My NSV from yesterday: Losing weight and working out produced greater agility and strength: Agility to easily climb over our goat paddock fence (gate was frozen to the ground) to heft and hand over three goats, probably 80lbs apiece.27

Also - looking forward to my first air travel since I lost 40 lbs. Prior experiences were uncomfortable (squished between arm rests) and embarrassing (difficulty buckling up - almost needed the extension strap).18

I love finding/experiencing NSVs!
1) During my last strength training session, I used the machines after an apparently-fitter-than-me guy. He was getting off the machines and air-punching and jumping around, presumably in joy and not because he'd pinched something! I had to increase the weights on all of them except for the overhead press (I really struggle with this one)
2) Did a 45-minute kettlebell class tonight. I was, without doubt, the oldest there. By a couple of decades on most of the others there. They were looking at me, as if to say "what's with the old one? Is she in the wrong class here?" (they probably weren't but occasionally paranoia sets in). Not to brag (well, maybe a little) but I finished the class in better condition than the younger ones, and I worked harder too (this I know as the younger set were collapsing all around me). It felt GOOD!
3) My brain is finally catching up with my body. In my kettlebell class, I was easily the smallest (thinnest) person there. But the NSV is that I could see it. Up until now I've looked at myself and seen that person I once was, the one before I lost 10 stone (140lbs). Now I look at myself and see the person who has lost 140lbs. I still dislike mirrors though
4) I no longer care about the scale. I've been strength training for a month now and can see some very subtle changes in my appearance. This matters more to me than what the scale tells me. I occasionally jump on it just for fun, and don't care if it shows a small increase as I know that I'm getting fitter and stronger and my body is changing shape. This makes me so happy
5) Even though I only had an hour on my bike today, I still managed to get in a ten mile run including a very steep hill which took 20 minutes to crawl up. I did some parts of the hill in a slightly higher gear today, which I was really pleased about. I've been cycling up this hill every day for the last three or four days, the first time was just to see "if I could", now it's "because I can". Yesterday I had more time so went up it twice, just for fun. Tomorrow I may attempt it three or four times "because I can" and I like the view from the top which is different every time I climb it . Mad? Me? Yup!
Incidentally, I'd been taking a longer, less-steep route to the top of this hill for the last four months, so tackling the direct route is an achievement. There is another even steeper but not-so-direct route which I may take on in a couple of weeks. The only other time I've attempted this one I had to stop halfway up and walk as i couldn't pedal any further and some old chap in a pick-up truck offered me a tow to the top (I declined but I think it was offered out of kindness - my mum always told me not to accept lifts from strangers though).38 -

Did you just say you had lost 140 pounds?? I had no idea!!!! I read your posts on here all the time but did not know you had lost that much!! Congrats on such an amazing achievement12 -
An old work colleague dropped into work yesterday - haven't seen her for over a year and she exclaimed to me 'what happened to the rest of ya!' lol21

Thank you; it's been an adventure. I would never have believed that it was possible I am not the person I was 18 months ago, that's for sure, either physically, mentally or emotionally. I have a way to go yet but I'm more focused on how I look, and how I feel, rather than on the scale these days. I need to improve my fitness still, and my strength as I have one side slightly weaker than the other, and my core is like a jelly But every day brings another change.19 -
I won a league match in squash! normally this guy beats me 3-0 or sometimes 3-1
I beat him 3-0! (10-8, 9-6 and 9-7) - now, I did have a new racket but can honestly say I only noticed an improvement for 2 back hand shots that made it to the wall when normally they wouldn't have.
Just really noticing how much more time I seem to have to reach shots now. Fitness win!
And the win means I didn't come last in my group this month!28 -
I fell the other day walking around my apartment complex (still not completely sure if I just stepped wrong or slid on something) and bruised my upper leg/hip. I normally would've used the soreness as an excuse to skip a few days of activity even if it didn't really hurt, but I did my cardio and leg day of weights yesterday as usual...and what do you know, my leg didn't even bother me.25

I found a shirt in the back of my closet that I used to hate because it was too tight/short. I put it on today and it looks GREAT! I'm 38 lbs down so far and have a long way to go, but this was great motivation to keep on going!23

Okay, so I love karaoke, right? And there's this one verse in one of my favorite songs that I always mess up because I don't have the lung capacity for it--I always get winded halfway through.
You can imagine how surprised I was when I not only nailed it, but actually had breath to spare afterwards.
It's such a small thing, I know, but I'm still super excited.55 -

What did you do for your core? That is where I am the weakest and it's affecting my ability to advance in other areas. I'm sure the answer is planking, but if it's not planking, please let me know.2 -

Not sure what @RandiNoelle 's answer is going to be... but I'm afraid mine is planking in all shapes, forms and variations. It's the only core exercises I can currently do that don't aggravate my back problems.
That said... I can now plank with the best of them. Which, I guess, counts as an NSV as well considering I face planted after 10 seconds when I first started.16 -
Hehe, @ladyreva78, planking is the simple answer to @fitoverfortymom 's question! I starting a morning planking routine about 4 months ago (forearm plank, side plank both sides, then another forearm plank). Started with 15 seconds each and have moved to 30 seconds in each hold so the whole routine is 2 minutes long. I also incorporate reverse sit ups (or leg lefts) and crunches/full sit-ups into my workouts a couple times a week. Usually it's 2-3 sets of 15 reps.14

I got a bicycle in the fall. I used it twice and both times I didn't make it very far. Probably a total of a quarter of a mile both times. I took my son out today and made it up the same hill that stopped me twice before. My legs burned like hell, but we went 1.75 miles.
Also, I've lost 15 lbs and the seat I accused of being broken doesn't squeeze any more.30 -
Attended a social event and didn't break out into an anxious sweat. At my heaviest of 242, I had so much social anxiety which would manifest in me sweating profusely. The more I thought of not sweating, the more I would. I started to avoid social gatherings, because it was so embarrassing. Since starting my journey, I have attended 3 parties and didn't even break a sweat. Not sure if it is because of the increased exercise or just feeling confident about myself, but I am so, so glad.52

I was getting a bit fed up because the scale has not gone down much since before the holiday. BUT I see other progress: my cycling mileage is up, I feel fitter than I have for years and several people lately have said I look like I have lost "even more" weight....so maybe I swapped some fat for some cycling muscles?? I don't feel like giving up just yet. ALso, I've had some success swapping snacks out and having very posh coffee and (no sugar) flavoured coffees instead, it seems to work for me, a whiff of luxury.... good luck everyone, this is quite the battle, is it not.27
