My mother-in-law told me about cooking white rice a certain way and cooling it to reduce the calories by as much as 60%. I found her reference here:

Dr. Oz also references this tip for cutting the rice calories in half.

If Dr. Oz says it, it can safely be disregarded as fiction. He's one of the biggest woo peddlers out there.

LeanAndMean, i don't mean to sound stupid. but how are your friends CONSTANTLY force feeding you? Don't you have control over what you eat? my friends, and family for that matter, have NO control over what i eat. if i don't want it, then i am not eating it. they can beg and plead, but if i don't want it, it ain't going in my body

Not sure what kind of lifestyle involves being force-fed by friends, sounds kinda kinky to me. What horror stories have you heard about white rice? Like it hides under the bed, comes out after dark and eats your gainz?

Hey.. I usually eat out. Even though i exercise maximum control, they would find ways and means to get around it. For example, when we are eating together, They would all proceed to buy their food leaving me to reserve the table (In Singapore, places which you get to eat is usually extremely crowded (Foodcourt or Hawker Centers.etc)). But after they ordered, i would always find my portion with their order even though i told them not to get anything for me in the first place. Their reasons being that i have lost wayyyy too much weight and i look very pale and malnourished (Kindof true).

FYI, i came from a not-so-rich family last time and there was a period which i needed to survive on white bread alone for the month. Hence, i really detest wasting any food. Instead, i will just begrudgingly eat those food they brought.

If you tell them to not get you food, and they do, and you eat it, you are training them to not take you seriously.

    But, are you underweight now?

Hi, I'm a person that simply don't waste food (all Asians don't?). To them, I'm appearing to be like a picky anorexic eater. FYI, I'm 178cm tall and weight will be 65.2KGs.

    Yes.

Eat the rice. And a chicken. And some more rice. And some steak. Meanwhile, lift weights. Run. Repeat.

Brown rice is better because it contains the bran too. But white rice is not the evil you think it is..

There are no 2 billion obese Chinese people in the east right?? Rice is their main source of calories.

Are you sure brown rice is necessarily better? Really sure??

What? Cooking a food with another food and then making it cold does not reduce that calories? How would that be possible?

@AnvilHead I wonder why you consider it as spam, let alone garbage! Open your mind, Do the research, educate yourself, them open your mouth.

Else you will make a joke of yourself. I am trying to help here. I have been through lots of dietary mistakes in my life and I learnt the hard way.

If Scientific proof doesn't make you change your mind and get convinced, what does?? Broscience?

Why not answer my question instead of accusing me of spamming. What is the obesity rate in rural china compared to the USA and the UK? what is the main calorie source in china compared to the western world?

    DO the research mate.

People are fat from too many calories , mate. One individual food is not to blame.

    It's basic nutrition

Brown rice = rice with the bran around every grain hence the colour is brown.

The bran is rich in minerals and fibres. It slows the absorption thus makes you feeling full for longer, and the fibre allows for a smooth and easy defecation with no constipation. which means you don't get literally "full of crap" due to long intervals of going to the toilet ( like once every 3 or more days)

    Sounds like 99% woo woo
