Checking in for July. Spent the first 3 days at my favorite geek convention, and then yesterday recovering. This month's goal is cross training - bike at least 5 days a week, and then run and swim 2-3 days a week.
7/5 - 21 miles. Took the slightly shorter way home to stop at the farmer's market and managed to squeak home before the heavens open and the rain came tumbling down.

Got in a long ride covering half of a trail that is about an hour car ride away (withalocoochie). Hope to cover the second half once I get a chance as the wildlife encountered along the way was pretty amazing (4 tortoises, 3 deer, 1 armadillo, 1 black snake, 2 off leash dogs, and lots of squirrels), road crossings were infrequent, and much of the trail was shaded (a nice break for Florida simmer riding).

I'm in again. It's still rainy season here and I'm still a bit bruised and swollen so I'll keep my goal to 500 km, though I hope to get more.

An ill-fated ride. Strava shorted me about 4 miles on my ride down the trail. Then, my daughter's tire blew. My girls didn't feel able to walk 6.5 miles home after riding 6.5 miles out. We walked 2 miles off the trail before Grandma came to the rescue. She took my daughter and her gimpy bike home and my other daughter and I rode the rest of the way. Because of strava freezing and having to go off trail, I'm going to guestimate my distance at 12 miles (4 very long hours).

Had an great cycling day today, as three awesome things happened:
1) I managed to keep up for the entire ride (for the first time) on my Friday morning hammerfest triathlon team ride (minus one paceline fail trying to rejoin the line after pulling at 29 when the strongest rider in the crew kicked it up to 32mph w.o. wind right after me - but it was at the end of a segment before a light), and was one of the first 4 up each of the 3 climbs (out of 11 very hardcore riders).
2) My power meter arrived (Garmin Vector 2S - awesome deal from nashbar on a pedal based power meter as I think they forgot to exclude garmin products from their 4th of July weekend 25% off sale coupon code), so I installed it on my roadie as I couldn't unscrew my pedals on my tri bike, and got to test it out.
3) I went out for a mid-day 15 mile ride on my beach cruiser to pick up a bike mount kit for my watch (wasn't in stock at the store so snagged from that store's online shop/warehouse), and on the ride kept up with a real road bike (with gears) above 20mph for 5 miles of the ride (which is a bit insane given my gearing on the fixed gear beach cruiser).
All in all, it was a good biking day.
