I've had the same issue multiple times. The longest streak I've had it work is about a month. I've learned that you need to open the My Fitness Pal app to the diary page and stay there sometimes it takes a minute or so before it syncs. If that doesn't work then it seems the only thing to do right now is to go into your app settings (on the phone not inside the app) and delete the app data. After you do that and sign back into the My Fitness Pal app you will need to set up Google fit under the steps menu again but it will usually work for at least a week or 2. An easy way to get into the app settings is to open the app drawer on your phone find My Fitness Pal then hold it and drag it to where it will say App Info which appears when you hold your finger on the app.
