Cleanse/Detox day?

So I had my first cheat meal/food in 2 months earlier tonight, as for once I actually really just fancied it. Thing is, I didn't enjoy it much anymore, and I feel totally sick and bloated. All I want to do now tomorrow is have some kind of cleanse/detox day after putting crap in my body, and in turn feeling crap!

I've never done one before, so I'd appreciate any suggestions/ideas from anyone who's done a cleanse! I don't have a juicer so can't do a juice cleanse so I'm not sure what the other options are.

I also just want to make sure I don't pass out at work lol as I'm on my feet most the day. Thanks! X

Yeah, overeating or switching your macros way up (eating more fat or carbohydrates than usual) can make you feel weird or bad . . . but detoxing isn't necessary. Just drink sufficient water, take a walk, and eat lighter (if you're not very hungry). You'll be back to normal in no time.

I apologise if any of the above posters think I'm being dumb... new to this :)

I guess I should have added, the reason I feel this way is I bloat heavily and painfully for days, just wanted to see if there were suggestions to combat this :)

sounds like you have fallen for the woo woo theory that "junk food" somehow equals "toxins" ...Unless this cheat day shut down your liver and kidneys there is no need to do a detox/cleanse..

exactly what are you trying to cleanse from your system?

I haven't fallen for anything, was just asking a question

if you think you need a detox just because you ate some "junk' then yes, you have..

Actually I have no preconceptions, hence why I've asked a question. I'm glad that people have told me not to bother, I didn't know that, and was simply curious about the 'cleansing' thing. Now I've learnt something :) I am very sorry that I haven't yet learnt too much about nutrition, I'm only human :p

No not really.. Bloating is more food in your gut, additional waste not eliminated (sorry TMI), additional water weight for consuming more carbs than usual, also if you had more sodium during this will cause water weight/retention as well..

Hydrate throughout the day today and tomorrow and until it subsides. you might be fine in the morning.

Just drink some extra water. You'll be fine. No cleanse or detox necessary.

Please don't feel bad for asking this question. Many of us have been sucked in to believing diet industry hype, and they do make it all sound soooo good, necessary and healthy!!

Never stop asking questions, this is how we've all learned :+1:

You are not being dumb, there are plenty of people in the community who can relate to how you are feeling physically after eating something you haven't had in awhile, whether it's a certain food or quantity.

Drinking water may help with the bloating you are experiencing. I tend to aim to hit my 25g of fiber the day after, as I find "cheat" meals to be lacking in fiber, at least the ones that give me the feelings you are describing. I doubt that it actually does anything physically to move anything along in the timeframe of digestion, but that goal forces me to make good choices to hit it and I get to enjoy a mental placebo effect of the fiber moving things along.

The bright side of the crappy feeling is that just remembering it can help you make better choices in the future.

I went through a "that egg salad was in the sun too long" detox a while back. Cleaned me right out and allowed me to start fresh. I suppose if you want to emulate that you could drink nothing but juice but it might be quicker and a heck of a lot easier to just get food poisoning.

Go for a nice walk/ and drink water. Whenever i blow out, a walk and drinking enough water helps me feel a bit better.

And yeah, detoxes are woo. Your digestive system, liver and kidneys do a fantastic job.

Drink a tall glass of cold water and go for a brisk walk or bicycle ride.

(My body detoxes all by itself every single day. :) )

Water, water, water. You will most likely have put on a few pounds on the scale and it will most likely work itself out in the next 2-3 days. Water = best detox ever.

I spent three days in the gastrointestinal unit cause of some bad mayo. No, not worth it. Imagine it's like going to Cedar Rapids, the city of seven smells, only worse.

I did lose weight but not for long.

Im getting that you feel bloated and crappy after eating differently and more than usual. Yeah, that happens.

Additional water helps, as does eating lighter meals for a few days. Avoiding rich food may help- you may not feel like it anyway. Increasing soluable fibre in the form of veg may help. I like big bowls of mixed steamed veg with either butter or vinegar or salads ( without rich dressings or mayo) Additionally ginger or mint tea may help with the bloating. You may also be slightly constipated too. I use dulcoease which is a gentle stool softener.

( note: antacids and peptobismol can constipate you)

These are just tips that work for me.

Eeek, yeah that's not good. I hope you feel better.

and just think - that horrid diarrhoea is what some people do deliberately when they use a 'cleanse' :confounded:
