It's easier to meet calorie goals by eating low carb food and you really dont need that many carbs to sustain your energy.

Easier for some, not for all. How people respond to food is very individual. I had potatoes for lunch today and could not have dinner 6 hours later because I was still too full. Carbs are some of the most filling foods for me.

I just finished a 35 mile ride...I'm eating a peanut butter and cherry preserves sandwich with some whey mixed with chocolate milk, a big dill pickle and a banana...go carbs!

Also, I meet my calorie goal easily eating carbs....there's lots of very good and nutritious carbs out there.

Probably because carbs are what people overdo the most, so cutting back on them has a considerable impact for a lot of people.

I think that is part of the problem. A big part. Many of us ate too many carbs, got fat and developed insulin resistance (like PCOS, prediabetes, T2D, NAFLAD, or possibly even Alzheimers). I HIGHLY doubt it was carbs like veggies and fruit that caused the problem, but sugars, sugary drinks and highly processed foods. But once you have IR, all carbs become an issue so we benefit from cutting back on all carbs (starting with sugars and highly processed foods).

Since those with IR tend to lose better with a low carb diet, and cose to half of North American have some sort of IR, it makes sense that you would see low carb diets rising in poplarity. They can be a good tool for regaining health and losing weight (while eating at a caloric deficit of course).

So many people seem to go "low-carb" when they diet and rave about its results. I thought it came down to calories in vs. out. So why go low-carb if you're tracking calories on MFP? I don't see the point of cutting out all carbs if they're something your body craves for energy. Is there proof that a low-carb diet makes you lose more weight than a carb-included diet if the daily calorie intakes are the same?

@ebrass73 there is nothing magical about going low-carb unless you are eating 'processed' carbs. Our bodies do not crave carbs for energy. Setting on the table is a container of HK Anderson Peanut Butter Filled Pretzel Nuggets that are not calling me. Cravings seem to come from eating incorrect macros messing up our hormone Insulin level. If Insulin levels are high fat does not seem to want to come off even if we only at 500 calories daily until death which certainly would come.

Watch only the first three minutes to hear what Dr. Fung (Canada) states why we can not lose and maintain just by cutting calories short/long term.

I do eat low carb but it is for pain manage because it works so well at managing my pain. A side effect has been it resolved my 40 years of serious IBS and yes I am down to 200 from 250 for the first time in 22 years and have maintained at 200 for a year eating 2500+ calories daily. But that is not why I eat low carb and will will continue to do as long as it manages my arthritis pain. My food options taste so great and I have no cravings for carbs anymore.

    Best of success.

Your body needs carbs for energy.

You don't necessarily have to eat them though.

Exactly you can survive without carbs because protein and fat will convert to the same energy source now saying that carbs will make you Thrive..

My muscles look really flat when I do Low carb for 6 weeks so I cycle carbs three weeks low then take a week off but still stay under 150 grams a day for cutting
