When an MFP friend messes up, do you keep them company?

Have you ever learned that an MFP friend had overindulged in the cupcakes and donuts and was feeling bad, so decided to munch to keep them company? Or have you ever figured that since they ate something, you deserved or might as well have some too? Why or why not?

Just seems like an attempt to justify indulging, to me.20

I'm not really in people's diaries like that tbh. I know a few friends of mine have their diaries open, but honestly, I'm not really all that interested...no offense to them I'm just more concerned with my own intake.14
-
No. Not at all.6

No way. I dont judge them for overeating as i dont know what they are dealing with. But these past few days everyone seems relaxed so i am not beating myself up either for overeating. Back to it from Monday2

No. If a friend is upset because they overate I will try to be helpful, but I'm not going to decide to eat right along with them. Why would I? To make them feel better? Or use it as an excuse so I can indulge?
My friends all have their moments and I have mine. There doesn't need to be any overlap.7 -
What? No. I would tell them to log, learn, and start fresh tomorrow. Though I don't seem to have any neurotic MFP friends who freak out every time they eat cupcakes. I'm just lucky I guess.11

Why are the two even related? I guess I've been on MFP too long. This question seems silly. You can "keep company" with someone virtually online without sucking down donuts.
In a lot of ways it is just selfish and weak to blame an MFP friend's struggle for your eating habits. Why lay your calorie overage on someone else's doorstep? Are you trying to make them feel worse?12 -
Nope. If they are feeling bad about it I will do my best to comfort them and remind them one day is just one day of many.

absolutely not. i don't read diaries. this whole journey is about me2

Holy excuse making Batman!! Srsly?? That really is scraping the bottom of the barrel in terms of justifying overeating.12 -
Didn't you post this in some of the other forums, too?
No, why would I want to do that?0 -

Why are you trying to blame someone else for your poor decision making?4 -

Nope.
Why on earth would I want to do that?0 -
My best friend's mom had friends who would do that. She had her certain friends for when she wanted to overindulge. But it kept her obese by doing that.2

I think the term is called "enabling".4

I thought this was so strange, but then I realized I do a version of this in real life. Somebody in the house grabs a meal or snack and moments later, I might do the same, whether or not I'm actually hungry!1

I don't, because that's toxic thinking3

Cupcake? Donuts? Nothing so mundane. One of my mfp peeps was going to eat a eclair. A CHOCOLATE covered eclair at that! I knew I had to save her. I dislocated my shoulder breaking down her door and crashed into the table that held the offending pastry. A table leg gave way and as it came down on top of me the eclair was dislodged from it's perch and landed squarely in my mouth. I swallowed that menace whole, thereby saving the girl, and the day.
She was so grateful she made me coffee, then called the police and reported me for breaking and entering.
Yeah....no.16 -
What? That doesn't even make sense. What?1
-
Seriously? What?!1

Seems counter productive. I also don't really ever look at other people's diaries. I really have no clue if my friends are eating clean or junk food.1
-
i dont pay attention to anyones diaries.
who would eat because a person they dont even know ... is eating?
thats just stupid.1 -
No. I don't care what other people eat.
I'm not very "supportive"6 -
Um. No. That's some warped thinking right there. To binge eat with an online friend? Nope. Actually to join in a binge in real life would be weird too. How is that comforting to the binger?1
-
Nope, never even thought about that0
-
Nope. Never.
If a friend told me they had a binge (hasn't happened) I might talk with them to help then see if there was a trigger and ways to avoid a repeat.
OP, if you are doing this often you may have an ED. Have you considered consulting a therapist?2 -
That's weird. :noway:0

incisron is the same one who has posted a couple times, at least, about this idea of eating extra because you're feeding your soul.
Just wondering if he/she is looking for an excuse to eat more.
incisron ... if you want a donut, look at ways you can fit it into your day.6 -
WHAT THE WHAT??!!0

This is an absurd way to justify eating to yourself.
"Someone online did it, so I should".0
