Oh dear, I locked myself out tonight and had to wait for my OH to get home and let me in, by which time it was too late to get to Running Club. I am so disappointed, however rather than waste the evening entirely I decided to go for a little run on my own. 2.22 miles in total, and I was really pleased with myself as I pretty much jogged most of it with only a couple of quick stops to sip water and blow my nose (why does it always run while I run?). I am definitely seeing improvement each time I go out. A little bit further without stopping, and a little bit faster. Slowly building it up.

Overview:
Running plan called for 5 easy miles today. But seeing as how I can barely drag myself out of bed to use the restroom, I'm taking the day off instead haha. Hopefully I'll feel up to an easy run tomorrow, but I'm trying to accept/be ok with the reality that I probably won't

@moyer566 hope you get well soon!
@ceciliaslater fingers crossed for that tendon...
@sleepigrl dont sweat it, you're getting in a good number of runs. Maybe don't worry about the distance too much, and just try to get out as much as you can? Like @ceciliaslater said, maybe adjust your pace. The best thing I did for increasing my distance was forcing myself to slow down.
On that note, I got in 8.4 miles tonight at a very slow pace. I was really strict with myself about keeping the pace down, backing off when I noticed it creeping up. I've planned out my training for my first half on May 15th, and it's time to start taking the stuff I've read about LSRs and recovery runs seriously. I don't want to keep pushing the pace on every run and either injure myself, or fail to get in enough miles or time on my feet. It's a bit weird that the willpower problem has now flipped from "get up and run, you fat b*****d!" to "slow down, dumbass!"0 -

This looks like my runs too. Just gotta keep plugging away and I know from experience it'll get better. I also know slowing down helps a lot even if you feel like you're already a turtle running through peanut butter!0 -

Today's notes – 52° when I set out at 6 PM meant I could run in shorts and a tee shirt, in early March. But I still needed to wear a reflective harness and lights, because it's still Daylight Wasting Time. In a couple of weeks, I'll be able to run 8 miles at 6 PM in daylight.

Just joining this group. I've been running for about 3 years now. I'm 42 and a mother of 4 (17,17,18,21). I did my first 10k and 1/2 marathon last year and training for my 2nd 1/2 marathon which is in April. Looking for a much better experience this go around (didn't train for the last one)
Runs:
3/6 - 3 miles (tough run after a weekend of skiing)
3/7 - 3 miles (beautiful evening for a run)
Upcoming Races;
4/26 - Kings Mountain Half Marathon (oh how I dread those hills)

@ddmom0811 Thanks for the info. It's funny you mention the different muscles because I experienced that tonight. Had to head into work for a bit and the legs felt fine on the bike. They actually felt loosened up afterwards compared to how they were feeling before I rode in. Hoping to get out early tomorrow before the winds pick up on the lake to get some decent miles in.0

Was initially planning on doing my long distance run today as a single run, but I ended up needing to take my bike in for a tune-up around the time of a spring training game. As a result, I ended up riding to my mechanic, running 4 miles to a spring training ballgame, running back 4 miles to retrieve it after the game, and then got in another 10 miles after a long post-tune up ride. I may try a 20 miler on Thursday though as I don't have any baseball on the agenda and I'm planning a running rest day on Wednesday.

@sleepigrl and others who are running short runs and finding them a struggle... Running is hard! Even for short distances when you start out. Then one day it isn't so hard and then it actually feels kind of good and then an amazing thing happens and you just feel like you can run forever. Somewhere in the middle of it all you realize you can't wait to get out for a run, you need to go for a run and yep... you are addicted. By then your distances are getting a bit longer and your times may even be improving. Just take it slow (slow pace and slowly adding more distance) and know it is a process for your body and mind to adjust to it. All of us have been where you are now and you just have to keep at it.
I didn't think I was going to get a run in today between work and the thunder and lightening storms. Ended up going late. It was cold and windy with just a few sprinkles but I think that just made me run faster. My legs were tired when I started but felt better as I got going and ended up running a pretty nice 6 mile tempo run. Ran even more at agility class since only 2 of us showed up so we got in lots of course runs. Hobbes the Vizsla is exhausted and sound asleep now! We will see how my legs feel tomorrow. Hoping for just a nice easy run in the morning and strength training in the evening.

March Goal - 50km walking
March 8 - 6.7km
March total - 25km
25km to go
I'll be slowing down a bit now because I've been doing most of my walking at night once hubs and bubs are I bed and from tomorrow night I'm back to working nightfill. No doubt I'll be burning more calories working for 3-4 hours then I have been walking for 1 hour but damn, walking is much nicer then working.
Map my walk says I burnt 327 cals from tonight's walk but my fitness pal says only 270. I'm sure they're both wrong but how can they be so different? What's anyone's thoughts?

Hi All -
I can't believe it is already the 7th and I have barely had time to catch up here and now there are 21 pages! I am reading through but I am not going to go back and comment on everything at this point.
Welcome to everyone - Newbies and all the returning friends from previous challenges!
I got a LSR in on Saturday. Wanted to go for 15 but only managed 12 and my legs were dead with that. I am starting to think I need to rethink my eating and calories overall and have started to do some reading on the subject. I found this interesting:
http://www.mapmyrun.com/blog/the-ultimate-guide-to-weight-management-for-runners-5147/?utm_source=silverpop&utm_medium=email&utm_content=weight_button&utm_campaign=newsletter&spMailingID=50810682&spUserID=MTYwMjQ5NTI5MTkzS0&spJobID=880039810&spReportId=ODgwMDM5ODEwS0
If you have some recommended reading on this topic let me know.
I don't have any suggested readings. But I do wonder about this dynamic, adding muscle and losing fat. I believe Matt Fitzgerald is credible. I just hate to believe that I can't do both. Muscle recovery still happens at a deficit, right? But then again, I can't seem to lose any weight either. I just keep changing shape at the same weight. I'm positive, most days I'm at a deficit. I admittedly just skimmed the article. I may read over it again.
Anyone else have any ideas/insight on the matter?
@shanaber what did you decide on your calorie goal?0 -

I'd love to join - I used to be an avid runner and stopped, so am trying to get back into it. My target for the month is 30 miles for this month. I have done 2 so far and will get my next run in tonight. Finding it difficult to stay consistent at the moment with exercise and eating in general.0

On a doc-recommended break from running, so I walked while Katie tried different machines. She wasn't feeling it this morning, so I only went half a mile. In that ... HALF.a.mile. ... I texted, Facebooked, checked MFP, my work email, stared blindly out the window, thought about breakfast, glanced incredulously at the number of miles - er, fraction of a mile - I had gone, did my taxes ...
I'm counting it, though, lol ... I'll want that half a mile at the end of the month after a week off. Have a happy day, y'all ...
