Gym Travel Time

I always picked a gym between work and home so I could just turn in on my way. Once I'm home that's it. A few years ago I took my tax refund and bought a good home gym. No need to go anywhere other than my garage and no gym fees. Paid for itself in just over 2 years.0

10 minute drive to my main gym (I live in the suburbs in the US midwest, there are no businesses within walking distance), 30 second elevator ride to my work gym. A 15 minute drive would likely be my max.0

I have a gym in my home - so about 2 minutes down a flight of stairs - it ROCKS!0
-
When I don't run outside, I run in the fitness center in my apartment building. So it's a short elevator ride.
From past experience I know that if I have to drive more than 5-10 minutes, I'm going to struggle to work out consistently. I hate driving.0 -
I have all the weight equipment I require at home so there is no travel time.
I also belong to a rec center. It is about 15-20 minutes away (driving time.) I wouldn't go farther than that. Also, I wouldn't even go that far except that it's on my employer's campus so it's convenient for before or after work.0 -
How long does it take you to get to your gym/fitness center from your home? What is the max travel time you would do if you joined a fitness center?
do you work for a marketing company?
about a 15min drive from my home, but i normally go after work, so 5 min drive to the gym then 10min home give or take.
same sort of travel time for kick boxing/yoga gym.
Everything in my town is less than 20 mins from my house. any more than that and I would be less inclined to go.
LOL, no. Just thinking of joining a local gym and wondering if it's more than 10 minute drive will I actually go. Just curious what others do.0 -
Depends on traffic. If I go at 1 in the afternoon, five minutes. If I go at 8 am, during rush hour? It can take as long as half an hour to get there. Gotta love Bay Area traffic.
Oh, it's also on a direct route to places I shop at every week, so I trick myself.
Brain: "Let's go to the grocery store... oh, look! We're right next to the pool! Good thing we put our swim bag in the car."
Body: "Dude, you suck. Let's go to Burrito Loco instead."
Brain: "It's an extra block to Burrito Loco and the pool is right here next to the grocery store."
So far, my brain wins most of the time.0 -
I have a home gym and a YMCA membership. The older one is 3 miles away and 8 minutes by car, the new one is 6 miles away and 12 minutes by car. I only go to the new one because it has a fancy pool for young kids (mine are 2, 3, and 5)0
-
I walk 20 - 30 min (depending on traffic) to get to mine, but it's in the same building as my office so it's convenient as I go directly to work after (or go to the gym at lunch, or right after work.)
A ten-minute drive definitely wouldn't phase me, but I live in a fairly large, spread-out city so I can end up driving up to an hour to get places sometimes and ten minutes seems like it's just around the corner in comparison.0 -
I was thinking about asking this! My drive is 5-10 min depending on traffic. I prob wouldn't want to do more than 15, so it's a good thing this little studio is in my town. The next closest is about 1/2 Hr away.0
-
10 min drive usually workout around 4am so I will never walk or bike to the gym at those hours.0
-
My gym is only three miles and one traffic light away, and this is one of the reasons I picked it over the nicer one further away. (The main reason was that it is less crowded.)0
-
15 min drive to the gym and a 30-40 min drive to the yoga studio0
-
I have a 15 min drive to the gym - I have to hop on the highway so walking isnt an option. I dont really have a closer option.0
-
From work to the gym, about 12-30 minutes depending on rush hour.
From gym to home, 7-10 minutes.0 -
I live in a small town with no gym or fitness center so there would be a 40-60 minute drive to get to one.
Honestly, I don't know if I would use one even if it was right down the street. I appreciate doing my exercise without any commute time, wearing whatever, not dealing with other people and not spending money.

Like others, mine is on my way home from work. So about 20 mins. from work, then another 10 mins home. I go on the weekends, too, so that's important. They opened a gym in the business park where my office is and I thought about joining that one, but it would be too far to go (30 minutes) on the weekends.0

about a ten minute bus ride not including walking to/from bus stops. takes me about 50 minutes to walk the whole way.0
-
about 25 mins for me. There is an Anytime Fitness closer, but I like the Gym I belong to, it has all the amenities like steam room, Sauna, Heated Pool and big hot tub.0
-
15-20 each way. Used to be 30. I had a 2 minute drive once but hated the gym. All depends what you want0
-
20 minutes to my home gym (Anytime Fitness)
If I go to the club by where I work it is 45 minutes.
There a 4 Anytime Fitness Centers between my house and work to choose from.0 -
About 60 seconds...to walk from the inside of the house to the garage. Why pay a gym membership fee when I have a treadmill, a balance ball, resistance bands, free weights, workout dvds, a stepper, and a yoga mat all in the comfort of home?0
-
No traffic, 18 minutes. Moderate traffic 21 minutes. Congested traffic 35-45 minutes! But its the closest real gym to me. The only other thing in our area is the Y and its $84 a month, VS my PF membership , which is $200
-
8/10 of a mile, so about a 12-minute walk.
I must admit that I am wimping out this winter and driving most of the time. It takes about 5 minutes, depending on the lights.0 -
30 second of walk....my box is just across the street from my work0
-
My gym is about 5 minutes away from where I live, so no biggie.0
-
The last time I joined a fitness club I contracted a fungal infestation. No way no how no more for me. My treadmill is in my house, my free weights, floor, big ball and stretchy tubes are as well.0
-
I use the gym at my apartment building, so about 3 min walk. I also work out in my home, since I prefer dance/Pilates for aerobic exercise. Once a week I attend a class with my partner--it's a 12 min drive.0
-
It takes me about 30 seconds to walk downstairs.
My husband and I had a gym membership at a lovely gym/swimming pool. Best one in town. When we got that membership, we lived about a 10 min drive, each way, from the gym. Then we moved, and it's about a half-hour drive, each way, now. We kept going now and then until the membership ran out, and then decided it would be less expensive and a whole lot more convenient to set up a gym in our basement.
