Eating just to use up calories

I am sat eating a packet of crisp just to use up calories, how can this be good?
I choose crisp thinking it would use a lot up but not as much as I need to get rid of. Any ideas people?
I'm not hungry but I'm obviously not using up enough calories .

Save them for another day when you've got something nice to eat?

I would eat something nutritious rather than crisps maybe some fruit or nuts or Greek yoghurt. I'm struggling with low appetite at the moment so I do feel your pain2

You could always use them up another day. Try thinking of your allowance in weekly buckets instead.3

I did eat fruit after my tea & had two yogurts before I went onto the crisps0 -

These calories are within my 1200 not additional ones, I'm really not used to calorie counting, so I'm having meals thinking they sound ok, then get to night time after diary is done from 3 meals a day & find out I have loads left0 -

Daily goal is 1200, I had chicken veg and fruit us two yogurts0 -

Before dieting/ healthy eating, is that what you mean?
Well before that I did'nt eat properly, had breakfast, porridge or branflakes then nothing at dinner time or other way around, until tea time when I had a proper cooked meal0 -
So now I'm having to eat more food & think I am, know I am more than I did, but it's not enough calorifc value0

When people tell you to pre-log they mean to log all your meals before you eat them and then you'll know where you stand calorie wise. If you see that what you are planning for the day isn't enough then you can add some calories dense foods to your planned meals.2

It doesn't matter when you eat. There is nothing wrong with eating breakfast and skipping lunch and then eating your main meal in the evening. I don't like to slip meals because I tend to overeat at the next meal if I do, but my mom never eats breakfast and usually eats dinner around 8 in the evening and she is very slender. Eat at whatever times work best for your schedule.2

No, I mean pre log on a morning what you plan to eat for the day.
To be honest though, surely you know that chicken, veg and a bit of fruit isn't enough food in a day?0 -

Ah right maybe I should start doing that.
Chicken & veg was my last meal of 3 during the day, although where I think I went wrong today was eating what I thought was a big bowl of mixed fruit for lunch & did'nt really eat much else till I had dinner/tea

Yep, definitely prelog your day. Filling out my diary is the very first thing i do when i turn on my computer in the morning. If I'm over or under, I can tweak things until they're just right1

I keep peanut butter granola bars -I make with dates,peanut butter and honey as the base, Folded in with oats cinnamon and slivered almonds. I often go below my calories, So then i know i can just grab a nice healthy fat calorie bar XD Keep them in my freezer at all times1

I, too, plan my daily meals, though I don't always pre-log them on MFP.
However, if on any given day you're finding it hard to hit your calorie goal, then you can always save those calories for another day. Your body is constantly storing glycogen and fat, and constantly drawing on them as energy sources, so as long as you hit your goal in the long run, a day over and a day under don't matter.
But, here's the thing: if you consistently find it hard to hit your goal, and you are aiming to lose weight, it's likely that you are (1) underestimating how much you eat, (2) overestimating how active you are and how many calories you burn in exercise, or (3) both #1 and #2. When I was losing weight, I was hungry a lot of the time. After the first three weeks, it wasn't too bad, but I did have to learn to ignore those little pangs.
We're all different, and if you're losing weight without feeling hungry enough to meet your calorie goal, then more power to you! But if you're struggling to eat your goal calories, and you're not losing, then there is something awry with your estimates or your logging.7 -
Peanut Butter.
I don't eat to fill my calorie goal unless my protein is too low for the day or if I'm not hungry because I feel like crap, which usually means that I've eaten too little for too long.1 -

I wish this was me. I've been running out of calories earlier in the day and only have about 250 left by the time I get to dinner! Then I end up going over. How am I going to lose weight this way? I wish I could "bank" my calories for a later time. Ugh.2 -
Is it possible that you're measuring incorrectly? Just because you said you weren't used to counting calories, it seems unlikely you'd need crisps to fill out your calories...1200 is pretty low, it definitely took me a while to get used to.3

Yes ... I know I have absolutely no trouble getting to 1200 calories. A sandwich can easily be 400 cal, and that's just lunch.

Tracking alone really doesn't do it for me. I have to be more proactive than that and plan my day in advance. I know I have 1300-1400 calories to eat, and I want to have macros around 50P/30C/20F. I've discovered that sticking to that and working out at moderate intensity 6 days a week will usually result in a 2 lb loss. You may have to play with the numbers over the course of several weeks to find your sweet spot. I joined a fantastic Facebook support group that helped me learn to do this consistently. Why? Save them. Think in terms of weeks rather than discrete 24 hour units. It's not like the body resets at midnight. Eat something nutritious. But why eat crisps just to use up calories? Seems odd to me. Perhaps open your diary so we can offer advice as to how to better fuel your body and stay within the calories allotted to you?2 -
I looked at your diary. You are not getting enough protein or fat for any size of adult human being. It's doubtful your calories are adequate either given the items you are eating, no matter how much you may be underestimating portions because an apple has a finite size.
If your hunger cues aren't working, you need to plan your meals a lot better to include enough protein and minerals for the day. You may find following a meal plan such as in every issue of Better Homes and Gardens magazine.1 -

Today I have gone over at 1300+ but I am not going to use up the additional ones that come from doing exercise.
I said this week is a new one, I'm going to try & eat more, done ok today haven't I1 -
Almost any type of nuts or peanut butter has a ton of calories, and are considered healthy fats Try a handful of chocolate covered almonds maybe, easy 200 calories!0

That sounds like a good idea when I'm trying to use some up, I don't like peanut butter, though I do actually like nuts & chocolate!0
