I do (since June 29). Already lost 4 pounds and feel so much better.

Nice! I've been flirting with the idea but haven't taken the plunge yet.

It was a big leap for me (I'm a carbaholic). But I needed to do something to help my blood sugar levels and lose some weight

I'm carb sensitive too and am fairly sure that my fat is locked up due to insulin resistance. Plus I struggle with the double whammy of release of cortisol and stress hormones from insomnia and caretaking a special needs son. But I am worried if LCHF doesn't work for me that I will never get rid of the last 10 stubborn fat pounds that won't budge. Ugh. I've tried HCLF and plateaued. I've tried upping my protein but my body adapted to that as well. I hate the idea if giving up more % carbs, but I went low glycemic and lost a few and plateaued on that also.

A good friend of mine does it, he eats almost no carbs (like 10g/day), but allows himself all the protein and fats he can handle. he looks incredible. He will tell you, as a warning, that you cannot cheat very much if you eat this way. He gives himself 1-2 cheat meals a week, but outside of those, I've never seen him touch white food. he goes so far as to bring his own no carb noodles into vietnamese restaurants to put in the pho.

I don't do LCHF, just low carb. I haven't eaten carbs for seven weeks and have lost 30 pounds and feel awesome. I don't cheat ever, so I can't speak to that. I do have some fruit 3-4 days a week. I eat cheese and mayo and sauté veggies in butter, but don't go out of my way to eat fat. My knee joint was always aching, but it doesn't bother me at all anymore and my colitis that I've dealt with for about 12 years is gone. I feel 10 years younger. I recommend this way of eating to anyone.

fat is locked up due to insulin resistance.

    Insulin Resistance defined -
A resistance to the hormone insulin, resulting in increasing blood sugar.

It doesn't cause fat retention. Obesity, genetics, and some medical conditions can cause insulin resistance. Continued insulin resistance can lead to type 2 diabetes.

    This link explains it well.

I have pcos, family history, and had a poor diet and lack of exercise for 15 years that lead to a type 2 diabetes diagnosis for me. Not trying to call anyone out, just attempting to correct misinformation.

It can make it a bit harder. A simpler solution is to reduce your insulin levels with low carb and moderate protein. That can help.

I gained weight after becoming insulin resistance. For me, there is something to that.

I was a HUGE carbaholic!!!! Lchf has helped me in so many ways and I'm not a slave to my food! No longer dragging through my workouts or my day for that matter and the food is satisfying! I def eat carbs one time a week because life happens and I don't think deprivation helps a person stick to any program...this has been the best way of eating

There is some association with lower metabolic rates with IR and PCOS. Based on that, it can make it harder to hit a deficit.

The low carb group is great for getting you set up.

I just started the keto diet! It's been quite the adjustment trying to increase fat intake and decreasing to 20g of carbs a day. Is anyone on the keto diet? How's it going ?

Balance. Its all and about balance.

Do not cut yourself short of the daily recommendations needed. Carbs give us the energy we need to stay strong minded and alert.

Stay away from bad carbs, and try not to exceed your daily intake amount.

You are beautiful, be patient, and kind to your body.

P.S. Following the food chart should help also. If you really do eat all the right serving sizes, you will realize its alot of food. (Not much time for junk when your eating what your body needs)

I just started keto today also. But I tested a keto stick and nothing is happening yet. How long does it take to kick in?

Fat also gives us the energy we need to stay strong minded and alert, and doesn't result in getting sleepy/hangry three hours later.

I did the whole "balanced" (funny how balanced almost always means carb-heavy... huh) USDA style diet most of my life. Was consistantly overweight, suffered low energy, reactive hypoglycemia, and moderate to severe eczema. Switched to a LCHF diet three years ago. The incessant hunger and cravings went away, as did 50 lbs and my eczema. Haven't had a hypo since and my energy and focus are on a more even keel.

I'm glad the high carb, low fat conventional advice works for you. It really is all about finding what you can do, and do for life. For many people carb restriction is a powerful tool.

I've lost about 85 pounds on a high carb diet. My sekret has been eating fewer calories than I burn. Haven't been very hungry most of the time, my acid reflux went away completely, I have more energy, it's been fantastic.

Depends on how much glycogen you have stored. You have to use that up first before you will be using enough ketones for the sticks to reflect it.

Good luck to you Deb! I know you've been contemplating this change for a while now... I hope you see the results you are looking for! Did you join the low carb forum yet? Amazing group with lots of knowledgable ketophiles! Highly recommend.

I started keto 6/1... I was in the worst shape of my life at 241lbs.... I've been consistent for the past 6 weeks, only cheating once to have some bread with my Jimmy Johns sandwich... Six weeks later, and I'm now at 214! 27 lbs in six weeks without a single workout! My goal is 175, so I'm starting the insanity workout program today to try and get into shape.. We'll see how it goes! All I can say though is that keto has worked wonders and I feel so much better!

I agree with you fully! I'm def not going Keto because it's too much hormonally for some women to put their bodies through. LCHF helped me lose 52 pounds and no cravings and I'm def not eating every 2 hours! Three meals a day and I'm good
