Shakeology?

Hi all. I'm once again starting my weight loss journey… Again. I've had Piyo DVDs for a couple years now and just did the first one today. What does everyone think of Shakeology? I might want to order some but I'm not sure if it's worth the money.

I prefer food.13

Not worth the money. Protein shake, multi-vitamin and a balanced diet will get you there...10

Avoid it. Tastes awful. You can find a cheaper better tasting protein powder elsewhere. $129 for a bag of ShakeO - no way.8

I recently just started using Shakeology and can definitely notice the difference. Yes its a lot of money up front, but it isn't bad if you use it to replace a meal. Does a very good job of filling you up for around 250 calories.3

I can find cheaper ways to replace a meal. Sorry its a rip off. And I used to be a BB coach for the discounts and still it was a rip off. There is nothing magical about it. Beachbody just has a great marketing campaign.6

I just had a nice meal of chicken and veggies for the same amount of calories, and it was much more satisfying than a shake would be for me.... Plus cheaper.12 -
I agree with all the other posters. It's hella expensive, tastes blah, and isn't all that great for you. Make your own protein shakes at home. Honestly, a high quality multi and a premier protein ready to go shake will give you the same nutrition for way less price and tastes way better.2

Personally I prefer to eat my calories shakes do not fill me up. I can get plenty of protein by fage greek yogurt and old fashion oats. I guess if you really wanted to you could use the fage to make your protein shakes.2

Sooooo...there's nothing special about it that would warrant the cost? Oh, ok.
I'd prefer to spend my hard earned cash on actual food, and if I wanted a smoothie/shake, I'd make it myself or stop by (insert your local smoothie/shake place here). They actually do have some good options if you aren't ridiculously picky.

I like chewing. Plus has anybody ever lost and maintained their weight loss for a significant period of time using something like this? I genuinely would like someone to post if they have.2

I'm not a big breakfast eater, so I make a protein shake with a little milk, a scoop of a grocery store protein powder, cold brew coffee, and some zero calorie caramel coffee flavor.
Tastes like Starbucks, under 200 calories, and I paid 18 bucks for the big *kitten* jug of protein.6 -

To elaborate on my initial response: You have lost weight before, and regained. Most of us have been there and done that as well. Some of us have found a way to stop "yoyo"ing: Eating and living in a sustainable way is crucial. Sustainable means that you can see yourself doing it, happily, for the rest of your life, just with a slightly larger calorie intake. Can you see yourself happily drinking "weight loss shakes"? Or do you, like most of us, like to eat?2 -
Good point. I love to eat. Hence, my problem. Lol. Sustaining is always my downfall. Thank you for the food for thought! Pun intended.3

The good news is that you aren't going to stop eating. You just have to stop overeating. You can still, and should, love food - in fact - love of food comes from eating it in appropriate amounts, not mindlessly shoveling. It takes practice and commitment - but I think it's totally worth it.4 -
Quick fix, just literally stick to mfp0

I drink it every day and I love it! The strawberry one is amazing, I throw in 1/2 a banana and a huge heaping of spinach. I drink it on my way to work every day and I feel fabulous. I recommend trying it for yourself and seeing how you like it and feel on it. Let me know if you try it and what you think!1

@denise123177 Here is the question I would ask myself if I was contemplating ordering something like Shakeology: Is this something that I am going to include in my food plan for the rest of my life? If the answer is "probably not", then I don't order or buy it.3

How do you attribute the way you feel to the Shakeology?7 -
It feels good knowing I'm drinking something with so many good ingredients, knowing how good it is for my health. And I have more energy throughout the day, which always feels fabulous to me1

I got the shakeology as a deal with a friend that is a fitness coach. Never in a million years would I spend $130 per month on a shake. I think that its okay. The taste is fine as long as you drink it ice cold. I don't find that is has helped stop cravings or fill me up, which is annoying lol. I prefer to physically eat my protein and nutrients. For some I know it has been great and worked very well. I am going to try to be better about drinking it regularly and see if that works since I have an entire bag left basically. But for 250 calories I rather eat something like a hard boiled egg and avocado instead of drinking a drink. That's just personal preference. I think natural, healthy and clean foods are the best thing for your body instead of putting products into you. Again that is just my opinion!0

There was a huge shakeology movement on my block last year. All of the wives on the street wanted to get involved after one of the ladies lost a bunch of weight. Long story short, much money was wasted.. some ladies lost weight, some didn't. I think of it more of a motivational product. If someone needs to believe there's some magic shake that's going to help them transform, and this aids them through diet and exercise, then have at it. In the end, it's just a shake. If you follow the guidelines and follow the recommended diet and exercise regimen (which is why people actually lose the weight) then maybe it'll be good for you. Do you need it? Definitely not.6

YUCK on Shakeology!!!! I just returned what I bought because I had to gag it down. I prefer Advocare Shakes personally but that is just my preference. If you are wanting to get more protein there are other shakes that are less expensive then Shakeology and Advocare... and I am an Advocare Distributor!! Save yourself and your tastebuds, eat more chicken, fish, nuts and other higher protein foods.0

I've tasted Shakeology and if it were given to me for free I'd drink it for no other reason except that it's free and I'm not too hard to please when it comes to protein powder. However, you can buy so many other powders for half the cost or even less. You can add in your own fruits and veggies as well. There is nothing magical about Shakeology whatsoever. If you want something that is comparable to everything Shakeology claims it has, try Vega One protein powder. I drink that when I'm in the mood for a protein shake and much prefer it to whey based protein shakes, as I find it easier on my stomach.1

Came here to say this. It's a very expensive shake that you could easily create yourself for half the money.
Fills you up? Guffaw! Not really.0 -
Used to be a BB coach, used to drink Shakeology. Stopped wasting my money. It's an okay shake, nothing special, not anywhere near worth the money. They have not had what's in it verified by any outside agency, so my assumption is it's basically a placebo.
If you really like the shake idea, get a better priced protein powder and throw it in a blender with a frozen banana and whatever veggies you can spare, and take a multivitamin.
OP, I honestly believe the key to not falling off the wagon is getting on the correct wagon in the first place. Take the time to find a way of eating that you can stick to for the rest of your life. Log everything for a couple of weeks, then look back at those logs and figure out what you ate on the days you happily hit your goal, and what you ate on the days you struggled. Then learn from that and keep logging. Don't be too restrictive so you can't stick to it. But do work to be accurate so you really KNOW what's working and not working. Try pre-logging your day, that has helped me out a lot. Good luck!4 -
complete waste of time and money ..
all you need is a calorie deficit, food scale, micro/macro adherence, and some form of exercise.0 -
