Hubby woke me up to help him get ready for work so I got out early and got an easy 3 in with Neeko. He was very happy to be able to come with. My legs are crazy tight and I know I need to foam roll, I just hate doing it. That will be goal number 2 for today, to make time and just do it. Just looked at the calendar and realized I have runs planned for Tuesday and Wednesday which should put me over my goal! Woohoo!
Back to work tomorrow after 5 days off, dreading it. Off to get my stuff together for that.

Super excited...it did take 5 years...yes, I could have done it faster, but it's more important to be able to keep it off and I think that I have the tools to do that. Hot air vs humidity - I ran at 7:30 this morning it was 78F and 80% humidity, 2 hours later and it's 86F and 60% humidity and sunny2 -
Great job @Orphia! Congrats on completing the HM distance. Very impressed that you knew you were ready and went out and did it.
Hot here today and I missed my morning window so I'll shoot for a 3 mile run this evening. At least the humidity is not too bad today.1 -
Ended up meeting my usual northern Sunday AM crew (smaller than usual) at 7AM for our long run. Starting temperature wasn't awful, but the humidity made it icky. One guy dropped off about 8 miles in, and the other slowed down pretty considerably after 10 miles (but could impressively perform a running motion while going at a 16 min pace), so I broke off and finished up on my own. Average wasn't awful, but the crew definitely wasn't used to this weather. Falling way behind on my biking goals, so I'll likely hit the bike this afternoon, and do a mid-distance run tomorrow AM before heading back to the south.

@Orphia - congrads on tackling that distance. It is definitely a bit of a different atmosphere doing it in a race with the crowd support and aid stations, and I'm sure you'd love it if you got a chance. Regardless, always great when you can build some confidence with it.3 -

Today's notes: As I wrote earlier today, my knee was feeling a bit wonky this morning, so I slept in and didn't run. Well, about 0830, my wife said we should go on a walk. I said that sounded great, and asked how far, so I could figure out a route, she said 2 miles....I figured that was a bit short, but whatever.....Well, she came out in her running clothes. AWESOME!
We ended up running for 1.56 miles and then walking for 0.43 miles to get back home. Run was 20 minutes for an average pace of 12:51, an nice easy pace for me, even pushing a stroller, and a good medium/hard pace for my wife. I'm so proud of her, she really puts her all into these little runs, and even lets me psh her a little further than she thinks she can go!
Depending on how I'm feeling, I might go for another short, 1.5-2 mile run this evening, just to work a few kinks out, but for now, I'm a very happy man.4 -
My son, Alex, is still running. He's following a plan- little hurt that he didn't run it by me He's doing well on it. He's young, no reason he can't stomp out some miles. He's learned the value of some of my running gear, 2 MFP running shirts , my tube belt, and he ate all my picky bars as TV snacks. I tried to get him to download Strava (his Garmin is at his dad's somewhere . Ah! Don't lose a Garmin! ). DH has an old 220 he can use though. Maybe that gift subscription to Runner's World is paying off. And my incessant nagging how he should be a runner.
This morning DH decided to sign them both up for the 49th annual Fireball July 4th 5k (DH may do the 10k).. ohhh the torture! Can I at least get a shirt! Argh! I'll get to experience a race as a spectator, maybe I should volunteer. Idk, a runner may run me over on crutches. Thay crazy.5 -
Taper sucks I am looking up how to carbo load, planning my last 2-3 runs (T/W/Th, any thoughts on how long to run for them?) and I just checked 3 different websites for the extended weather forecast for 7/4....Good news is the projected high is down from 87 to 81, with over night low the night before to be 61, so hopefully it will be relatively cool for my 0630 start time1

Out the door at 5:30 this morning for 7 miles. I modified my planned route because mile 5 I was feeling like the tank was empty. All the sweat and no food, I was bottomed out. The plan was to start and end with a flat mile with all hills in the middle. I just couldn't do another round of the hills so I ended with 2 flat miles instead. I'll have to tackle that again, on a cooler day and maybe some breakfast in me. It was 75 at 5:30am :-/ and high humidity of course.1

Sounds like you did more than enough, considering the weather and all. Great Job!0 -

Yes, enough. Funny thing is my last 2 miles I got faster and faster so I guess I had more left in me than I thought. Lol2 -

I always seem to get faster the last couple miles also....maybe it's something about the sooner I get the miles in, the sooner the suffering stops????1 -
I've been out of the loop for nearly a week, I've been having a bit of a sucky time and have been feeling really washed out, as if I just have no energy whatsoever. I felt equally weak today, but convinced myself that actually I have just been being lazy and that I should go for a run anyway because I would feel better after. I should not have, as I ended up feeling dizzy and sick, which is now the third run in 2 weeks that has left me feeling like that. I need to get to the bottom of this and find out what on earth is going on in my body, I'm so fed up of constantly feeling dizzy and generally very 'fragile. I can't really explain it any more than that, and it isn't just running either, as I generally feel rubbish the rest of the time too.
Anyway, goal has gone out of the window. I just need to keep getting out there for the next few days and try to work out what I need to do for this strange bout of whatever-it-is to subside.
I just kept telling myself as I forced myself to slowly run home that there can't be much better preparation for the mental battle that will lie ahead in the last few miles of the marathon next year!
I did sit and read all 236 posts I have missed this afternoon though, but can't begin to post any responses. Sorry!

6mi easy run @ 9:50/mi with 1% grade added every mile. 1-6%. Let's just say I was dying at 6% haha.
47.1mi this week. Not bad considering I'm just messing around. Not really trying. Only 1 medium tempo. The rest easy.3 -
@louubelle16 I hope you can get that dizziness sorted out soon! Welcome back!0
-
Been too busy to check in or post anything for the past few days...so I missed 227 new posts! You all are still amazing.
I did get in a gummy 4 miles after some much needed rain on Thursday morning, and a slightly muggy 10 miles yesterday. I'm on pace to hit my monthly goal dead on.
I can't wait for my next run, though...I finally got along to stopping in at the Colorado Running Co. for a gait analysis and a new pair of running shoes. I came away with a new pair of Saucony Ride 9's. I've been wearing Sauconys for a long time, so it's not a huge change, but for the little bit of running I did around the building they felt great.
'Til next time....happy running!

@louubelle16 I hope you figure out what's going on. It sounds like it would be worth a visit to the doctor for some blood work. Any chance you could be pregnant?1
-
New Taper symptom for me...I was folding socks and realized that I have a "serious" dilema about socks. Wear my extremely light weight, and therefore cooler Asics, or my heavier Brooks that are more comfortable as far as feel and cushion, but will definitely be hotter.....LOL....Race Day can't come soon enough2

That's how I was feeling shortly before I was diagnosed with some significant anemia. I was also feeling winded even just doing light stuff around the house and struggling to get a "deep breath" even when still (basically, my body wasn't satisfied with the oxygen it was getting, because it wasn't near enough). Have you had blood work recently to rule out anemia?

Hahahahahahaha, no
I went to the doctors about a month ago about the fact that I've been constantly ill for the last year, which is extremely unlike me - before this last 9-12 months, I hadn't taken a day off work/university for illness since I was 13. He said I could go for some blood tests but that I have to be feeling well and have been well for at least 2 weeks to have them done, otherwise they will be skewed. I haven't felt well enough yet to go, which is useless really
Thanks @MNLittleFinn, I hope so too!1 -

LOL yes, I do this too. I generally run negative splits but that 5th mile was nasty and I didn't expect to recoup.0 -

Nominal Challenge Goal – 100 miles
Real Goals: Recover from injury to the point where running feels normal again. Stretch goal, recover to the point where I can run at race pace.
Today's notes – I thought I might like to run 8 or 10 miles today, but I missed running early. It was supposed to be in the low 90s this afternoon, so I figured 8 would be enough. At 3 PM, my porch thermometer said 96° and I was intimidated by the heat on the driveway. Came back in and took a nap. Finally got out at 5, when the porch thermometer said 98°. Didn't know how far I'd run. There was a nice SW breeze that helped for about 2.5 miles, then I turned east with the wind at my back and roasted a bit. Ended up deciding 6 miles was all I was going to do in the heat. When I got done, it was down to 96° by the porch thermometer; but it didn't feel that bad out on the roads. I think the porch thermometer is reading a bit high in the summer due to heat coming off the blacktop driveway.
The weather feed Garmin uses had the temperature dropping from 91° to 90° while I ran, and said it was only 20% relative humidity when I was done. Okay, still warm enough to stop at 6 miles. If I believe the porch thermometer, it's a new PR for how hot a temperature I've run in; if I believe the weather feed, it ties a PR. But the last time I ran in 91°, the humidity was a lot worse than today.

Mom and sister just made the night (in just a week!) before race day much easier. They found a hotel about a mile from the starting line and booked a room, so, now I can just wake up, get dressed and walk over as my warm up...... my whole family is going to be staying the night, so I'll have a nice little cheering section somewhere along the course!11
-
I got 3.1 miles in tonight at about 8 pm. We topped out at 90 today but it was about 84 by that time. I ran a slower pace than any of my other runs this week and it felt good to take it a bit easier.
My total for the week was 20.4 miles. For the month, I'm at 76.6 miles toward my goal of 80.
I spent some time today thinking about which half marathon I want to sign up for as my first ever half. I've been gathering some opinions from local runners and I'm split between a local race and a destination race. Both are in October, both are flat courses. The local race is on a course where I run all the time, so has the advantage of familiarity and the hometown crowd advantage. The destination is not too far away (within 4 hour drive) so should be doable and has a gorgeous course that would really be special. I don't know yet! I think both have a price increase coming up so I should decide soon.
It's exciting that this is even something I'm contemplating. Lots of work to do to be even close to ready.5 -

@louubelle16 .....I'm sorry, but that is the most ridiculous thing I (as a physician) have ever heard.....I make a concerted effort NOT to play doctor on any chat room/board, but here is my professional opinion: go NOW and get another opinion.
