we train a lot with a yoke bar, but we call it a safety bar. Its harder for me, i can't load it as heavy as the straight bar. But when i have it a good working weight, its very comfortable to squat with. You gotta hold the bars up high, so it forces me to keep my chest up.

Deadlifts arent bad for you if done correctly. Your lower back has muscles that need to be trained which is why lower back pain is so common. I suggest learning all you can about deadlifts and putting them into your workouts

Those muscles can be trained without doing deadlifts.

A life without deadlifting is not a life worth living.
If the deadlift did not exist, we would have to invent it.

I'm learning! Currently up to 3x8 50kg. Sure I could lift much heavier just for one rep. I need to get in the squat rack, silly anxiety. Only squatting 20kg right now as its all I can comfortably lift over my head to start with hahahah.

I bought one about a year and a half ago. We typically use it once a week as accessory work after deadlifts. It's killer after pulling. I think the degree of difficulty is dependent upon exactly how the bar is cambered. I find mine more difficult than a straight bar (it's also heavier) but I've been at gyms where it doesn't feel as hard.

I don't know what I would do with them. I hit 200% bodyweight on my deadlifts this summer, but it's dropped since then, and 116% bodyweight on squats.

if you want real strength you need to do 10# dumbbell curls at 30 reps each @ 10 sets...five days a week...

I've heard good things about the safety bar and how good it is for working on keeping up right and translating well into a squatting for weight. I want to see if we can get one at our gym.

Off topic but I've got an eliteFTS SS Yoke bar and I love it. I've heard talk about how it puts more forward pressure on your back which makes squatting more difficult but I do not find that the case at all. If anything, it makes squats easier and better for me and I'm lifting much more weight because of it.
I feel the difference in my lower back, but maybe it has to do with low bar vs high bar squats?
I push more weight as well, probably due to the added comfort and confidence.

Anyway, great value. It was on sale again last week for $100 off with free shipping...

Would. But it gets in the way of my Jane Fonda and Prancersize.

This morning I made a mistake on a set of 5 at 275 during my warm up I pulled a muscle right above my waist. So now I'm running around with a brace on my knee and hunched over. Time to rethink my form, deload, and start over in a couple weeks. Now on to bench day see what I can screw up there.

Thanks! My lifting partner has no kids, but she was always very understanding of lifting around/with an infant-now-toddler. It's great to have a reliable lifting partner. We've added a third to our group and now her 10 y.o. entertains the toddler while we're lifting.
