However now that I think of it, women complain about men having it so much easier than they do. So if this post is insulting, does it mean women can get away with the same stuff? So in essence, you have no reason to complain...ever. I don't think the OP realized this, but she just ended the battle between the sexes. You deserve a Nobel Peace Prize or very large statue somewhere.

There are very few things on the list which actually require one to be male or female. So yes, women can "get away" with most of the things on there. However, posting the list did not 'end the battle of the sexes' - rather, it spread the stereotypes even more. Take a look at what you just said. You seem to assume that it's dramatic and unbelievable to say that women can not spend several thousand pounds on what they wear for their wedding, or not bother to shave below the neck. It's so deeply ingrained in you, that you just presented that idea as ludicrous. Can you not see how narrow-minded and ignorant that is?

Probably not, if you think your post wasn't self-contradictory.

Look at what persistent belief in these stereotypes has done to the world. Female politicians are still judged more on their clothes than their policies, and lists like this, which paint women as concerned only with clothing and appearances, don't help.

Let's skip right over the bull**** like women not knowing about tanks, and get straight to the serious part.

I spent my last weekend campaigning against the idea that women are raped because of what they choose to wear. There were so many stories, from everyone involved. Women who, for years, are told that they only important thing about them is their looks - like the list says, over and over, spending an inordinate amount of time caring about appearances, being in a hetero-normative relationship being the most important thing in their lives, fearing growing old, having to wear make-up - and then, after being attacked, being told "this is because of how you looked". Young girls, some of them younger than twenty, being pushed both ways by these awful mixed messages, being told that, to be feminine, the have to be pretty, but, if they are pretty, and they're raped, it's their fault, for being women.

(It's not true, btw; most women are raped in their own homes, by their partners. 44% of rape victims are children. I assure you, it's not because of what the're wearing.).

Repeating these fake and sexist ideas, that this is what women care about, and men don't, is harmful. Ideas like, women have to shave to be womanly, or have to want to get married, or have to wear make-up, or can't know about trucks. That kind of ignorance goes beyond a joke when people think it's true - like the person I quoted, who, as I pointed out, thought it would be oh-so-shocking to go "women can do that stuff too". Of course they can. It's only sexist bull**** like this being spouted that makes them think they can't, that they have to be some other way You say "it's just a joke!", but that's absolutely no excuse for repeating stuff like this. And then you've got people saying things like "it's so true!", or even calling people names for daring to disagree? What. the. ****? O_O

Funny because whenever former PM Thatcher is talked about, its her polices that are mentioned, not her clothes. But I'm guessing you probably were not taught about how great a women she was. You really need to relax. I really feel sorry for you that you are so filled with angst that you cannot for one moment laugh at this post's illustration of stereotypes. You know that there are differences between the sexes and it doesn't make one better than the other. We are all different and to push your one sided views on people takes away the beauty and diversity that make men and women so unique. No one is saying women are inferior.

If you want to end the oppression of women, i would start in your back yard and ask your government to help the muslim women that are pouring into the UK. I wouldn't be spending so much energy busting a person's chops over a very funny post. You may feel better about yourself, but in the end you really took a stand for a molehill.

What I don't understand is how self-centered people are to read a thread, find it not to their liking, and have to post why they didn't like it. I like some threads, I don't like others. The ones I don't like I just move on. Wonderful thing about opinions, they're like a**holes, everyone has one, I just don't show mine all the time

There was some head scratchers in there. Female politicians judged by what they wear? I never really heard anyone judge any politician man or woman on what the wear. Pretty much think they are all, male and female, equally idiots ruining everything daily. And the whole rape thing cause of what the woman was wearing is another one. That's a new one. Never really heard that before. And you were actually campaigning last weekend against it? Has a rapist actually used that as an excuse? I'm being serious in a totally why so serious thread. I have never heard a rapist, accused rapist, or someone around watching the news seeing a picture of a woman raped and said, "she got raped cause of what she was wearing".

But the list is wrong anyways. I have 3 pair of shoes and 2 sandals and I know nothing about tanks.

These are not differences between the sexes. These are stereotypes. Women are not biologically pre-determined to wear make-up, or spend thousands on wedding dresses, or obsess over getting old. Those are cultural ideas, not differences between individuals.

I think I'm just going to bow out of this conversation. It's not heading anywhere nice. To the OP, thought it was funny. Not offended. To the people that are, sorry I don't see your side of the argument but it's no biggie to me.

Yes. Rape victims are frequently asked for their sexual history, and an inordinate amount of attention is paid to their clothes. You're very lucky to be so far removed from that world.

it's true, there was only one thing that was true on there, and it was the tux thing...if you want a dress it is gonna cost you!

and I completely agree with you B.

I think it is important to let other posters reply, not everyone is going to love your posts OP, so I think it is you that needs to get over yourself. Don't call someone selfish just because she is trying to stamp out stereotypes, which in fact DOES need to be done. gender construction is a huge issue and anyone that is willing to talk against the awful battering ram that it is I would call brave and awesome! kudos to you B

Right and each culture has its unique things that make them interesting. You know whats so great about western civilization?

As a female, you wont be beaten or sold because you didn't comply with societal norms. You have a choice to be who you are and find someone that respects you for who you are. This very culture that you paint as evil, is the very same one that is more tolerant than any other on the planet. You think you have it rough, go to certain parts of Africa and ask them which is worse: genital mutilation or wearing makeup

    Why Men Have it Easier:

When they voice a concern or complaint or opinion about something, it isn't devalued, they aren't told they are *****ing or whining.

When someone doesn't like what they have to say, they don't say 'get the sand out of your foreskin' but, 'get the sand out of your vagina', referencing that women's genitalia just makes you weaker, and more prone to complaining!

It was a joke. And to take it as anything other than that is ridiculous. There were plenty of people who commented that they thought it was insulting. I didn't reply. To say I further oppressed women because of a joke is over the top. Don't assume to know anything about me or my beliefs because of a harmless post. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I'm not interested in making anyone change their mind, least of all here. I have never felt the need to try to force feed my beliefs and opinions down someone's throat, especially without even knowing them or what their intentions were. When I read it, I thought the absurdity of it all was hilarious, I thought it was outdated and extremely sexist and funny. So I decided to share it. Next time you decide to go off on a diatribe, think of the context first this is the Chit-chat, fun and games board.

Stereotypes are funny for a reason. Signed the asian.

Did I ever tell you I was entered into a demolition derby? They rejected my entry based on I was asian so my crashing a car gave me an unfair advantage.

I'm not saying that these things at times can't be funny, it is all contextual. and no one here said anything about your beliefs, but actions do enhance stereotypes. Rappers dropping the N bomb reinforces racism. Girls calling each other *****y ****s, or sandy vaginas...reinforces sexism. Saying that men have it easier because they don't have to shave below the neck is sexist! I have little hairs on my toes that my bf loves! I can open my own jars.

Women are treated like **** globally.

An excellent joke would be, women have it easier!

Men can have sand in their vaginas too. It's a saying that is synonymous to "lighten up."
