After taking a rest day yesterday (well, a 20 mile ride in a 26mph pace line with my triathlon group wasn't exactly rest, but I digress) I got out for a good run today with a neighbor. Although he felt a bit more comfortable on his second 10 mile run, I couldn't twist his arm into doing a half marathon next weekend, and we'll be sticking with the 15K race instead. Planning to do a more reasonably paced long bike ride tomorrow morning, but may go for a long 15-20 miler tomorrow night as I haven't done anything over 12 miles since my marathon a month ago.

2/1 - 4 miles (up/down part of Park City mountain through 2 feet of powder)
    2/2 - 5.5 miles
    2/3 - 1 miles (pre lifting warmup)
    2/4 - 10 miles (7 mile tempo run + 3 recovery)
    2/5 - 5 miles
    2/6 - 10 miles
    2/8 - 9 miles
    2/9 - 12 miles (w. 3x15 min @ 7:15/mile pace w. 90 sec recovery)
    2/10 - 5 miles
    2/11 - 12 miles (8 miles speedwork + 4 mile late recovery run)
    2/12 - 1 mile (pre lifting warmup)
    2/13 - 10 miles

    Total: 84.5 miles
    Goal: 180 miles
    Remaining: 95.5 miles

    Upcoming Races:
    15K - Gasparilla - Feb 20
    Half Ironman - Florida 70.3 - Apr 10
    Marathon - Pittsburgh - May 1
    Half Ironman - Augusta 70.3 - Sep 25
Marathon - Chicago - Oct 9 (if accepted)
    Ironman - Florida - Nov 5

@elise4270 - Got mine in the mail today. Thanks!

@mobycarp - Not sure how you survived 22 miles on an indoor 200m track. I'd go nuts, and my IT band would be numb from all of the one-sided turns.

@Elise4270 A throbbing and hot knee is probably NOT a sign that everything is alright. So sorry to hear that!

@HonuNui You always post the most fascinating photos! That turtle looks really cool :-)

@runner_girl83 Congrats on your 10k! I hope the knee won't be sore for too long. Enjoy your nice valentines present ;-)

@skippygirlsmom Sounds like a really nice 5k, glad that the knee help up!

@mobycarp So you ran one hundred seventy-seven times around that lap?! Wow, that's dedication to your training. I would have gone insane after a fraction of that.

@Ohhim yea! Glad to hear it made it.

@_nikkiwolf_ its calmed down this morning. I am a hyperchondriac (side effect of chronic pain). I think it was irritated by the brace. Fingers crossed for a run today.

Late to the party here but would like to join - if I may!

The goals for Feb are a stretch for me now but would have been modest a month ago. I intend to get back to running 3 days a week by the end of February to a revised HM training plan of running 4 days a week.

Back story: Mycroplasma pneumonia diagnosed this past Friday - had been struggling to keep on pace (no pun intended) with my Chester (UK) HM (in mid-May) training plan. It was a bump up to running 5 days a week which I'd been very excited about.

Feeling nervous about it in general - am focused on recuperating without a relapse. All/any advice welcome!

Another 2 miles today, but I wasn't feeling it at at all today, my knees felt stiff, and my calves were tight, and I didn't enjoy it at all. For the first time since starting this I actually felt like giving up and walking, but I didn't. Running Club tomorrow night, hopefully I'll feel more enthusiastic by then.

Haven't posted in a while but I've been reading the thread during my breaks at work. Couldn't begin to reply to what I've read though!

Running-wise I've had an easier couple of weeks after my PB in the 10km race at the end of January brought on a little calf niggle I am prone to. So, I'm looking forward to getting back out there this week when I'm off work, including getting in my long-run tomorrow that I haven't been able to do this weekend due to a boyfriend-imposed running ban. My first 7 miler in over a year! Can't wait

    February running challenge

    2nd February - 40 mins cross-train
    4th February - 3.30 miles
    5th February - 35 mins cross-train
    8th February - 3.20 miles
    10th February - 3.14 miles (dreadmill)
    11th February - 3.26 miles
12-14th February - away (boyfriend banned me from taking my running shoes!)

    MTD - 12.90/50miles

    Upcoming races:
    27th Feb - Richmond Park 10km
    19th Mar - Spring Riverside 10km
3rd Apr - Paddock Wood Half Marathon
8th May - Run Hackney Half Marathon

2/4: 8.2 miles (am), 6 miles (pm) with the Thursday crew
    2/5: Rest day (hallelujah!)
2/6: 9.5 miles with the Saturday crew
    2/7: 18 miles LR

    2/12: Rest day!
2/13: 14 miles with Saturday crew
    2/14: 7 miles

Treadmill'd it today. Temps at noon were 14*, "feels like" temp of a balmy 0, and I just don't have gear suited for that kind of temperature. Jammed to the Hamilton soundtrack, mouthing along to all the lyrics despite the gym being totally full of people :p Did a progression run, from starting at 7.0 mph for the first mile, then working up to a half mile at 8.5 mph. Between the Hamilton tunes and kicking a** at all my progression paces, it was a killer workout, and dare I say it... even fun?? This kind of run used to leave me totally exhausted, so it's cool to feel energized instead.

Triple on Monday to get ahead of the curve.
10pm unplanned post dinner and wine trot on the Champs-Elysees, followed by a couple of 6am runs Weds + Thurs.
Uneventful, the parks were closed, so just took in a few sights on don't get lost route past the Place de la Concorde, du Lourve and Place de la Bastille and back along the Seine.

Was on drivers duty on Saturday for the Donadea 50k, so used this opportunity to get my long run in.
Planned to do 7-8 steady laps (5k per lap), managed 8 pretty consistently [22:12-21:24-21:30-21:24-21:14-21:17-21:12-21:39] for a just shy of 25 miles at sub 7 pace.

Hopefully add a little speed back in this week - niggle dependent.

    Total: 62.34 miles

    Recap:
Today’s run was a lovely, easy 9 miles! I really didn’t feel like running this morning and procrastinated for about an hour before getting out the door, so I got a little snow for the last 3 miles. It was nice though because at least the wind had died down a little so the snow didn’t slow me down at all- final 2 miles were at 8:18 and 8:06 pace so I had a nice strong finish! A balmy 2 degrees F and 17 mph winds; gotta love winter running in Chicago... -_-

It felt like -37c today (-34f) and bloody hell there was no way I was heading out. So me and the treadmill got to rolling. It was a good run, I do really well when I can keep cool and so it seems I can push a little harder when I'm on the treadmill.

    @dominichoran wow sounds...I can't even imagine :)

    @Qwik_Dry Welcome!

@HonuNui another wow scenario, thanks for the pic :)

@_nikkiwolf_ now that sounds more like what I'd get, lol. Nice perseverance!!

@_nikkiwolf_ - oh my gosh - you are amazing to even try to go back out in that weather. Hail that stings through jacket! Imagine if it hit you on the face - it would look like you got beat up.
    @Calli1616 - lol hufflepug. :smile:
@ohhim - 26 mph bike ride! WOW, that is the A group in my bike club. We've got A-- 24+, B+ -- 22-24, B -- 20-22 and B-Nice 18-20. I'm in the B-Nice group. I've only been biking about 16 months and can probably move up to B in a few months. But A... I don't think so. Seminole Cyclists is my bike club ... if you ever make it to north Orlando. You can ride with those really fast guys. The weird thing is some of them don't even seem in shape... I don't get it.
@dominichoran - your mileage.... wow. That sounds like a fun run!

Need to figure out next HM - but waiting for the Nike tour to be announced. Want that Tiffany Nike necklace. Plus not sure about summer plans yet. Planning on trip to Europe but also am going to be AP Reader in KC for 10 days.

Long run tomorrow ...day off of school. Then Tuesday going to UF for programming competition with 9 students - for a very long day 7am-8pm, so going to run early that day to avoid going insane on bus 5 hours as a chaperone. Kids are amazing, so no problem with them, just sitting on a bus.

    Feb 1 - 4.27
    Feb 2- repairing/recovery day.
    Feb 3 - Strength training 4.5 miles
    Feb 4 - rest
    Feb 5 - Strength training
    Feb 6 - 34 mile bike ride
    Feb 7 - 13.1 HM - New PR 2:18:57!!!
    Feb 8 - 3.05 mile recovery run.
    Feb 9 - 1 hour spinning class
    Feb 10 - Strength training
    Feb 11 - 6 miles
    Feb 12 - recovery day
    Feb 13 - 34 mile bike ride
    Feb 14 - 36 mile bike ride

On the 8th there was an incident at out local dog park, that's part of the park I run. I really stewed about going today. Thought of buying knuckles, almost hit "buy" on amazon. Then found a police telescoping baton, and text DH to pick it up while he's out of town. Of course, as I ran by the dog park there were suspicious events/persons. One woman was there, and there was this vehicle just sitting there, waiting. I stopped, pretended to stretch, eyed the person, the woman was walking to her vehicle, so I walked to her and chatted... The vehicle left. She is ex military and was concerned for me, which is why she started over. Any how, I'll (hopefully) get a baton and keep an eye out, especially now that I've seen that vehicle.

I know I'm just spinning here, but I thought about getting a bb pistol and making sure is somewhat apparent in my waistband. I've heard pepper spray is a joke. I'm not scared to be out there, I just don't wanna be stupid/oblivious about it. Next week I should have a few extra days off and plan to run at a park further away, for training purposes. Also give me time to think rationally.

    1---6.10
    2---rest
    3---6.25
    4---6.26
    5---not enough rest day

@Elise4270 Oh man! Stay safe! Must have been a violent incident! I'd stay away from there for a few days at least. Luckily my town's biggest crime problem is bike theft, so running is pretty darn safe!

I will. It was assault and robbery, (income tax time). Unfortunately, we have a relatively high crime rate. They patrol out there on the trails and I've seen officers parked in hidy holes on the road. Usually just kids smoking pot.

    February Running Totals (miles)
    [1/31 – 14.01 easy with hills]
    2/1 – 6.08 easy + 4 strides
2/2 – 9.73 warm up, speed work, cool down
    2/3 – 6.30 group run
    2/4 – 11.04 long speed work
    2/5 – scheduled rest day
    2/6 – 15.00 long speed work
Weekly total 62.16 vs. target 62

    2/7 – 11.35 easy 1.5 hour
    2/8 – 5.96 easy + 4 strides
2/9 – 11.08 warm up, speed work, cool down
    2/10 – 6.01 easy
2/11 – 11.75 warm up, speed work, cool down
    2/12 – scheduled rest day
    2/13 – 22 on inside track
Weekly total 68.15 vs. target 68

    2/14 – 12.64 easy 100 minutes

February total to date – 128.94

Goal – 62 or 68 miles per week, per training plan
Expected February total - 262 to 265 miles

Today's notes – Better weather today; I set out to run at 9° F (-13° C) and sunshine with wind not being much of a factor. The training assignment was 100 minutes easy. By mile 8 I realized that absent a training assignment, I would have declared victory at 10 miles. But I'm not a 10 minute miler, so I persevered along my planned route. Ended up watching my watch closely as I ran past my driveway and stopping it as soon as I saw 1:40 elapsed time. Total run, 1:40:03 for 12.64 miles, average pace 7:55 per mile. Started out feeling really good, but the last 2 to 3 miles were a mental challenge.

Yes, it was a little cold. Yes, the valve on my water bottle froze and I had to unscrew the cap to chase the last gel. Yes, my electrolyte drink turned to slush before the end of the run. Yes, I ran hills after yesterday's totally flat (track) long run. But mostly, I was running on tired legs after yesterday's 22 miles. I think that's what the training plan intends, and this was an exercise in mental toughness more than in physical toughness.

@_nikkiwolf_ - Yes, running 177 laps of a 200 meter track yesterday was a mental challenge. Running 100 minutes outside today was a different sort of mental challenge. I played various mind games both days in dealing with the challenges, but part of it is just knowing what I want and what I need to do to get it. It's a lot of miles to get to Boston.

    Upcoming races:
March 12, 2016 Johnny's Runnin' of the Green 5 mile (Rochester, NY)
March 26, 2016 Spring Forward Distance Run 15K (Mendon, NY)
April 18, 2016 Boston Marathon (Hopkinton, MA)
