New pet peeve, if I want to get any of my official race photos, it's like $15. On the other hand, my mom snapped this photo of me at mile 12.7, I may have felt like a zombie but I looked like a runner!

@5BeautifulDays Thanks! I'm kinda getting antsy to run. I think it has finally hit me that I've had 6 days off now. Lol.
@kristinegift Nice! Mine is actually a night race called Nocturnal Sins. It's a series. But the daily high is 108f. So it will still be toasty at the 8:15pm start.
Racing a day race in the heat is a whole different animal. The sun is a laser death beam. Pray for clouds lol.
@MNLittleFinn Charging for photos is lame. Whenever they do that, I just save the watermarked pics to my comp. Especially the Rock n Roll marathon races.3 -
@ROBOTFOOD They have it set up, somehow, so I can't just safe the watermarked photo, that was my first thought0

Just screenshot and crop everything else out.3 -
Good call, got some nice pics saved now2

Training for my first half marathon - so need to do 75 miles in July. Race is the Hartford Half in October!7 -
@MNLittleFinn ONLY $15, you mean?!?! That's a steal! Marathon Foto usually wants like $45 for one single picture or something crazy. Obviously, I never purchase mine. I can't afford the outrageous prices. If they just charged less, I'm sure they'd sell more... That being said, there are a lot of local races around here that are starting to include photography fees in the race fee, so the pictures are posted for free, which is A+!2

@cindydonaldson62 good goal. You have plenty of time to get up the mileage so don't push it too hard. 75 is a good goal for this month.1

Hi everyone,
I am back for July - in for 160 km this month. I did my first marathon on Sunday in 4:56:58 (net time)! I am pretty stoked with that; my goal was 5 hrs. It was the Gold Coast Marathon, a really flat, beautiful course. The weather always seems to be good for it. During the first half of the race, I thought I might end up with a faster time, because I was feeling pretty good; but I felt myself slowing down around 26 km, and then the the last 10 km was really tough. It was heating up a bit by then, too. At the Gold Coast, you have to pass the start/finish precinct at 32 km, and then go out for 5 km before turning around to come back for the last 5 km. My husband explained this to me, and said, how tough it is to do that, and do the last 10 km. Well, he was right - I kept thinking, "Where is the turn around?", and you can see all these other runners coming back on the final 5 km, and you're thinking "I wish I was up with them!".
Geez that last 10km really sorts people out. My longest training run was 32 km, so the last 10 km was a journey into the unknown. I passed a lot of people who were stopping to stretch out cramping muscles or just walking the last bit. I passed a few people getting medical attention, and someone running with one shoe on, because their heel was rubbed raw and bloody (ouch). Earlier in the race I saw an older gentleman running the race barefooted! He was cracking along at a good pace, too. I wondered whether he was a barefoot runner, or whether he just forgot his shoes. Another awesome thing about the Gold Coast marathon is that they put your name on your bib, so as you're struggling to finish those last 5 km, the spectators lining the course can shout out your name, and encourage you on. That was really great.
Now I am thinking about how I can improve on my time for next year - 4:30 sounds like a good goal .
I have a half marathon coming up in 12 weeks, so will be back to training next week. I have a couple of very slow paced runs on the schedule for this week, in marathon recovery mode. I am pretty happy with how I pulled up after the marathon; no injuries, mainly muscle soreness and a tight calf, which usually sorts itself out in a few days.
July 1: Rest
July 2: 3.05 km
July 3: 42.59 km (Gold Coast Marathon)
July 4: Rest
July 5: Rest
Total: 45.64 km
Races:
5 June Rocky River Run 21km
3 July Gold Coast Marathon
2 October Capricorn Coast Running Festival Half Marathon

Great job @michable! Awesome that you were able to finish under your goal time.
Interval workout with the group tonight. We did 1 minute hard x 12 with 1 minute recovery in between. Also sprints x 4. With warmup and cooldown I clocked in 5 miles.

I'm Back. My first run since tearing up my calf on May 20.
A very slow and cautious 4 km in 22 minutes. In hindsight I was actually quite a bit faster than I thought.
It felt slower than a 5:30/km pace. Did a long pre-run walk and stretching cycle and an equally long post run walk and stretching cycle. Will see how I feel tomorrow as that will be the true measure of this little test run.
07/01 – 0.0 km – 0.0 - 100 km – 619.2 km
07/05 – 4.0 km – 4.0 – 96 km – 623.2 km
