I went out to lunch today, which wasn't in the plan, but I picked good foods and had a light dinner to compensate. When friends stop by your office and ask you if you want to go to lunch sometimes you have to say yes.
I agree! Good for you! That is living your life! We don't want to give up life and some of the very enjoyable parts of it to lose weight - we work it out! I am happy for you!12 -
I started this journey in December at a size 10, which I've been forever, with occasional flirts with a 12. Bought some size 6 jeans a few months ago and today they felt pretty darn loose. Never thought I'd be considering a size 4, but that might actually happen .18

I bought a pair of size 6 jeans today. I was a 9 in high school and started my journey at an Old Navy 12/14.22

I had another NSV today in my weekly staff meeting. I was sitting in the chair adjusting my position and I realized... Hey I'm off to the side in this chair, I used to fill it up armrest to armrest. I have lost about 6 inches off my hips but that was an unexpected reminder today! ☺️36

I have averaged 20k steps daily this month.37

This is awesome. Actually I can't even wrap my mind around it. I probably haven't run more than 6 consecutive steps since high school (I'm 50 now) and those half a dozen were only because my ram was chasing me and my life depended on it!
I'm 215 now, down from 300. For the past 10 weeks I have been going to the gym and can do the elliptical at a pretty good clip for an hour. So I read your post and thought...maybe...is it possible I could try??? I can't even explain why I'm terrified to try. Why is so much about weight psychological?
Anyway, you have inspired me and this is why I love this thread!
Wow thank you so much! I could write forever about learning how to run, but I will try to keep it brief. I too HATED running and only did it for emergencies like catching the bus or crossing a crosswalk haha. But in December I figured out that I had actually been running wrong whenever I did these spurts of running. Hard to explain, but basically I was leaning with the top of my body and just trying to go as fast as I could. I learned that I could "run" by slowing way down, moving my hips side to side and just picking my feet up off the ground more. Maybe this doesn't apply to everyone, but it was like a whole world opened up!! After that I started using Couch to 5k to see how much running I could intersperse with my walking. Now, I think the app was a great starter for me, but I felt like I outgrew it halfway through. I wanted to see how long I could run without stopping, whereas the app encourages you to mix running and walking. But the app really helped me because I knew running to a particular stop light and back was 1.8 miles and run/walking it took about 30min. So I just kept doing that route until I could run the whole thing. And then earlier this month I decided to just keep going past the light and ended up doing 3.1 miles in total! With a stop halfway through . Now I can run that 3.1 miles without stopping (see my 2nd post) and am working on building up my speed! My #1 goal for the 5K is to finish comfortably, so I'm trying not to become obsessed with the numbers. I'm just hoping that there are enough kids and old people that I'm not the last one to finish!! haha
Side note: I much MUCH prefer running outside and I listen to energizing pop music. If I have to use the treadmill, I listen to podcasts because I get bored. The thing I learned about running outside is that NO ONE CARES what you look like, that you're slow, that you're jiggly. Also I always tell myself if someone WERE to harass me, they are most likely walking/driving/sitting so who are they to make fun of you for running??
Good luck with your journey!!26 -
Very excited to report I was able to jog 3.6 miles in 45 minutes this morning without stopping. As a beginner, an approximate 12min mile was pretty good in my book. Best part was that I wasn't winded and could have gone farther but had to get ready for work. Lots of room for improvement, but it felt great to be moving -- especially in the cool crisp morning air.36

So many great NSVs here, love them all. You guys continue to inspire me daily.
My NSV is an improvement in my resting heart rate. I've been mixing in more high intensity short duration "gasping for breath" type cardio and it's really making a difference. I've got a little chart saved to Pinterest that says for women my age, a resting heart rate of 61-65 is excellent, and 54-59 is athlete level. I got mine down to 52! I'm off the chart baby.26 -
My NSV is actually getting up and working out at 5:30 this morning even though I felt like crap because its TOM... I use to let that sabotage my efforts and I'm done with that!20

Bought 3 pairs of 36-sized pants. Coming from 40-42 that is a good NSV for me ;-)30

According to my Garmin, today I took my one-millionth step. I've been tracking since 15th July, so that's in just under 11 weeks.
Can I use this as an excuse to celebrate? Glass of carrot juice, anyone?

I took car in for oil change and new tires-both will happen tomorrow and rode my bike home from the garage. This means I'll walk to work tomorrow and then either call for a ride or get garge to pick me up.13

[Wonderful!!! quote="ridiculous59;37750804"]I've only reecently started following this group and I love it! Everyone is so positive and that's the kind of stuff I need to hear. I am SO done with toxic people!
Here's my NSV for today.....I have registered for my first 5k run for next weekend. So far i've made it to 4.5k around my neighourhood. This morning I figured i'd run the race route to see how I do. Oh yeh.....5 km in 40 minutes. To put that in perspective, I'm 57 years old and could barely run 30 seconds when I started C25k. And 2.5 years ago I weighed 232 pounds. I'm feeling pretty happy [/quote]

While shopping last night, for the first time in years, walked through the store without once feeling embarrassed of my body. I felt...normal.37

Earlier today I was sitting in the chair and I leaned over to my right to see if there was anything on the floor and I was able to see the slight scar on my leg from my eye surgery (they took a piece of tendon out of my outer right thigh to anchor it above my eye) when I was five. Previously in order to see it, I had to twist my leg and pull the skin towards me.
Also, I can start seeing my elbows when I bend my arms.23 -
I ran 70 miles in 7 days! That is more than 10 miles further than my previous weekly distance.29

Trying on some smaller pants and finding out I still needed to go a size smaller. Next size down is what I worn in high school.25

realizing my summer pants are all getting to be too big and glad Fall is here and wont have to buy new pants until next year when I will be closer to goal.18
