Vegetable and fruit diet for one week?

Hey guys,
I'm 6'1" ,currently at 85 kg.Planning to start a vegetable and fruit only diet for a week.I'll still be going to the gym daily and working out hard.Will the calories be enough? Or should I eat more? Just for a week!

No protein? No fats? How many calories can you even eat in only fruits and veggies? I'd be shocked if you have the energy to go to the gym. Sounds awful.0

When you say "vegetable" are you including protein-rich vegetables such as legumes? Not a lot of point in "going to the gym daily and working out hard" if you're not going to get enough protein.
Also, why? What are you trying to accomplish by doing this? Something you do for just one week is really pretty irrelevant in terms of achieving your goals.0 -

What is the point of working out if you wont be eating proteins? Your body needs protein more than it needs carbs from fruit.

Just veggies and fruit for a week? Why? You can eat what you like within your calorie range and still lose weight. You should be including fat and protein in your diet, especially if you are planning difficult work outs. You will likely burn out fast on just fruits and veggies. Also, you may have to check your pants every time you sneeze.0

The calories from fruits and vegetables will be enough if you eat enough to get to your calorie goal. You'll probably have to consume more food to get that many calories. I would think you will lack adequate amounts of protein and fats that week.
Is there any good reason to do this for a week?1 -
A couple things..........the number of calories is going to depend upon how many servings and what your portions are.
Men should start at a minimum of 1500. But, because you are tall, young and active......you should eat more.
The second thing - your body needs protein & dietary fat. It's going to be extremely difficult getting a fair amount of these macros by just eating fruits & veggies. Add lean meats, fish, dairy, eggs for protein. Olive oil, nuts, nut butters, avocado for healthy fats.0 -
you need to be consuming organic whole wheat carbs for energy and legumes. this can be done (fruit & veggies), as people go on juicing diets often, but the difference with juicing is you get a lot more nutrients in a smaller package. something like this is not recommended for beginners and after the week you will gain the weight back. i'm sure you know the difference between a "lifestyle change" and "diet". i would never recommend something like a juice cleanse for weight loss alone. good luck!0

Avocado would provide fat and soya beans would provide protein but boy you'll need to eat a lot of them and I'm pretty sure you'd be sick of the sight of them by the end of the week.0

You can get protein from all types of beans, not just soy beans.0 -

Like others have said, might be hard to get enough calories (if you mean non-starchy veg like broccoli and asparagus and not legumes or potatoes), might be seriously lacking in fat (include avocados, at least, and think about nuts or cooking the veg with some oil), and likely to be way short on protein (especially since it's easier to get the calories in with fruit).
Doesn't sound balanced or healthy, but for just a week not a big thing, although I wouldn't recommend it.0 -
Damn, a guy can't plan to eat fruits and veggies for ONE WEEK without people hyperventilating? So what if he calls it a cleanse? He's going to be perfectly fine and probably feel amazing. And if he's exercising as usual and feels like he doesn't have enough energy, all he has to do is just eat more fruits (bananas, mangoes etc would do the job) and also more of the starchy veggies.2

@Traveler120 the problem is that people use cleanses and detoxes (or call them that) for a 'quick fix' 'metabolic booster' or some other rubbish - Not necessary. In this case he's not going to get enough protein (unless legumes are a part of vegetables), or fats (unless eating high fat foods). He may get some energy from fruit sugars and carbs but they can be rather temporary.0 -
If OP does it right he'll have plenty of protein. Bean sprouts, broccoli, asparagus, peas, lentils, edamame, etc. Soybeans have 28 grams of protein per cup.0

A lot of people swear by a vegan fruit/veggie plant based diet, but it has to be done properly especially with you being active in the gym. Check out Dr. McDougall Starch Solution and Dr. Neal D. Barnard both support plant based diets.0

People on those plans aren't just eating fruits and vegetables though. They're also eating grains and legumes (it's unclear if OP is planning on including beans during this week). A plant-based diet goes beyond just eating fruits and vegetables.0 -

He's not doing some dubious 'cleanse' with some artificial or processed mystery product. All he's doing is eating ACTUAL FOOD, nutrient dense food at that, and calling it a 'cleanse'. You may say it's not necessary, but is there anything wrong with it? No.
And let's say he doesn't get as much protein or fat as he's accustomed to. What's going to happen? Is his body going to implode and cave in on itself because he got only 60g of protein and not 100? Come on!
And what do you mean by temporary energy from fruits and carbs? I have yet to hear of any foods that give permanent energy.2 -
I'm actually all for the occasional "cleanse".& optimal time is with the change of the seasons. It is totally possible to still consume plenty of protein & healthy fats & carbs while eating just fruits & veggies. Strongly suggest a few days before & after to ease in & out so as not to fully shock the system & make it more easily attainable. You just need to do your research & be well educated, set your intentions & honor your body.
For me personally, when I cleanse I enter it with the intention of conciousness, to become more in tune with my mind, body & spirit. There is a ritual aspect to this style of eating & it can truly shift how you interact & think about food and its connection to your health & well being. There is also an emotional aspect aspect to cleansing.
Suppressed feelings have a tendency to surface and at times can catch you off guard. I recommend in addition to your food diary you have a regular diary to help process & track the whole experience. You may find that your body & mind don't want to "hit the gym hard". Respect intuition and consider alternatives such as walking in nature, yoga, swimming & dancing.
(Yeah these are all the words of *kitten* tree huggin hippie. I'm sure this thread can't wait to rip it to shreds but I rarely let that hinder my contribution Best of luck with your healthy endeavors!0 -

I disagree with pretty much everything here. ANYTHING that you do for only a week isn't going to do jack squat in the long run. Why not figure out how to eat more fruit and veggies every day? That will actually do something for you health-wise.7 -
