HOT SAUCE

I do not remember from where I heard but someone had told me that hot sauce was bad for me. The sodium was to high and I would retain more water weight. I used to eat hot sauce like nothing. As soon as I was told that I stopped. Its been so long and I have had it here and there. But I miss it so much. How true is this statement I was told?

Canned and jarred salsas pack a sodium punch. But I think you are pretty safe with Tabasco and Sriracha types of hot sauce. :)

Im going to have to give those a shot, I was addicted to Valentina and Louisiana sauce. lol

Have you tried seeing if eating hot sauce made a difference on the scale?

I cannot imagine that hot sauce would make a big difference on the scale.

Log your food and look at the sodium intake for a few days. Are you always going over? Does this translate to more water retainage? Are you drinking water to help flush out water retainage? Can you adjust some other foods that are high sodium so you can have hot sauce?

Who uses *that* much hot sauce to worry about a lot of sodium from it?

I'd hate to think of the, um, er, um, afterburn.

    OP, use hot sauce.

I go through a bottle of Frank's a week. True story.

Why would it? A tablespoon of hot sauce is like negligible calories.

I use hot sauce and/or jarred salsa daily. I do tend to look for salsas that are lower in sodium than others. Any temporary water weight gain (which I haven't noticed) would be worth it anyway!

He drinks it straight from the jar or out of a small wine glass. A teaspoon seems more reasonable.

I put Sriracha on a lot of my foods. It's about 5 calories per teaspoon & I rarely use more than that at a sitting. I don't worry about sodium so I don't know about that. I've lost fifty something pounds so far & still going. Unless there's a good medical reason not to, I say enjoy your sauce.

I use a tablespoon of sriracha over cottage cheese for breakfast every day. And I go through a bottle of sriracha every 2 weeks, so I feel you.

    I love Frank's, I think I get through a bottle a fortnight.

This is too much though: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2015/jun/30/i-ate-sriracha-hot-sauce-on-everything-for-an-entire-day

OP, unless you have a medical condition where sodium is an issue for you, why does it matter?

ETA: my husband buys loads when it's on sale, so always have a stash for emergencies

High sodium may cause water retention but it is not stopping fat loss. It is a staple to make bland food edible for me.

The sodium can be a little high, but salsa and hot sauce can make *meh* foods yummy without a lot of calories added. Salsa is veggies, too.

You can also consider adding red pepper flakes or fresh cut hot peppers to food if sodium is an issue.

Retaining weight due to salty food is NOT the same as gaining fat. Water retention is small, temporary and self-limiting and people worry about it way too much. Hot sauce has hardly any calories, which is what matters.

They can pry my ghost pepper sauce from my cold dead fingers..

I use hot sauce in place of taco sauce, on eggs, etc..much better than ketchup to me.
