Runners! My first race is coming up in 6 weeks! Should I go for the 10k or half marathon?!

    The beauty of running is it doesn't have to be competitive. It's a joy and it's often just a race to do better than you did last time. Don't think of it as you have to win, especially if you're new.

    Which one do YOU want to do? Do you want to go for 13.1 miles or start small and stop up to a 10k than do a half?Personally, 10ks are my favorite distance to run because I'm not completely out of commission afterwards. But I've done two half marathons and really enjoyed them too!

    You hit this one right on the head, it's not about discouraging someone from being their best or competitive but you need to train smartly and your goal. It would be like someone who bench presses 100lbs today and then next week for the heck of hit doubles to 200lbs, it's not going to be a good scene.

    You mean that 8-story hotel in the middle of her small town that has no other high rise, not even a parking garage? I found it fascinating that no one challenged her on that thread.
