    Water. Water. Salt. Water. Water.

Check out the sidebar links at Reddit.com/r/keto. Very useful.

I suggest you check out the main low carber forum group here in MFP. It's where most of us Ketofiles tend to hang out. Also, there's a TON of great info re Keto in the launchpad / sticky note area in this group:

Join the FB group Ketogenic Dieters. The admin there have lost over 1400 pounds collectively, many of them over 100 lbs individually. The group is amazing and has a tried and true path and philosophy based off of the works of Dr. Phinney and Volek, authors of the book The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living. I also recommend reading that book. It's a wealth of information, and I credit the group and their methods for my success so far. Starting week 12 and already down 35 lbs. Husband is on week 8 and down 42 lbs. Oh and pay VERY close attention to your intake of sodium, potassium and magnesium - if those are in check, you will avoid the keto flu and will be able to keep going more easily. The group talks a LOT about electrolytes so you'll find a ton of info there as well. Good luck.

Started on Tuesday. Aleady sleeping better and feeling better. I did get the "keto flu" on days 3 and 4. Push through that exhaustion and headache if you get one. Down 4.3 as of yesterday. Will see what tomorrow brings and how much I am down a week into it. Be prepared. Have snacks on hand and meals at least planned in your head. I am a mindless eater. I found myself popping a cracker or whatever in my mouth as I prepared the kids lunches for school. I had to change that and start using mouthwash right before I made them. I know it sounds crazy but it made the difference. The one tip I can give and its actually working for me is to just do my goals on a daily plan. Today I will drink all my water. Today I will walk at lunch. Today I will be a winner. If I think any other way I fail. It's just how I am and have finally realizing that is what I have to do. And can I just say……there is a recipe for 3 ingredient 5 minute ice cream and that has saved me during the first three days when I wanted some thing sweet.

Why Keto? Is it for medical reasons?

Thanks for this post!! Hubby and I are starting Keto (on day 4 now) and it's amazing the amount of info out there. I didn't know about the Facebook group or MFP but the Reddit area is a WEALTH of helpful info and recipes!
Hubby's reason for Keto is that he's tired of taking 12 different pile everyday and still battling blood sugar and triglycerides. It's obvious the "low fat diet" being pushed by medical professionals is failing us so we decided to try a more proven method. As a truck driver, low fat is hard to do anyway because he has no control over how things are cooked but there is a pretty good chance steaks and burgers aren't cooked in sugar so low carb is much more manageable. Plus it seems to be working so well for others.

The only thing that works for losing weight is eating less calories than your TDEE. Also your examples of steak and burgers may be an explanation.
