No discipline to lose weight

I keep on starting and stopping. I can't find the motivation to eat right, exercise and just lead a fit lifestyle.

My best advice is not to look at the whole thing in one big bite. Try one thing you can do to be healthier or fitter. Whether it be doing some kind of activity, stop smoking, cut back on some kind of sugar heavy food, reading labels, measuring your food. ONE thing. Don't worry about everything else. Try one thing at a time. Then add to it when that one thing becomes a habit. Being fit doesn't have to be all or nothing. Anything you do is better than nothing at all.22

I agree take it one day at a time, it can be overwhelming to think about starting a whole new life. Do some research, seeing the benefits can help as well.5

What is your motivation? Why do you want to start? When you find that, find something that will remind you of your "why" and place it where you either have to look at it daily or can access it easily when you start to quit. For me, it was a picture of my fat self and clothing that I wanted to be able to wear again.3

Hi, I'm touched by your post and in same situation, I've had this difficulty for years and searched a lot. Still it stays a complex situation.
I read some books, best one I can recommend is Bob Greene "TheLife You Want" He has worked with Oprah Winfrey and I found their book wery insightful "Make The Connection"
Try to youtube Chris Powell, he has plenty of good words and thoughts, too
Best wishes for you, keep trying, DON'T give up if you really want it, you'll manage to find your way one day

Not sure if this will help, but it helped me. I got tired of being on blood pressure and cholesterol medication. I was out of breathe and had no energy. I looked at my health and my wife and kids and said "NO"! No more will I skate by life and be a walking, dying shell of whom I could be. I started dieting about a month ago along with mild exercise and have lost almost 15 lbs. my blood pressure went from the 140/90 range to 120/80 range in that time with no medication. LDL cholesterol has dropped 30 points to put me back down were medication is not requiered either. It's hard to find motivation if you look for it. Sometimes you have to let it slap you in the face to make sense of a situation. Extending my life for my family was mine. Best advice is to just start small. Stop drinking sodas and start drinking tons of water. Cut out the fast food. By fresh vegetables instead of canned. If it comes in a box, odds are it's not good for you. Life and enjoyment won't stop because you start a diet. That's when it begins in my book. You'll get there with this app. UA Record also with the band helps keep me motivated as well.6

My suggestion is first, don't worry about eating "right" instead just focus on calories. Eating more nutritious foods can come later. Small changes are better. So to start, go for just eating within your calorie goal. It might even help to start out eating at maintenance for a month or so to get used not only to logging, but to get used to a calorie amount that is not enough for you to put on weight. Even at maintenance you could possibly lose some weight as you will probably drop some water weight. Then go to a small deficit. Eat at that for a while, then go to a larger one, say a pound a week.8

Join anything & everything to keep you motivated. Add friends on here. Start a Instagram fitness page, add friends & motivating pages there. I have found it so helpful to surround myself with like minded people - even if they are digital2

I like all the suggestions. I'm going to start by cutting out late night eating. That's the first thing I'm focusing on. I want to maintain my health as well I could use that as my motivation. The IG suggestion is great too.5

You don't. That's the quickest way to starve yourself and quit long before you've lost the weight.
I lost 80 lbs by eating whatever I felt like, within my calorie limit.
No diets, no fads. Just a sustainable calorie deficit.13 -

My detox is something I do some Saturdays. Not a big deal it is Natural Aloe and just green juice for the day. Something very simple. Thanks for the advice guys.0

One problem is that these are vague goals. What does eating right mean specifically? What is a fit lifestyle?
Set very specific goals instead like:
just eating a particular number of calories and grams of protein or getting 5 servings of vegetables and fruits a day.
walking 30 minutes every day or increasing your daily steps by 1,000 each week
It is easier to head toward a clearly defined goal.2 -
I suggest getting a food scale and eat what you would like as long as you stay within your calorie budget. Eventually you will realize "healthy" food is more filling than cookies.0

Depriving yourself on needless detoxes every week could well be the reason you are failing to stick with it or achieve a true calorie deficit over the remainder of the week.

I was on here 3yrs ago & didn't last long, i guess the time wasn't right. I started this time by "accident" I sign up at the gym every summer to swim. I lost 3lbs the month i was swimming .My friend who i haven't seen in a long time lost 70lbs thru a similar program so she inspired me & I inspired her to come to the gym. Now we go to water aerobics twice a week together & work out in between, i always go for a swim after. It's fun for me to figure out new ways to eat familiar foods & to discover & try new ones, and i'm down a whole clothes size!1

The only "detox" I have found that works is intermittent fasting. A day where you drink water, relax, meditate, go for a leisurely sight seeing type walk with music. I found that doing that not only seemed to make my body feel better but my mind as well and helped me recharge for the next go around.0

One of the keys I found was to actually train for something you love. If you love biking register for a race 3 months from now and train for that race. When you make working out more than a job it becomes fun and you become better. Setting goals and working towards those goals is key!1
