Split pea soup

Are you guys fans? I love the stuff and have not had it in years until tonight. I made a pot and even my kids devoured it. I think a lot of people are turned off from it because it's green, but if you can get over that part it is very nutritious. I used this recipe but added garlic, some marjoram and did not measure the carrots or celery and only added a half of a large onion. Are usually have some onion and celery truck up because I use it as a base for a lot of things. I chopped some ham I had and cooked the split peas with a ham hock.(sorry if you are vegetarian/vegan)..I also added a couple of teaspoons of better than bullion (chicken base) and pepper. I don't feel it needed any salt due to the ham/hock and chicken base. If you make it, let me know what you think.

HUGE fan of split pea soup! That recipe is very similar to how I usually make it. If you want to change it up a bit, try Alton Brown's Curried Split Pea.

I love split pea soup and haven't made it for awhile. Thanks for this recipe--definitely making this weekend!3 -
I love split pea soup! I steal leftover holiday ham bones and use them instead of ham hocks. I also sometimes add diced potatoes because everything is better with potatoes.2

I have been making this recipe for many years, but I use a smoked turkey neck instead of ham hock.

I love it...I made some right after Christmas with my leftover ham and ham bone. Split pea soup was definitely one of my mom's staples when I was growing up as it is incredibly cheap and can feed an army.3

Split pea is one of my go-to soup dishes. Quick and easy. I just use a simple recipe.
Saute chopped med-sized onion, add 2 cups died split peas & 6-8 cups water. Bring to a boil and then simmer. Add a meaty ham hock for flavor. Remove hock after it's "cooked" (when the meat starts to pull away from the bone). Cut up the ham meat & set aside. Toss the bone or put it back into the pot for more flavor if you prefer; just remember to remove it b4 blending. When split peas are tender, hit them w/an immersion blender til smooth. Add salt, pepper & lemon juice to taste. Serve in a bowl w/some ham hock meat and lemon zest.1 -
