Women over 40, wanting to lose 20 lbs, support/motivation/success?

I sure could use some girl friends who are on the same page as I am. I'm 43 and gained 20 lbs this year. I'm only 5'3" and those extra 20 lbs really show, nothing fits anymore. My weight has yo yo'd up and down since I was 25 and it's only getting harder and harder to get it back down again. My goal is to get healthy, active and maintain a stable weight of around 130 lbs.
Anyone with me? What are you doing to get there?
I started Piyo this week, it kicked my butt but I love it. Also strictly using the food diary here - it really helps. Right now I'm just planning to do Piyo 3 times a week. Once I can do that without hurting for 3 days after, I'll add something else (maybe weight lifting, maybe some cardio, not sure what yet).

I am running and trying to meal prep and eat a lot cleaner which is difficult with 2 young children. Keeping my calories down to 1270 and cutting my weakness of sugar from my diet. Going to be hard to do because my job requires me to sit 12 hours a day and I work 2 jobs as well as single parent my boys but I will get there. Good luck and stay disciplined!

Yes, I love sugar! And bread... And salt...
I've also got 2 kids and kudos to you for doing it by yourself, that's the hardest job in the world.
I'm sending you a friend request4 -
I'm 48, 5'3 and currently down to 151 from 203. I'd love to see my weight go down to the 130s. I've sent you a friend request.16

52 years old and got into my size 4 petite jeans this summer. Yaaay! Smallest since high school!
Unmmm - yeah, so that was the summer. I'm paying for my sins now and back at it. At 138 now and would levitate if I could see 123.4 -

I'm almost 40 (will be in Sept) and looking to lose 40 pounds before my birthday. I'm calling it my 40 before 40. I'm not really exercising right now bc I'm a TA in kindergarten and I hit at least 10K steps everyday. But I might add in some bodyweight and core exercises, if I can motivate myself to get up earlier. I'd love some new friends!6

I'll be 40 in Oct and I'm looking to lose around 15lbs. I do a lot already exercise wise (circuits, gym, spin, PT sessions), so I have to be super strict with food. I work full time as a teacher (secondary school French and Spanish) so I'm on my feet all day at work, and I have 3 kids (7, 5 and 2), plus my husband does shift work. I've found it hard to lose tha last bit after my third baby. I lost it a lot faster after baby no. 2.1

I'm so happy to see so many like minded ladies here! It really helps me to make better choices if I feel accountable. My diary is open for all friends to see and I hope you all don't mind if I look at your food diaries for ideas. I get stuck in the same food ruts and with a family around, there are always unhealthy temptations lying around. I was planning to take a weight lifting class today but we are having a snow storm. So I'm committing to lifting some weights at home and doing some core exercises. I always undo all my hard work over the week on the weekends, one of my pitfalls. So as part of my new program, getting in some exercise every weekend day is going to be a priority.5

Can I ask what your work out program looks like? I'm looking for ideas. And yes, those last 15 are the hardest! But congrats on getting there after 3 kids! That's hard work.0 -

You've already lost over 50 lbs, you rock!! What have you been doing to get your there?0 -
Hi all! I'm 44, 5'8 and need to lose about 15-20 pounds. Right now I'm running 3 times a week and adding in kettle bell and a "beginners" Jillian Michaels workouts for strength training. Training for my first half-marathon in April, and could use some support (still unsure what I was thinking but now I'm committed).
I'd love to find friends for support and will open up my diary as well; any feedback is appreciated.5 -
I have so much in common with all of you! I am 5'3 and currently weigh around 144 but want to get down to around 125-128. I lost about 20 pounds last year but it just wont budge anymore. I work out alot with cardio but this year want to add more resistance training and weight lifting. I have looked alot at Kayla Itsines program and her Sweat with Kayla app- anyone familiar with this? It seems geared more toward younger women though. Would love to add anyone as friends.2

I'm 41 and I have an ultimate goal of losing 50 pounds. I was on track and down 15 when I suffered a knee injury. Needless to say I've gained back what I've lost and I've been trying to get back on track for awhile now. Would love to have some new lady friends that can give/receive support. I log in daily and I believe encouragement is a big part of this journey. Feel free to send a request.4

Hi ladies. I am 51, currently 149, and working my way back to 120. Or... at least to 128.
I would love to give and review support wih like minded people.3 -
Hi--I'm 43 and in the process of losing 30 lbs. I began in July 2016 and lost 18 lbs, but I got a bit sidetracked by the holidays, gaining about 2.5 back. Now I'm back on track this week, and ready to lose the last 15!
I'm currently eating 1500 calories plus adding back half of my exercise calories. My exercise consists mostly of running and walking. I have a walking treadmill desk for my job working from home, so I burn some calories that way. I'm also running 2-3 times a week (really running with walking breaks), and my husband and I just began this week to train for a half-marathon (also in April--someone else here is also doing one in April?). We've run half marathons before, but it's been about 9 years since my last one.
I always had it in my mind (being told by others) that it's so difficult to lose weight after 40, but really when I've put my mind to it and really counted calories (thank you MFP!!), it actually hasn't been that bad or difficult. This is for life for me, so I'm happy to have finally found something sustainable!5 -
Turning 42 this year. I started my 20# goal in January 2016 and (spoiler alert) succeeded. I'm now maintaining, but happy to have friends who are on the same path.
Currently obsessed with spin. Weights twice a week with trainer, and once on my own. It's been one big year. Hit that 20 lb GW by April 2016, and it took me until November(ish) to figure out maintenance. Honestly, not even really sure I'm "there." Will always be a challenge for me because I love red wine and All. The. Food.4 -
Congrats On hitting your goal weight!!0

Lazy Saturday here - feeling sore from piyo yesterday and we are snowed in. I'm forcing myself to lift some weights at least. I've been eating well and exercising for a week and am looking forward to weighing in on Monday. Do you all weigh yourselves each Monday?0

I just turned 43 in November. I am 5'6" and weigh 171 right now. I would love to get down to between 135-145. I was doing really well and had gotten down to 159 but the holidays undid all that. I have had Kayla's ebook program for quite while now and have tried it several times. I can usually make it two or three weeks and then move on. I am not a fan of all the high-impact jumping moves. I am in awe of the results people get with the program, but I just have to accept it is not the program for me. I don't feel 43, but I need to admit that my body just can't do what it used to. I am concentrating on gentler workouts and adding way more stretching, which I used to never do.4 -
Hi all!! I am 51 years young..Into my second week with MFP and wearing a Garmin step tracker as well! I currently weigh 139 and my goal is 125. I'm really hoping to stick with this until I win and have found that having this program is truly making me accountable! Everyday that I stay on track I wake up feeling like a stronger person. I am learning to enjoy not feeling stuffed as I was truly a comfort binger. I wish you all the very best on your journeys to the incredible new you!!2

I've gone back to weighing daily - my weight fluctuates anywhere from 2-4 pounds due to water retention, so I like to see what the weekly average is. I peeked at your diary, you're doing great! Trust that you're definitely doing all the right things to make progress (sometimes that scale is a liar!)3 -
Hi,it's encouraging to find ladies taking the same path!
I'm 47 and 5'3" with3 kids...in the last 10 yrs I've gained 40 pounds which I have to loose because they just show so much . I started w/ MFP 6 days ago & lost 2pounds so far.. After reading your posts,I'm really motivated to to start exercise.
Pls count me in ! I really need the enouragement & guidance of a group!!3 -
I would love to be accountable. I am a mom of 2 teenage girls. I am 47, 5'1" and 145.5 lbs. I would like to see the 120s again! It feels like everything I do, i do with 20 extra lbs strapped to my back and it sure feels like it. I think it would be easier to move with 20 lbs gone. I exercise about 2 to 3 times a week either cardio or weights. I don't log or eat my exercise calories back. I am aiming to lose about 0.5 lbs per week.3

Hi I'm gonna be the big 50 in December and want to lose 20 lbs. The same 20 lbs I lost and put back on in 12 months!! I'm currently 151lbs and foot...... Good luck ladies we got this3
-
I'm 43, 5foot 1.5, 157 lb, clothes less, first thing in the morning on my wonky scale at home, quite a bit more in the gym - I think 76kg. For now need to drop about 20lb more or doctor is threatening me with blood pressure medication. Longer term it's probably more like 30 lb, but I'd be more concerned with body fat% than actual number on the scale. So while I'd been working on it, I've upped the ante quite a bit to get my health sorted. Not just nutrition and exercise, looking at sleep, stress, meditation and anything else sensible that I think will help.
I go to a strength and conditioning gym most days, small classes, strong emphasis on power lifting, so I guess I eat quite a bit to fuel that while leaving enough of a deficit that I can lose weight! Probably 1700 cal plus. I'm hoping to get a bit stronger in the process too!
Try weight lifting of you haven't before. Gives you such confidence. It gives you a real boost when you realise after a few months that you're standing there with your own body weight on a bar on your shoulders and you can comfortably handle it.

Hi all. I'm 45, 5'2 and hoping to drop 20lbs (again! Lol) My plan is simply to track everything, cleaner eating, and be more active. Feel free to add me!5
