I'm sorry you are having to go through that, but I'm happy to hear of the positive outlook. I know of someone who found the LCHF diet was helpful for managing chemo nausea and weight loss. I hope you find the KD helps.

Definitely come join us at the Low Carber Daily group that was linked above. The people there are very supportive and upbeat, and many have had great success at a ketogenic diet.

I have been keto for around 10 months. I usually go for about 20g of carbs (5%) per day, although lately I've been aiming for less. My protein is a moderate 20%, and fats fill in the rest. The carbs I do eat are considered "slow carbs" and are usually lower GI vegetables. I avoid all sugar added foods and foods made from grains, as well as avoiding most starchy vegetables and most fruits beyond berries.. When I eat dairy it is full fat like 35-50% whipping cream, 14%sour cream, hard cheeses or butter. I also use a fair bit of coconut, coconut cream, and coconut oil.

Full fat is good for this diet but lite foods usually have sugar and will be harder to fit in. Eating whole foods with only a few processed fats (like olive oil or cheese) is probably the easiest way to go - and it appears to be the most healthful.

    Best wishes. :)

So true about the electrolytes! Many ketofiles find they need close to 5000mg of sodium per day. Drinking broth or even salting your water will help avoid the symptoms of low electrolytes (headaches, fatigue, brain fog, muscle aches or spasms.

    Hi Breezy59,
So sorry to hear you're dealing with this cancer. My sister had also fought cancer and taught me so much about the need for a different diet. She had appointments with multiple specialists in functional medicine. I just purchased a cookbook on Amazon: Quick and easy Ketogenic Cooking. I make bone broth soup every week or two and heat/sip once or twice a day. I have not been sick for over a year. Many blessings to you.

I had a delicious Keto Treat this evening... Coconut milk ice cream. Threw a can of coconut milk in my ice cream maker and let it whirl away with a scoop of vegan (sugar free) protein powder (Sun Warrior) and some erythritol. Friggin' perfection! Ate the whole thing and loving life over here! ;)

The chart below is for 2400 calorie expenditure so might be more appropriate to a man, but the idea is to be in the bottom left corner for therapeutic levels of ketones in cancer treatment.

Sorry to hear about your condition. Ketones are being heavily researched as a potential therapy for cancer, and they looks promising for certain cancers considered to be metabolic driven (in other words, a result of a bad diet). Ketogenic diet is one way to increase ketones, but intermittent fasting (aka restricted eating) is another, and it may be even more promising for your situation as IF has many other benefits. Talk to your doctor and do your research. Dr Colin champ has good blog info on this, as do many other doctors. Also, coconut oil also raise ketone production.

Please join the low carb group and post your story there. You will get a lot more specific info on published research about fighting chronic disease with ketones, intermittent fasting and diet.

Thank you Karlynketo. As soon as I figure out how I will! I did join the group. One step down. Thanks for the reference on fasting.
