Do you have any "banned" foods that you won't allow in your diet?

Gluten - it really does not agree with me, we have the love/hate affair going on.0

I gave up sugary soda because it wouldn't work with my calorie goals. I avoided pizza for quite a bit because I am not to be trusted around pizza. I must eat ALL of it.
Now, I will make personal pizza at home or order a portion of pizza at a restaurant where I can eat the WHOLE THING.1 -
None that are truly banned but a lot that I typically avoid because they aren't worth the calories to me. Yesterday, someone brought fresh donuts and there was one with maple icing and nuts so I stashed it away and budgeted it into my day. I ate it right before going to the gym when I usually have more carbs anyway. I don't even remember the last time I had a donut.2

There are a lot of foods that I refuse to make if I'm not taking them to an event where I won't have leftovers or purchase for my home.
bwahaha. yep- My most calorie-dense goods are saved for potlucks. You don't want to know how many calories are in Arequipe (AKA dulce de leche)-drowned pound cake.
Dulce de leche is a godly food item.2 -
Well gee my husband really shouldn't eat tomato sauce so we eat a fair amount of alfredo around here.
There are some alfredo sauces that aren't actually all that high in fat, and a little can go a long way. I go a bit heavy on adding garlic because garlic makes food taste...well, *more* somehow...without adding much if any calories.
Also, we enjoy "pink sauce"--alfredo cut about 50/50 with marinara sauce. Try it! Not as much calories but plenty of creaminess and taste and "sauciness".5 -

Lies!
How about creamed peas with little pearl onions? Yum!
Cat vomit Bleh.2 -
I still buy them on occasion but chips are my downfall. I've been pretty good at taking out the serving size and eating only those but I have to put the bag back in the cupboard immediately or else I will eat that whole damn bag and regret it later.
I buy a box of the small bags and just eat a small bag is all. It works for me, but I know someone else commented they would just scarf down a whole bunch of bags. If I have a big bag, I doubt I would limit to the same 30g.1 -

I don't know where you heard that pasta alfredo is one of the worst foods you could possibly eat...it's calorie dense, sure...but not inherently unhealthy...the bigger issue with it is the serving size you're likely to get at a restaurant...same for just about any pasta dish.
Bagels aren't empty calories...I was just looking at the package of bagels in our bread rack...245 calories...48 grams carbohydrates...4 grams fiber...10 grams protein 15% RDA Iron...12% RDA magnesium. Rather than going by things you hear, look at nutrition labels.
Yeah, but some of the bigger bagels (from an independent bakery) can be about double that. I agree though, that the calories aren't empty. And I love good bagels.2 -
The *good* bagels (the only ones worth eating) always have a lot of calories.

I banned *kitten* store sandwich bread because it's not worth the calories just to have a blank canvas for a sandwich.
I won't eat cooked spinach. I once threw a lump of cooked spinach off a third storey balcony into a vacant lot next door. I was five at the time, but I still feel the same. Fresh spinach salad is very nice though and I'll even tolerate lightly sautéed.4 -
Nah, although I do not eat pizza as much as I used to0
-
I dont eat chips. I will consume an entire bag all at once! So no more for me.
I also try to keep my processed foods at a low level.
Plus I also don't eat meat, only fish once a week and sometimes butter and eggs, but only if I can't make the recipe without them.
Oh and I also dont drink any kind of soda or juice that I haven't made myself, I never liked it, not even when I was a kid, so is not a ban, but stil1 -
Donuts. That is the ONLY food item that will never pass my lips again. Crazy?
One of my lowest points in my morbidly obese life was once eating a freaking dozen Krispie Kreme donuts...in one hour. And, I'm not what one would have described as a typical binge eater. I always just ate what I wanted and as much as I wanted- but never with shame or much thought. But it was ONLY donuts that I would eat until I was sick. They are like a drug to me, and I have no control.
So, yes- they are banned from my life.
Do I miss them...sure I do. But my life today is 1000x better than when donuts were part of my life, so I just think of them as poison.
There are quite a few foods I no longer eat regularly- mainly processed foods or those with added sugar, but they're not banned. No fast food burgers and fries.....but again, this is because I've changed my entire food lifestyle and LOVE how I feel eating healthy.

Peanut butter. I haven't banned it but I don't keep it in the house at all because next thing I know I will have eaten half the jar with a spoon.2
-
Reading about these all these banned foods is making me hungry. I think I'll go fix myself some creamed corn and pudding skin.4
-
Yep, alfredo, bagels, shrimp scampi (it's shrimp swimming in butter!), pancakes, cream sauces, macaroni and cheese, mayo and any mayo based salads, most desserts, peanut butter, Nutella..
But I have no problem eating chips, candy, pizza, wings, burgers, fries, and other equally calorie dense foods. I don't know why, it's weird...1 -
kale.
its gross.
actually, theres a lot of foods i wont eat, but, like kale, its because i dont like them and has nothing to do with calorie or nutrition values.

@GillianSmith2 - hope you have discovered zoodles, the most awesome replacement for pasta ever!
The only thing I won't eat is deep fried anything. But only because it gives me dreadful heartburn0 -

My new food processor will spiralize anything. I made yellow squash and zucchini with it the other day and made baked fries. They were really good!1 -
Brussel Sprouts - I am gagging just thinking about it. I can't even pass them by in the produce section without shuddering.1

Have you tried roasting them? So good.
I haven't technically banned anything. If I want something enough I make it work. But.... Often calorie dense stuff just doesn't seem worth it so I pick other things.2 -
There's nothing I banned, but there's different levels of moderation.
I try not to drink my calories so it isn't often I will have a drink other than water simply because it's not worth it to me. Every now and then I might have a fancy coffee beverage or an alcoholic drink or a soda, but it's very, very rare as I find I don't miss these things by not drinking them. If I want one I'll have one, but it's not often I want one.
Pizza I eat maybe once a month or so. Limit myself to. A slice or two. Chocolate I have almost everyday although they're so,e days I don't have it. Fast food I have once every two weeks. Mostly out of convenience than anything else.2 -
VintageFeline wrote: »I can't think of anything I've outright banned. Maybe whole chillis (because wimp) and marzipan (because gross).
My husband will eat the chilis and I will eat the marzipan. But I still can't figure out why fruitcake in the UK has marzipan on it. AND royal icing? fruitcake is already super rich.0 -
Brussels sprouts and carrots. I like Brussels sprouts and I like carrots, but cook them together and that is just nasty.1
-
@ritzvin My Lord. I googled dulce....can't even write it...0

My husband went on a rant "Kale is a f---ing roadside weed! You're supposed to spray f---ing Roundup on it, not balsamic vinegar! It's f---ing foliage, it's got chlorophyll and f--- all else"11 -
Soda and ice cream....I haven't banned them from my diet, but I only get them when I go out to eat or am visiting someone who offers. If they're in the house, I can't drink/eat just one serving.1
-
I ban these and it works.
1. eating at the mall
2. eating at any stadium or sporting event
3. Fast Food1 -
(snippage by reply-er)
For me, at this point, probably what keeps me from eating something is that it's just a pain to have to measure it or portion it out (for example queso...I don't want to have to portion it out, would rather reheat the full bowl and scoop...but then I have no idea how much I'm eating). I feel the same way about measuring out pastas. And I know it's more a mental issue, than actually being difficult to measure it. It's my own personal problem.
Maybe weigh the whole bowl of queso, scoop at will, weigh the bowl of queso again, subtract, log?
Back on topic:
No banned foods, but quite a few things that just don't seem worthwhile anymore. Like others, I'm not gonna eat crap baked goods or desserts, only fabulous, ambrosial ones.
And I can mostly resist chips, but traditional taco-flavor Doritos can't come in my house very often, because I will gobble them very very quickly.

Foods have to pass the nutrition to calorie test or the deliciousness to calorie test. If it's not nutritious or delicious then it's a no.
When I first started I would only drink water because when I went to pour anything else I thought "oh no, this is taking calories away from solid foods I could eat." I have added milk back now.
I avoid looking at pop tarts at the store. Not satisfying enough for the calories. It's hard to eat just 1-2 oreos because of habit. No problems with other cookies or sweet treats. I've even fit ice cream in! Lost 10 pounds so far!2
