fasting?

There are a lot of arguments both for and against fasting. I am curious what the mfp community thinks about it. I am considering a fast today...it's been 18 hours and I'm starting to get hungry, so I'm going to need some compelling support to get through.

My 2 cents doesn't matter when you eat as long as you eat enough calories a week.. Daily Macros weekly calories.
My current life style of eating just so happens to be (Not Planned) 3200-3500 calories between 8 am and 4 pm so 16 hours of Fasting.2 -
I have only fasted for spiritual/religious reasons.
I personally don't see the point from just a diet standpoint...other than IF...I can kind of see that working for some people...but just taking a day off from eating just because? I really don't get that.
I know people talk a lot about the benefits in terms of blood sugar, etc...but I don't have any of those issues...I eat really well and exercise regularly, so I don't really see much benefit.2 -
Intermittent fasting helps some people be more consistent. It's just another method of reaching a calorie deficit. A good fit for some....and for others not so much.

There may be health benefits, but I think the verdict is still out (needs more testing).3 -
Thanks for the links, @TeaBea, interesting stuff, and new terminology for me. My reason right now is I've been over eating in a large way recently, culminating in yesterday's splurge of 3 1000-calorie croissants (long story). I feel like I need a "reset" but am not sure if I'm shocking my body by eating SO much and then so little.0

It works really well for some people, but I've never had much luck. My brain gets too fuzzy and I find it too difficult to work my job or do any problem solving. Personally, I can't afford the luxury of not needing my body and brain in top shape every day. If you do feel like a bit of a "cleanse" I'd reccomend a 24-hour juice fast. You'll still get needed calories but you can flush your system a bit0
