Primal and Keto diets

I've been reading everywhere on the internet about ketosis and low carb diets. I'm adapting the primal lifestyle and would like to read some individual success stories instead of the stuff we all see in magazines and health sites.

Add me if primal

    Primal group is https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/37-primal-paleo-support-group.

Also, primal isn't keto and keto isn't primal. And low carb isn't keto.

Low carb is < 150 grams of carbs a day.

    Keto is < 50 carbs a day.

Primal puts no limits on carbs at all, but totally eliminates grains, legumes, white potatoes, cane sugar and high fructose corn syrup.

Thanks! Also, doing Keto right now with a primal maintenance focus. Primal with Keto now, pure primal later.

    Yup.
Primal also has a specific lifestyle/worldview focus that keto doesn't necessarily have.
Many keto-folk focus on trying to keep it "whole foods." Some don't. I exclude those same foods listed above. I'm about 80% whole foods myself. But those pork rinds and the sugar free coffee syrup...protein shakes on strength days. Not giving that up.

    So, I'm just plain Keto.
That said, I lost 102lb in 1.5 years.
    FWIW.

Nice! Congrats! I'm only doing Keto temporarily to lose weight as fast as possible, but meanwhile I'm also doing a lot of research for a lifestyle and primal seems to be what I'd be able to do. Mark Sisson mentions ketogenics in his book and has it on his "poster" so I know that, to some degree, Keto can also belong with primal.

I've read a lot of Sisson. The two lifestyles can fit quite nicely together.
There are vegan keto-folk. Vegetarian ketoers. And paleo, too. So basically anyway you can find to do high fat and low-carb generally works.
There are even more sub-groups within keto, macro-wise, ranging from 60% to higher in fat consumption.

You may have already checked out r/keto on Reddit, but if you haven't it's worth a look.

And I second the mention of the low-carb group above. There are a hodge-podge of different low-carb plans and combinations thereof used by the members. And a lot of keto-folk as well. It's active so there are people there to answer your questions pretty quickly.

Some people lose fast on keto, and some lose more slowly. That is true for other ways of eating, too, though and is dependant on genetics, age, and your personal metabolic history/profile. In the end, calories rule fat loss. Keto and primal are lifestyles, with a specific focus. But we also believe, like many others, that the "kind" and ratio of calories we consume are also important for many reasons. It doesn't hurt that many find the plan more sustainable for them than other plans. I could, and will, do keto forever and ever amen.

You CAN gain weight on keto, though. As a matter of fact, I'm working on shaving off a couple pounds I earned by overeating low-carb foods over the holidays and over acute life stressors. Naughty me. So if you eat too much keto-legal food, you're still going to face the issue caused by eating more fuel than you need, which is fat storage. The good news is that many also find keto macros more satisfying, feel full faster and for longer periods, and that it can kill cravings that cause them to overeat.

Hoping it works well for you.

Gratz for working towards weightloss. I will let you know no diet will make the loss faster. The lower carb can help you with water retention but it's all about making a deficit. If you can losing the weight in a diet you plan to continue can be good so that after the weight is off you don't fall out of it and regain.

Thanks for the lengthy reply! Lots of good stuff in there. First time I tried Keto I found out the hard way it doesn't always work. I took "fats to your liking" a little too serious. Ended up gaining weight. I'm actually down 10 pounds as of this morning and I know for a fact it's due to water retention as I have just started this diet and exercise plan. Though I can honestly say it's not hard at all, I've enjoyed every meal.

The hardest part is the lack of alcohol. I've temporarily completely cut it out of my life and it's a little sad after a long week without a glass or two of scotch, but I'll survive. I hope.

Haha yeah I know that nothing but true dedication melts the weight off, but I find ketosis toe diets to be the easiest and most enjoyable for me.
