I was diagnosed with an overgrowth years ago but couldn't bring myself to make such a huge lifestyle switch. My symptoms have gotten worse so I've been transitioning for about 10 days now. I already see the difference in my skin and bloating is waaay down. It's encouraging me to go deeper.

Use food grade diatomaceous earth? I've been using it for almost 2 months.

This is flea killer.. called diatomaceous earth.. or something like that.. we used it last year to kill a flea infestation before hard woods were installed in our house. ;)

Yes, also for other creepy crawlers like ants. Apparently there is a fine line between poison and healthy product to cleanse the body of all it's evils. I went looking for some food grade stuff, because I wanted to use it in the house (I have animals inside and didn't want them ingesting the other stuff). The lady at the "health" store asked if I was making something special with it. I was tempted to tell her my husband is being a *babysloth* (not actually married) and I'm making him a birthday cake, but it would have gone over her head. I explained about being used for pest control and she seemed shocked.

I read this as Canada Diet. Maple syrup and back bacon?

Don't forget the poutine and Kraft dinner with ketchup, lol.

I was diagnosed with SIBO and candida. It's really really difficult to stay ahead of it if you fall off the wagon. The best thing I've ever been able to do is switch from empty carbs like bread and excessive sugar in coffee, over to fruit and honey. Starving the candida just makes the cravings so much worse. I'm pretty much modified paleo diet, if anyone has similar goals and wants to add me, feel free.

Unless you have AIDS or are on chronic immunosuppressive drugs then you aren't going to have an overgrowth of candida. Healthy women get candidal vaginitis (yeast infection) because the pH of the vaginal canal alters the microbiota. Babies can also get oral/esophageal candiasis due to poor cell mediated immunity. This phenomenon doesn't occur in your intestines. There isn't any good support in the medical literature for "candida overgrowth." It's a fad that quacks use to scam people.

This can occur in your intestines if you take too many antibiotics, have intestinal disorders, or consistently eat a crap diet full of sugar. Candida is more commonly found in different areas of the body, but doctors do have tests to determine if this is a problem. MDs are less apt to run these tests, but some will. Naturopaths or specialists have tests they can run to determine if you have a problem with candida overgrowth in your intestines.

If you have intestinal issues shouldn't you be seeing a GI instead of a naturopath?

Mayo Clinic - What is a candida cleanse diet and what does it do?

I have never been able to find a decent peer-reviewed study that shows candida overgrowth can even exist in the gut, or that it is possible for candida to cross the intestinal wall into the bloodstream. Candida can for sure take over in other areas - thrush, yeast infections - but alternative practitioners, supplement sellers, and book authors have been trying to make gut candida overgrowth a thing for decades. Any gastros and RDs I have read over the years basically say - everyone has intestinal candida, it belongs there, and a candida overgrowth in your intestine would be easily visible by scope.

OP, regardless, I do wish you luck and hope you feel better!

DE is the fossilized remains of diatoms. It works as a physical (vs. chemical) insecticide because it is basically pure silica and it mechanically abrades the "critters" exoskeletons protective layer as well as other stuff, IIRC, that ultimately result in death by dehydration for said critters.

There are people who feed DE to their horses and dogs/cats in large quantities, usually along with garlic as well, claiming it is an effective anthelmintic as well. It is not.

So then I must be a medical anomaly because I am not on immune system depressing drugs and do not have AIDS or a vagina. The lab must have been in on the deception as well because they told me I had the presence of candida in my bloodstream. But hey, I'm sure you're right.

Which is why an alkalinizing diet like the candida diet can help.

I would love to see your scientific study link for this!
