April probably won't be as ambitious as March was because I have three major uni assignments due before the middle of the month and won't be as active. But if I could do what I did last April, that would be nice.

I'm a bit behind where I wanted to be ... behind last April ... but this month has been hectic! I've hardly had a second to think let alone cycle or walk. Plus, my husband had an accident at work and cracked his ribs, so he hasn't been able to get out as much either.

Yesterday was a rather dreary day in Minneapolis. Losing Prince is like getting all the fresh air sucked out of your lungs. He was often spotting tooling around Paisley Park on his bike, even just a few days ago. I biked over to First Ave after work to pay my respects, and got a flat tire. Dug around in my bag for my patch kit, but it started to sprinkle, so I hightailed it over to the downtown bike shop to get in changed inside instead. Shortly thereafter, the heavens opened and down the rain poured. And poured. And poured. Not quite purple rain, but fitting.
After the rain let up, the sun came out and the grass was so green. A rainbow appeared over Paisley Park. Life will continue, although now a little less purple and fabulous now without our Prince.
The appearing rainbow was seen on the TV news I was watching and I too thought how cool was that. Yep Prince was quite unique and will be missed. Sorry to hear about the flat but glad you got out of the rain storm and had it fixed.0 -

FYI
This is ssbeadlady. I have 2 accounts on this site and keep forgetting which account I am in. The reason for the 2 accounts is that I started one back in 2006 and had posted for many years and then stopped. When I started back up I had forgotten what the old account was so I started a new account. Then months later I found the paper I had written the old account information on so I started to use it again. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused but ssflbelle and ssbeadlady are the same person who is biking on a tricycle.1 -

Got up to an average 12 mph last summer, am hoping to get up to 15 on average this year!! That sounds crazy to me, but when I started last year I was way out of shape & I came a long way. This year I'm out of shape again, but not nearly as bad, &I'm already back up to 10mph. I know I can do it!0

You can do it. Make gradual changes with just a little more effort and increasing your distance. As you add distance, your stamina will increase and your speed will follow. Also, make sure the pressure in your tires is correct. If they are a little bit too soft, that can slow you down.

I have the same problem here in Arkansas. I love the spring winds, until I get on my bike. Then I hate them.
But come July or August, it becomes very still and hot and humid, and then I kind of wish the winds would come back.

Went into pre-marathon taper mode over the past week, so I've been mostly off the bike and using swimming as my cross training forms of exercise. Still, I ended up joining my tri-team's retired crew for their mid-Wednesday ride this morning, as we were pacelining at a more reasonable 22-24 mph range along some nice flat Florida roadside trails. Looks like I'll be missing my monthly target (as another 148 miles is feasible, but not advisable going into Sunday's marathon), but I'll see what I can make up in May.

True dat! Too bad we can't bottle it up for when it would actually do some good.0 -
61.5 miles so far this month - not much compared to some of the folks in the challenge but it's my first ever month of cycling! Very excited to be doing it !
Off to my den now for a bit more on the stationary bike...snow and wind here this week , but maybe tomorrow I'll brave it, especially as I just bought a high visibility fleece to ride in. Safety first, eh?2
