However I did get a 50% discount code for the NJ Marathon, so guess what I'll be running for a third time this April? ;) I needed an April race, so... I signed up for the full for $60 (~$40 off list price!) and will drop down to the HM if I'm not feeling the 26.2. I'll still keep Vermont City and Cleveland as back-up options at the end of May. I'll only do the full at NJM if I really think I have a great chance for a BQ, if not I will try for another HM PR.

And this being from the woman that swore off marathons from on out only a couple of months ago. Glad you're thinking about that BQ again.

Ditto this! Its awesome you're going for it!

LOL. It's a disease. No one here is immune to it...

@Stoshew71 Thanks for the reply. The pain isn't sharp at all and really doesn't even bother my when I'm running (minus the warm up) so no effect on form. It must just be sore/tired then, I've backed off on the distance per run (shorter runs more often) so I'll see how that pans out.

Ohhhhh my God you are all amazing and bloody Marathon runners :-(

I am a total running novis and patted myself on the back when I hit my first 6.5k yesterday :(

Am I allowed to join your group? I think it will motivate me massively!!!

This group is GREAT for motivation!! I've learnt a lot from being here, and it really IS great motivation - keeping track of this thread is helping me work towards my first half marathon. We're certainly not ALL marathoners and ultra-kings!!!

The nice thing about brain-addled-marathon-training-beginning-hypochondria....it's a great excuse to register for a fall "back up" marathon, right???? LOL I need to have a professional clear me to run......

@Darwin20 and @Skipper111 Welcome to the group!

We all started out in the same place, so understand what you have already accomplished and the journey ahead of you. I started running when our local swimming pool closed for an extended maintenance cycle. Now I have completed lots of 5 and 10 km events, 3 HM's last year and my 1st HM this year is next week.

Here are a few links to related pages - a real compilation of great information
Running Related Sites and a Runners Book List

Thanks @juliet3455 this is great to hear!

What impressive accomplishments! I have signed up for my for 10K to give me a date to aim for! Fingers and toes crossed

Perfect weather today (44F feels like 38 with a 13mph wind and sunny!) for my 4 mile run. Middle 2 miles involved 3 sets of 5 little hill repeats. An elderly lady asked me if I like running uphill :p

Today's run was a lesson in Embrace the Suck.

It started out fine enough, with the wind at my back. Of course, this meant that the wind would be in my face on the way back. I spent the first four miles trying to accept this fact. The Prairie Path was a hot mess, just hacked to bits and frozen in spots, and generally hard to navigate. I should have worn my trail shoes. I spent a lot of the run shifting and jumping to avoid nasty spots. Once I got past the train tracks, though, the path evened out. But then came time to turn around and head back.

    WOOSH

So. Much. Wind. Coming right at me. I felt like I was pushing against a brick wall. Yet I carried on. At 6.25 miles, however, I couldn't take it anymore and had to slow down to a walk. This didn't last long because it was about 25F and I immediately became cold. So after less than a mile, I started running again just to keep warm. Luckily At mile 7 I was able to turn south and the wind wasn't directly in my face anymore. Still, what a workout.

So my total distance was 7.4 miles running and about 0.85 miles walking. Once the wind hit me, I was very glad I had worn my ugly yellow vest.

Damn. I had a couple of photos I wanted to post, but it won't let me upload them. One of them was me in my ugly yellow vest, so you could all see just how ugly it truly is.

@Katharmonic If you are asking about Cleveland Ohio. I live in that area (about 30 miles West of the City proper). Where will you be? We have some amazing Metro Park trails all around the Cleveland area.
I lived in west-burb-Cleve and worked downtown for 15 years before moving to MN. My two favorite running locales - both very popular choices - are Rocky River Reservation (on the west side) and the towpath trail in Cuyahoga Valley Nat'l Park (south of the city). A friend of mine owns a local running specialty store on the east side and I'm sure he would have good recommendations if you're looking for routes. Have fun!

Thanks @kimlight2 and @Calvin2008Brian. I'll actually mostly be south of Cleveland in Kent and Akron. But I'm flying into Cleveland and probably touring around there a bit. Cuyahoga Valley National Park was mentioned to me, so I think I'll at least be getting a little drive through tour there. Now that I've seen my itinerary I have even less free time that I imagined so I doubt I'll get to do any running at all. But I will check out what I can in case I get back there.

@luluinca sorry to hear about your meniscus tear and arthritis but glad you have gotten relief with the cortisone! Good luck in making your comeback into running.

@luluinca Welcome back! Sorry about your knee. Good luck with your comeback ;)

@RespectTheKitty Yes, we must see this vest!

Got 20 min of arms & abs done tonight. I am soooo out of shape. Not only has my running mileage declined 4 months in a row, but strength training has suffered. February is going to be my month to get back on track *crossing fingers* :p I'm thankful I could keep up some activity through my husband's health issues so I'm not completely starting from scratch.
