Weight loss vs. Pant size

I apologize in advanced if this has been asked before but the app on my phone keeps messing up every time I try and search.
I wanted to get some input and see how much people had to loose before going down a pant size.
I am 5'8" and started out at 248.4 and am down to 229.8 (18.6 lbs) and I have lost:
Waist- 1.25"
Hips- 1.5"
Thigh- 2"
...and so far I haven't gone down a size
I am feeling better in my clothes, but just wondering what others lost before dropping a size.
Thanks in advance

For me it's usually every 10lb.3

I was 263 last fall and squeezing myself into size 20 (was probably a 22 or maybe even 24). Tops were 2X/3X.
I'm now around 217 and wearing size 16/XL in most brands I own (varies up or down a size in a few things).
I'm 5'4" and I've lost a lot of inches though with that weight loss:
Neck: 1"
Bicep: 1.5"
Forearm: 0.75"
Chest: 6.25"
Waist: 4.5"
Hips: 3.5"
Thigh: 3.25"
Calf: 1"
As you can see, I carry my weight around my middle... so it's coming off there first.5 -
It varies depending on a number of factors, but generally the higher size you are the more you have to lose to change sizes. I started at 248 also, just two inches shorter, and it was about 20-25 pounds before I could get into a 20.0

It takes me about 2 stone (28lbs) to go down a size0

That's going to be a very subjective answer, I'm afraid. A person's height, body fat percentage and bone structure are going to play into it. So is the construction of your pants (stretch) and how tightly they fit you before you started to lose weight. If they were tight it's going to take a lot longer to drop a size than if they were already pretty loose on you.2
-
I started at 262 in a size 24. I just kind of dealt with it, so I'm not sure what it ended up being, but at 210ish DH complained so much about my "saggy buns" in too large of jeans, that I went shopping. At that point, I was into an 18.2

Probably about 10lbs or so. Though recently I haven't lost a lot scale weight, maybe 4lbs but within that have lost nearly a size (and i still have maybe 30lbs to lose for reference). I put it down to strength training giving me some low level recomp so can't complain!0

I know it's going to be subjective, but I'm just asking for everyone's personal experience. 18 lbs feels like a lot to me and I feel like I should have lost a size but now that I have others to compare weight los to I see differently1 -

That's awesome!
I'm in a size 16 now (which is what I was starting out but they were getting tight lol)
I am hoping to get down a size or two by the holidays0 -
It's really inches lost not pants. It's also more needed to lose for the larger sizes, and less when transitioning between smaller sizes
So waist lost 6 inches
hips lost 4 inches
Moved form a large 14 (well sometimes a 16 or a 14W) into a 12 ( smaller if in designer clothes).
45 lbs lost I'm 5 62 -
I went down 2 dress sizes in 4 month, that's 2 stone so 1 stone per size. Although, I tried on some jeans that used to fit me years ago and they fit now, but I weigh more than I did when they used to fit me. I'm guessing I've lost more in inches than in weight as I've been doing toning workouts.2

Generally, every 10 lbs. Started 220 at tight 16, currently at 155 size 8, goal 135 size 4'ish. Fun fact - the pockets on smaller pants are (you guessed it) smaller. My iPhone used to fit in the pocket of my 16's, doesn't fit in 6's.5
-
Losing 40 pounds (many years ago; pre-baby weight) took me down from size 12ish to size 6ish.0
-
the larger sizes take longer to go down sizes, they are more ... accommodating.
probably ...30 ish pounds to start going down sizes. once i got under 210 ish and a sz 16 or so? it was around every 10 pounds or so1 -
That's for all the info everyone0

I'm 5'9". For me 10 pounds is a size...1
-
I'm 5'9". At first i had to lose about 20 lbs per size down. Now it's closer to ten.
260 size 20/22
240 size 18/20
230 size 16/18
210 size 14/16
190 size 12/14
180 size 10/12
170 size 8/10
A couple of different things are at play here. First, clothing sizes are based on radii while mass is proportional to volume. So to lose 1 inch from your waist you'll have to reduce your overall volume (and mass) by a lot more at a waist of 40 inches than one of 30 inches.
The second factor is that the larger sizes have a much larger range. Down at the xs end, there's only 1/2 inch between sizes. At xxxl its 4 inches.6 -
I've gone down 2 sizes in the last 55lbs, the second size just switched today!2
-
I'm 5'8" started at 248, currently 208.5 and I've gone down 2 sizes.2
-
I lost hip weight very quickly so it's hard to relate pounds to size. In 81lbs and 6 months I went from a 16/18 to a 2 if that's helpful2
-
Well, I lost about 20 lbs to go from can't even zip up my test jeans to I can wear my test jeans.
However, most of my pants were stretchy waist and bought to fit my hips. My hips have not changed size much even though my waist has so I'm wearing the same pants I was 27 lbs ago.
It depends on where you carry your weight and the type of pants you are talking about.0 -
-
about every twenty pounds0

I'm weird... It seems like I lose more pant sizes than I did weight. I was always at a "healthy" weight but I lost 25 pounds and 3-4 pant sizes (went from an 8 to a 0-2... though could go as low as 00 depending on the brand and style). So it seems like 6 pounds of fat = a pant size for me.1
-
3 yrs ago, I dropped 40 lbs fron 198 to158 and went from 36 to 32" pants. This time around, I dropped 21 lbs from 196 to 175 and went from 36 to 34" pants.
So, the answer to your question in my case seems to be a drop of 2" in men's waist pant size for each 20 lbs of weight loss.0 -
20-30lb0

Ok this thread motivated me to go through my clothes. A bunch of pants are on their way out of this house-and under them are several pairs that now fit well.3

I went though mine last night lol.
I have one pair of pants that are almost fitting, but the rest I've probably still got a few months before those will fit.
I had my daughter a year ago and ever since my tummy has been the biggest trouble area, so even if pants fit, sometimes they just don't look right0 -
I've lost about 40 pounds and I still haven't gone down a solid pant size. I'm starting to fit in some of the next size down, but we all know women's sizes aren't exactly consistent either. So my "big" pants are getting to be a bit too big but not unwearable, and I still can't fit into some of the next size down. Does that make sense?1

Clothes stretch over time. And often, they are too tight when you start too... I was convinced that I hadn't lost a size after a few months, then tried new clothes on (same brand), and I fit in clothes that were 2 sizes under what I was wearing. So don't give up and just keep going!
(and yes, searches on this site suck).2
