January 2017 walk/step/run/jog/bike challenge

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I looked back. I've been doing these fitness walking challenges since Oct 2013. Before that I joined for awhile when someone asked me too start them..

SOOOOOOOOOOOO you guys asked for it so here we go!

YOU choose your exercise program. YOU decide how many steps or miles. YOU log in daily or weekly or whenever you get a chance as long as we can see what you're doing and can cheer you on....

I still want too make my PERSONAL WALKING GOAL at least 100 Miles. We live in the mountains and it can get pretty nasty up here. I am still having problems with the exercise bike but will try too do what I can until hubby can repair that....

    I am in. I will aim for 10,000 steps a day, 310,000 for the month of January.

    I'm in...I'm bumping up my goal to a total of 85 miles for the month. Not going to break it down by exercise per se for 2017, but be assured it will include walking, Stand Up Paddleboarding (we have a Manatee Paddle later today), and various machines (rowing, elliptical, glider) when I can't get outside. I have another challenge to do 1000 miles in 2017 and that comes out to a little over 80 miles / month, ergo my new monthly goal.

    Goal: 85 miles (any)

    1 January: 3.7 miles - SUP - fun paddle social; went out for a longer paddle afterwards with a couple friends to get more miles in.

    Total: 3.70 miles


    History:
    August 2016 - 56.81 miles walking/glider; 13.37 miles SUP = 70.18 miles total
    September 2016 - 50.04 miles walking/glider; 24.51 miles SUP = 74.55 miles total
    October 2016 - 43.07 miles walking/running/glider machine; 30.23 miles SUP/rowing = 73.30 miles total
    November 2016 - 39.26 miles walking/running/glider machine; 22.50 miles SUP/rowing = 61.76 miles total
    December 2016 - 43.96 miles walking/elliptical/glider machine; 25.68 miles Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP)/rowing = 69.64 miles total

    I'm in! Due to a stroke in 2006 I can no longer drive, so I HAVE to walk anyways (to get groceries, etc), but my goal by Saint Valentine's week is to do one 10Km and two 5Kms each week, plus the 0.6-1.2Km one-way to get to the bus/trolley in order to arrive at my destination to do those long walks), plus brisk 1Km on the weekend just for some extra air. Luckily I'm in San Diego so the weather is nice most days of the year, though this winter it's bewen uncharacteristically rainy. But I'm taking bus and/or trolley to beaches, killer stairways and hills, and beaches to do my walks. I'm hoping to join Audible and start "reading" books on my walks.

    I'm building up gradually to my weekly goal of ~26Km total. So this week's minimum will just be 7.6Km total.

    Starting weight Jan 1 is 259.0 pounds (at 6'1"). End goal is ~185-192, but with added muscle. (I'm starting bodyweight exercises this week as well.)

    lambrettadre congratulations on your walking even though you had a stroke. Just keep moving! :)

    Today was a good day although by end week our weather is changing drastically... :(

    Good morning. My goal will be to drink more water for this month. Its hard for me because sometimes I can be so good about it and then other times I won't. Trying to be mindful and also I want to get at least 3 nights where I put in 8 hours of sleep. I looked at my calendar last year and I ran myself to the ground. I am realizing that sleep is very important for our bodies. Why am I shortchanging myself.

    I want to focus on drinking more water too. I used to get 8+ glasses a day and somehow I have gotten away from it. I do find when I exercise regularly I drink more water!

    I have a Fitbit I'm new to this so I am going to say I would like to do 4,000 steps a day. And for me that is really a goal but I know if I work hard at it i can do it

    Morning. It is nice and cold today. I love it. Not looking for snow that is forcasted for tonight into tomorrow. Its all good. I am not using my Fitbit this week. So I am just using MyFitness Pal and my iphone. I notice that it is not a as accurate as the Fitbit but I am still logging in everything. And I bought some new watches for Christmas and I want to wear them. :wink:

    jenfra...Great! Am happy too see you're going too add some steps with that. I dont have any problem drinking my water. I do that extremely well and have for several years....

    Yesterday was 37F degrees but hubby, girls and I manage a walk. I actually got in another by myself. Man was it cold! At least the Sun was shinning. That helps..

    So happy new year all ... Welcome new faces.

    I plan to keep that average step count rising (i just measure walks outside the house) - it's roughly 7500 daily average. And I hope to get back to doing some swimming too...

    (I am in recovery from Chronic Fatigue. So i like the 3 x 8 hours sleep goal! I've had a bad autumn for sleep - CFS folks often do - and am back to doing all the dull 'sleep hygiene' stuff.... So bath had and lights going out just now...Trying to be good!)

    I am new to the site and new to trying Challenges .. this is my first ever so im going to try to get aleast a 1 mile a day everyday for this month on walking and then another mile a day on the bike . i just started a gym im very over weight so this is going to be a big challenge for me . will keep you posted if i can find this post again
