    me again!!!

Started this glorious month of May up well before dawn, to a hill in the centre of the city to watch the Morris bring in the May. There's something magical about being up before sunrise, even more so when some daft people are prancing with bells on their ankles, clashing sticks and waving hankies to herald in the beginning of summer. Or something like that (apologies to the non-Brits who have never experienced the Morris Men (think there were more women dancers than men there though!!!). The rest of the day was spent dozing, and a friend cooked dinner.

A march to see some Neolithic long-barrows on the Bank Holiday Monday ended in typical British style - yup, running for cover (a chambered tomb we had to crawl to get into) as the heavens spilt their wares on us.

The last few days have been gorgeously sunny, and the weekend looks fabulous. I, however, have spent the last two days in bed with the most evil of bugs, scratching away at the back of my throat.

Somewhat worryingly I have a 10k race in....ten days, and haven't trained for about as long. This is of some concern.......

Hi everyone - and welcome Sarah, congrats Machka - and Yep, it's the Brit in me, but I love Morris dancing...(!)

Well done on our april successes!

I have not posted my end of april results ( I have been a bit overwhelmed by life) but they were good - certainly an improvement on March, and even if I 'failed' on doing something every day, I was certainly even more active , got back into a bit of cycling and some longer sswimming again and learned I could do gentle Excercise on bad health days. Thanks for the challenge,

Goals for May? Not sure. When I originally joined the challenge it was an 'activity' challenge not a '100 miles' challenge. (and I sure as heck cannot swim 100 miles in a month!!) So I need to think up my variation I guess.

You've seen what I do. And my restrictions. Any suggestions?

hey @gentlygently, this isn't such a daft idea as it sounds. How ABOUT swimming the English Channel? You are aiming for a 40 minute swim, how many lengths is that for you? Is it as much as a mile? 21 sessions and you're done? Or even something like, give yourself a mile for each day you are able to be active for more than 30 minutes, and aim for the 21?

    go for it!!!

@ girlinahat yes the mind does work in ways of our exercise. Some of my biggest disappointments in my rides has been when I started off thinking I need 30+ miles tonight. At about 17 miles I got to thinking how far I had to go, the wind seems strong, my legs just don't have it today........... and I ended short. I have found that 17 miles is easy now for me so I start off thinking I'll get to 17, then I find I feel pretty good, well I'll turn down this road and go to the river, get to the river and I'll ride into town and get a beer. I roll back home at 31 miles and find the wind 6 mph stronger than the previous day I ended. Every mile above 17 is a bonus and not a destination.

    Hi 100+ Mile Challengers!

I'm not new to MFP (although from my lack of weight loss at this moment, it would be hard to prove otherwise) but new to this group and would like to join. A little late in the month, but I'll target 100 miles total, including swimming (it all adds up).

    So far this month:

May 1: Swim 1.5 mi Bike 12.5 mi
    May 2: Wog (Walk/jog) 5 mi
    May 3: Walk 2 mi.
May 4: Bike 10 mi. An hour of dancing (Any way to judge linear distance by amount of sweat? If so, it would be longer than the bike ride.)
May 5-6: Plane rides: 4,108 miles with perhaps a mile of sprinting between terminals
    May 7: Bike 15 miles

    Welcome @Zelandais

Now, while we tend to be very accommodating in terms of different peoples abilities and achievements, I DO think any form of motorised transport shouldn't count towards your total...... ;)

As to dancing- I dance Lindy hop, but wear a fitbit so count steps from it and miles based on that. I uploaded that could be said to be cheating as a lot of the steps are small and on the spot, but like you I consider the sweat to be a good indicator!!!

Welcome to the team, and welcome to other newbies. Get MOVING!!

    Distances include cycling + walking
    March: 489.8 km (304.3 miles) = 38 hours 4 min
    April: 491.94 km (305.6 miles) = 43 hours 6 min
    May: 361.81 km (224.8 miles) = 35 hours 50 min
    June: 569.53 km (353.9 miles) = 41 hours 53 min
    July: 230.7 km (143.35 miles) = 32 hours 45 min
    Aug: 211.3 km (131.3 miles) = 28 hours 8 min
    Sep: 306.7 km (190.6 miles) = 35 hour 2 min
    Oct: 441.82 km (274.5 miles) = 47 hours 43 min
    Nov: 660.21 km (410.23 miles) = 60 hours 41 min
    Dec: 499.91 km (282.8 miles) = 54 hours 56 min
    Jan: 864.79 km (537.35 miles) = 65 hours 36 min
    Feb: 470.53 km (292.4 miles) = 40 hours 39 min
    March: 917.73 km (570.2 miles) = 66 hours 13 min
    April: 417.83 km (259.6 miles) = 40 hours 23 min

April wasn't a brilliant month for me in terms of exercise ... I had hoped to do one or two longer bicycle rides but sometimes life intervenes in the plans. April ended up being an incredibly busy month with a heavier-than-usual workload at work + assignments due at university + the final steps of my citizenship process. I wrote the citizenship exam and then my ceremony was on April 29 and I am now officially an Australian Citizen! :):)

May should be a calmer month, although I will be wrapping up the uni course I'm in so there will be work to do for that. Nevertheless, I hope for more kilometres than last May. :)
