Ketogenic Diet Advice

:) I started a Ketogenic based diet about 8 days ago and have eaten more red meat, cheese & bacon in the past 8 days than I have in the past 6 months. (Generally I eat it 1-2x a month and never eat dairy)

I generally eat a healthy diet & workout 4-5 days a week > I wasn't losing any weight and noticed after logging in MFP that my diet was very high in carbs & fat. (Carbs from too many grains, root veggies, beets, avocado, etc)

Which led me to wanting to try Keto focused on high protein/full fats and no carbs/sugar.

Eating all this meat is making me feel weighed down & I don't like eating so many saturated fats.

On this weeks grocery trip I'm going to focus on low carb vegetables, seafood & chicken to see if next weeks meals make me feel lighter on my feet.

Looking for any advice, tips and recipes from others who have lived a Keto life.

Just so you know, low carb is not necessary for weight loss, a calorie deficit is. I don't like eating a bunch of meat either :)

If you can find an MFP member named fitgoat.... He is the keto expert. Keto did not work for me. I need carbs just
not as many as MFP says I need. I try to keep mine below 140 a day. Also I try to eliminate refined carbs.

I'm no expert on keto diets (though I do think eating more vegetables is a great idea!). But consider asking your question here: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/394-low-carber-daily-forum-the-lcd-group
fit goat (mentioned above) is a member.

I don't live the "keto life" but my carbs are low enough that it's not unusual for me to be in ketosis. My advice is instead of focusing on no carbs/sugar you aim to eat as many carbs as you possibly can and still get the effects of ketosis. The variety is almost endless if you do.

Low carb/ketosis is great for a lot of people. That doesn't mean even lower carb is necessarily better. Whole foods are nutritious (and delicious) so eat them. You might do well to search out older recipe books (like Julia Child) to get an idea how to incorporate fat into your cooking without resorting to meat and more meat and keto fat bomb & bullet proof coffee type of recipes.

Good luck and if you haven't already you should check out the Low Carber Daily group where you'll find a lot of people who are focused on ketosis and might be more of what you're looking for. LCHF for beginners is also a great resource - the strict to moderate carb sections will ensure ketosis and give a good picture of what you can eat. Best wishes.
