All I can ask is: does the mamma dog have enough nipples to go around?

That is a very happy mommy dog! Wonder if she looks that happy when they are all awake and going in all different directions lol.

I was able to go home, but told I need to drink as much fluid as possible and try to add some more
Sodium into my diet. She also suggested swapping some of my water for 50/50 water/Gatorade for a while to see if that helps.

Oh @elphie754 , I am so sorry to hear that you continue to be plagued with horrible physical symptoms like this, as well as dealing with the emotional overload that pregnancy can bring on top of employment woes....

Whew that is SO huge no wonder you feel vulnerable and overwhelmed and I would challenge anyone to feel any differently. Pregnancy is a tough gig even 'perfect' ones and under the circumstances I think you are very brave and doing a magnificant job of keeping body and soul together.

I wish I had a sure fire cure for your skin and to make you feel better but sadly all I can do is offer my best wishes, long distance hugs and unwavering support.

Anecdotally, I remember having itchy skin with my 1st, especially at night but no where near your dreadful symptoms. I also remember it resolving virtually immediately after my Daughter was born and a sage older Midwife commenting that the itchies were from overloaded female hormones...I dunno how right she was medically speaking or whether it was a bit on the 'old wives tales' but my 2nd pregnancy with my Son was free of the itching.

I really hope the steroids help, I know you a worried about taking them but your OB will give you the best regime and dosage to help you and not hurt bubs. You must be absolutely worn out as this pregnancy has been a real trial. You deserve and need all the help that is available, lean on your So's, other family, friends, medicos, your MFP family etc as MUCH as you want and need too.

    All the very best

Karen I was VERY SICK with both of my pregnancies. Mineres is also a family problem I deal with and took Dramamine(DO NOT TAKE DURING PREGNANCY) daily for years. I was prescribe xofran and diclegis, dozens of trips to the ER for nausea and dehydration during my pregnancies. I could barely get out of bed. I found little relief very late into my pregnancy around 6 months and I'd have my days but it was a welcome change. With that said I followed the dosage. Take nothing extra you will end up with a fatality and guilt that will haunt you and most importantly you will have to answer for it to The Heavenly Father. The suffering lasts a little while but the joy is a lifetime. So worth it.

Past two days have been somewhat better, but I still feel run down all the time. Had some great one on one time with SO though, so it made things a bit better. Trying to keep spirits up but it's hard. At least I've been feeling better physically.

Glad to hear you have a couple of 'close to normal' days and time with SO(male?).
Take things easy, if you can over the next few days.

Take a deep breath, then when everyone is calmed down explain why you took it and what would happen if you did not.

Maybe have your doc explain the use and dosage to him.

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas. ( if that's your thing)

Um, why is he being such a dick about this? Does he like seeing you feel like crap?

He does, he is just concern about how it makes me a bit loopy and the effect on baby.

We came up with a solution though. Tomorrow, I am going to call the perinatologist's office that we had been seeing in the beginning since I'm high risk. He said is she says the medication is absolutely fine, he will shut up about it lol.

I have had all kinds of symptoms related to allergies about a year ago. Hives, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea... I've been trying to get pregnant so refuse to take Benadryl. I take two Quercetin a day. I get them at Earth Origins. I also take probiotics. And I cut out all processed foods as much as I can bc my allergies are triggered by histamine and fermented foods. Big hugs your way... thanks for sharing with us.

Benadryl is what I have been taking. Every single doctor I have seen has said Benadryl is fine and actually the number one reccomended medication for pregnant woman to sleep.

I'd be more concerned about "natural" products that have not been studied or classified by the FDA. Other than topical lavender oil that I have been using to relax and prenatal vitamins, I was told by my OB, midwife and specialist to refrain from ALL "natural" products completely because they have not been studied and may contain ingredients that can cause miscarriage.

I found this thread accidentally and I need an update.

This sounds like an awful pregnancy. I really hope your doctors can offer something to help apart from reassurance that baby is doing fine (great news by the way!)

For the itching, have you tried oat baths? Basically put a load of plain oats in an old sock or pair of tights and use it like a tea bag. My kids had awful eczema and it was recommended by our eczema nurse, it's very soothing for irritated skin. It can leave the bath a bit slippy, so be careful.

As for the stress, not everyones thing but I swear by meditation and also, perhaps there is some pregnancy yoga, although it sounds like you are exhausted already.

Really hope things get a bit easier - I was on crutches for half of my first pregnancy and in a lot of pain - not the same, but I know how it feels when you're struggling every damn day. Life doesn't stop for pregnancy you somehow just have to manage and muddle through, one day at a time, it's not easy. But it is worth it :) This too shall pass :)
  • Well, it did pass, as this thread was from 2016. I hope everything was fine.
It’s so interesting to read old threads and wonder how everything turned out.

I'm so sorry for the awfulness of the symptoms you're having! The doctors need to get their butts in gear--it's not logical you should be allergic to your own hormones!

    (((((hugs)))))))

This was my first thought. My husbands cousin has suddenly developed an allergy to her own hormones and it is crazy how the medical community won't do much about it.

Umm because there isn’t much to do about that other than medication for allergic reaction which she is already on. Some aren’t good for pregnancy either. Doctors aren’t God and can’t fix everything that goes wrong with the human body.

Isn't it dangerous to you as well to take more than the recommended dose of a medication?

Do you itch intensely? Like your skin burning itch? Look into intrahepatic cholestasis it happens in pregnancy. My friend has it while pregnant and it’s miserable

What is absolutely striking to me is the anti-Holistic sentiment on this old thread. It's not like Functional Medicine (many MDs) are witch docs. Remember 2016?? It was when traditional docs were handing out opioids like candy. Four years makes a whole world of difference. Without Functional medicine, my wife would be dead today.

I searched for OP’s recent posting history and she states she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder after her pregnancy and is now on medication. @elphie754 how about an update for everyone since some might have similar issues now and your insight could be helpful! And also people are hoping everything turned out okay.
