I love seeing all your guys' dogs running! And I love, love, love the stories about the dog running the marathon, and the 8 year old too! Thanks for posting them, they are too cool. If I ever run a half marathon (one day maybe!) it may have to be that one. I can pair it with a work trip to Birmingham, and then afterwards visit my friends in Nashville before flying back home.

You can actually sign up for next years now...

@Stoshew71 - that is so crazy about the 8 yo setting a world record! wow! Do you think there could be issues for him later in life from running so much at such a young age? I mean I ran a bunch as a kid, all over the place as kids do, but not 13 miles at a pop.

There certainly is a risk for children to do a lot of long distances.

This trial has slightly messed with my mojo. I had to take yesterday as my rest day instead of Friday... which really isn't so bad except that I now have to run four days in a row... which really isn't so bad except the next three runs are 7, 12 and 10 miles respectively... which really isn't so bad except that it will make me whine and I don't want to show everyone that side of me.

    Sounds pretty bad... lol

I knocked out my 8 miles today, miserably. Another beautiful day made for another more difficult run. After running in 20-30 degree weather, jumping to 50+ (for all you non Fahrenheit folks: jumping from about -5 to 0 C, up to about 10C, if I did the math right in my head) instantly is more challenging than you might think. High of 68 for tomorrow. Thank goodness that's only a 5 mile run on my schedule...

ETA: 115.1 miles completed of my 145.1 mile goal--had to go back and check my last post!

I am pretty sure you will be lovin' every minute of it and not whining unless of course it is also VERY cold!

I sorta love the idea that you're a big ole' whiner-baby, lol.
@5BeautifulDays We are arriving at Disney the morning of 1/20 and will be there until the evening of 1/26. Our first sit-down meal down there is already reserved on Saturday night for T-REX. I've seen it there in the past, but I've never been there. It looks like a pretty cool restaurant, kind of like a Rainforest Cafe, but with dinosaurs?

Coincidentally, we will be spending Sunday at Animal Kingdom, as well. I have 10:45-11:45 FastPass scheduled for DINOSAUR, though I have a feeling we will probably be riding it multiple times, or at least they will be. We might end up all taking turns taking him, or something. He doesn't like "scary" rides, but I have a feeling when dinosaurs are involved, there will be an exception. I know Animal Kingdom will be his favorite park! We have dinner reserved in Epcot that evening. Sunday will be a princess day for me. My friend wanted to meet a few of them, so we decided to do the princess character meal in Norway. I will see more princesses on 2/21 than I have probably seen my entire life! haha

Ideally, I would love to do the Coast to Coast challenge for Disney and do both the Disneyland and Disney World Star Wars half marathons in one year. Maybe in 2018 or 2019 when they have their Star Wars additions completed. This will be my seventh trip to Disney World (fourth time as an over 18-year-old). I've never been to Disneyland, but I will get there one day! I've been to California five times - four times passing through airports on my way to and from Australia and one long weekend for a wedding in Laguna Beach. I would love to explore more of the state, one day!

Yes, T-Rex is just like Rainforest--and they have an area where you can dig for "fossils" that the kids really enjoy. I expect you all will be full-booked at Disney, but if you're free one other day, the "Jurassic Park" area at Universal is my son's favorite place in the entire world. Although the last time we were there he got "lost" (well--we lost him, he knew exactly where he was, lol) and we almost had a full-on man-hunt going on. Captain Oblivious was off telling people in the indoor exhibit everything they ever did or didn't want to know about dinosaurs. Sigh.

4 miles tonight, at a pretty quick pace for me. First chance I've had to get out since my monster run on Sunday. Got a PR on one of the Strava segments nearby: I'm the fastest fat person in my neighbourhood!

That took me to 76 miles for the month, reaching my stretch goal of 75. Suspect I'll end up around 85ish.

It is not the IT band like my GP said a few weeks ago. Remember when I said (like maybe a month ago) that I was pretty sure it was the Gluteus Medius and that I wasn't ruling out the TFL? Yup. Those are the ones. The PT did dry needle therapy and set one of the muscles to quivering like a high wire in tornado winds. But it feels better. He also said there is tendinopathy going on and so for the moment and in the near future, there is NO running. Period. I can bike, I can swim, I can walk as long as it doesn't hurt, but I can't run. I have another appointment on Monday and he says he should be able to give me a realistic time frame to be able to start running again. He said this is fixable.

With all that, my plans for my first half are out the window. I am dropping my expectations to no more than just wanting to finish within the 4 hour time limit. I have enough scheduled for the year that if I go ahead and take the time to heal now, I should not have any more issues with this particular problem in the future. I'm sad and disappointed but I realize I need to learn these lessons early so that I can keep moving forward. Just a lot slower than my normal hardheadedness wants to.

02/20 Snowman Stampede 10 mile race
04/24 Graffiti Run with grandkids - "Memaw's Mini Posse" is our team name
    04/30 Greenland Trail Race...8 mile

08/07 Tri for the Cure Sprint Triathlon

Thanks everyone. It was relatively warm, just below freezing for the pic.

I had a 1 hour run scheduled and posted in my tri club group to see if anyone was running tonight. I found out at the last minute that a group was doing a tempo run, leaving from the track. I bascially had enough time to change and rush out the door. Unfortunately by the time I got there, they were heading up the road. I pretty much decided to just forget it and go home (I didn't want to run myself and didn't know what route they were doing). As I walked back to the car, I spotted them going up the road on the other side of the track. I decided to cut over the track and catch up. I literally grabbed my jacket and was putting it on as I ran across the track. Luckily someone was wearing a blinky light so it was easy to keep them in sight. I was running hard.
At 2k, I finally up with (and it was a red light). They had been doing their warm and were ready to hit their tempo pace. Most of the group was faster and I didn't mind being behind, I was close enough to follow. I ended up with a friend. I pushed it most of the run, we slowed down at the last 2k.

I finished about a minute and a half off my 10k PR and it wasn't a race effort.

TL;DR - chasing your running group when you show up late makes for a faster run.

    +10k

I'm looking forward to my next race, a 5k next weekend. I'm anticipating a PR or pretty close to it.

A great piece about running in the winter in our local paper:

"Why I love running outside in the winter"

The lake in the photo is Lake Harriet, one of the lakes I ran around two nights ago.

expected January total - 245 to 251 miles

Today's notes: Speed work at the indoor 200 m track. The assignment was 1 x 800 at T; 3 x 2000 at T; 4 laps stride straights. Took a lap recovery between intervals, and needed a lap recovery after the last 2000 before going into the stride laps. Add 2 miles for the warmup and 2 miles for the cooldown, and it gets up over 9 miles of running without going outside. 2 miles of steady run in circles is boring, but it still beats using a dreadmill.

Tomorrow is a rest day. Saturday's assignment is 15 miles with hills, and Sunday I plan to run 14 miles for the 8-14 mile assignment. That should bring January in at around 253-254 miles, a bit over my expected total; this is due to going over the target weekly mileages by a bit, and those bits add up.
