Seems unnecessary but if you enjoy the smoothies, it won't hurt to have them.
Nothing wrong with protein powder, it's simply a protein supplement for those who may have a hard time meeting their protein goal with food alone.
What even is detox tea, and why would anyone need it?0 -
Yes, I do enjoy smoothies and I think it would be much easier than eating all of the fruit/ veggies..
Okay protein powder is a yes....
And detox tea?? hmm I am not sure.. Is this not good to add.. Should I leave the detox tea out??Alyssa_Is_LosingIt wrote: »Seems unnecessary but if you enjoy the smoothies, it won't hurt to have them.

A lot of detox teas contain laxatives, so I would advise not buying them.
Also, "detox" is a buzzword, and the premise behind it is a scam.

Ahhh, thank you for this information... Very informative so far..2 -
Anyone heard of shakeology??0
-
Make sure that you weigh and log all the ingredients. Smoothies can be quite high calorie.
I am doing more smoothies these days due to tooth issues.0 -

Another money-grubbing scam.
If someone tries to sell this garbage to you, run in the other direction.8 -
Hey, if you enjoy smoothies.
Stay away from the detox tea. You'll be getting plenty of fiber. I hate to think of taking a laxative on top of that.
There are higher quality protein powders than Shakeology.
As has been mentioned, weigh and measure all your smoothie ingredients so your calorie counts are accurate.
What are square bars?1 -

Got it. No detox tea
Shakeology is waaay to expensive for me anyways..but good to know its garbage...
Square bars are organic protein bars

I never had them1 -
If you want some good insight into high quality supplements, I would look at www.labdoor.com . But I would largely try to eat food instead of drinking if as it is generally better for satiety.1

Most of them have 10g of protein. That is not allowed. I would rather have the cliff energy bars for a fraction of the price (like 1/3). Most good protein bars have at least 20g of protein in them.0 -

They seem really expensive for what they are. 220 calories and only 12 grams of protein is not that great, especially at $30 per box. If I were you, I'd see how I make out without protein bars before I went out and bought a $30 box of glorified cardboard.

What is the difference between whey isolate and whey protein?? Just curious .. I am leaning towards the Myprotein Impact Whey Isolate0 -

Isolates go through additional processing to remove the carbs, which eliminates the lactose; this causes it to be more expensive but beneficial for those with lactose issues. Concentrates don't go through as much processing. Overall, protein wise it won't make a difference. I tend to stick with concentrates as they cost less.5 -
Ahhhhhh, got it.. Thanks

There's a brand of teas called Yogi Tea and they have a detox one - but it's not "detox" like you would think in terms of a diet, where it has laxative effects. Instead, it has herbs that help support healthy liver and kidney function (your body's natural detoxifying system). We drink it in my house quite often. That's what I think they're probably referring to when they say detox tea. I would, as others have suggested, stay away from detox diet teas, like SkinnyMint or FitTea.0

Between this post and your other one, it really seems like you are making this a lot harder than you need to. There are a ton of things out there that people make claims about that are really only effective at one thing - taking your money.
Honestly, if you want to lose weight, you need to figure out how many calories you need every day (TDEE) and then eat less calories than that. This site makes that REALLY easy to do by using the "Goals" button, then just eat less calories than you need and you will lose fat.
As for cutting out various foods, drinking smoothies, using protein powder, fad supplements like "detox" anything - that is all a preference, but won't make you lose weight. If you want to cut calories by cutting out bread, so be it. If you want to increase protein by using powder, go for it. If you want to take solid food and blend it up and drink it through a curly straw, that is your choice. Paying for special detox teas and flax seeds it up to you. But losing weight is all about the calories.
The only thing I'll mention is cutting out meat is a BAD idea unless you have a plan to replace the protein with another source. Even then, it will be hard to get a complete protein unless you just use milk. Your body can make just about everything it needs except essential amino acids and essential fatty acids. You get the essential aminos from good quality proteins and you get the essential fatty acids from certain fat sources. In other words, your body NEEDS protein and healthy fats, but not necessarily carbs. If you don't get enough protein, your body gets those aminos from another protein source - your muscles. The less muscle you carry, the less calories you burn, which makes fat loss harder, and you will probably never get the look you want. So, just be careful about cutting protein.
For fat loss, the only things I care about are below, in order of importance:
1) Calories In vs Calories Out
2) Eating enough protein
3) Strength Training
4) Cardio4 -

Yogi Tea.. got it Thank you so much for the tip.. I did not want to leave out anything0 -
You have listed out 2 (possibly more) fad diet's in this thread. Just eat whatever you want that puts you into a calorie deficit. Your diet should be sustainable otherwise you will have no idea how to maintain your weight when you stop losing weight.5

Question. I logged all my smoothies , snacks for first day on 10 day green smoothie cleanse. MFP is saying I'm not meeting my daily calorie intake. Is this ok by being on the cleanse.?0
