The donut shop within walking distance of me (fml, right?) has the most amazing buttermilk bars. Mmmmmmmm. Oh yeah, and glazed.

Oh man. Don't get me started on what people call 'eclairs'.

    Eclair

    ec14.jpg

    Not an eclair.

Eclair = pate a choux (choux pastry). Not donut dough.

Still annoyed about that time I went to a restaurant and ordered an eclair for dessert and they gave me a chocolate donut.

I'd have been pissed at that, too. It would have been sent straight back to the kitchen.

Old-timey cake doughnuts are my favorite, but I can't find them anymore. I did really like the potato doughnuts at Holy Donut. They might win out over the cake doughnuts if I could do a head-to-head comparison.

Barring those, a doughnut with an interesting and not-too-sweet glaze, like the one I get locally with habanero and passion fruit glaze.

Krispy Kreme custard-filled (or Bavarian Creme, if you're in the South). My favorite from my youth and still one of my faves today.

But my new favorite is a red chile chocolate bacon donut from Rebel Donut in my hometown. Seriously, you guys. Seriously.

We had these donuts yesterday at work. One was a raised, glazed with maple frosting and a piece of bacon on the top. We cut it into 4 pieces and shared. It was amazing!

My favorite was the Walnut Crunch from Tim Horton's. They discontinued it a few years ago. No one would ever take them when they came in the assorted box because it looked a bit like a poo, but they were delicious. Apple fritters are my new favorite.

If I had to eat a donut, I think it would be a dutchie...Or what swalte mentions above a Nutella donut sounds like something I'd like! When I was younger, anything jam or cream filled was my fave

A local bakery makes this glazed buttermilk donut that has a buttery crunch on the outside and pure yum on the inside ... that sugary glaze over the buttery crunch of the outside is soooo good!

I finally found one I can eat that doesn't taste like a frosted rock. Katz brand cinnamon and sugar. They are my favorite special treat now.

    I love all the doughnuts.

But right now, I think it is really cool I can buy ONE Dunkin Donut Munchkin. One beautiful taste and nothing leftover to tempt me.

This was, hands down, the best donut I've ever eaten: peanut butter and jelly from a local place in my old hometown. It was delicious and huge. I loved it so much I took a photo.

Not a massive donut fan, but if I do partake it's usually a Reece's peanut butter or Biscoff spread variety of Krispy Kreme.

Hang on, I need to change my answer. Because even though I get crullers more often, my FAVORITE are apple cider donuts. We even gave them out as wedding favors! But since they're seasonal (the good ones anyway) I didn't think of them originally.

Oh that's too bad. There's a local farm here that has them all year.

If it's super fresh, a glazed can be awesome, but I generally prefer cake ones: powdered sugar, cinnamon powdered sugar, glazed old fashioned, chocolate old fashioned (sometimes called crueller or sour cream?), Even blueberry. I guess it depends on my mood...

Maple foot - which is probably the same or very similar to the maple bars others have listed. I live in the south right now so I haven't had one in years.

All Krispy Kreme here - which is highly overrated but will start a fight if you say that out loud. They don't know better :D. A very fresh right off the conveyor belt hot glazed donut is the only good thing they make. It has to still be warm.

    I miss really good donuts.

Tim Horton's Canadian Maple or Top Pot's Boston Cream or from most anywhere a chocolate sour creme or blueberry cake donut.

A nice, basic glazed Krispy Kreme. If I can't get one, then a French cruller. Conveniently, those are the two most low cal donuts you can get your hands on, too. ^_^

Boston Cream - Maple Bar comes in second. This small little donut shop in my town makes the most amazing donut holes - they are so light and fluffy I could seriously eat a few dozen in one sitting - I try not to go there often!

I don't like any trans donut, the kind with trans fat.
