Wheat free

Dr is putting me on a wheat free diet. Anyone else going wheat free?? Suggestions??

    I did it a year ago. Arthritis pain greatly reduced (my reason for cutting the grains). IBS has been cured for six months now and am under 200 for the first time in 22 years. More mentally alert.

    In my case being 63 and hooked hard the first two weeks of withdrawal was hard then the cravings just faded fast. Wished I had done it at age 23, 33, 43, 53 but my health gains are beyond my wildest imaginations.

    I am reading Wheat Belly Total Health by William Davis MD and I suggest you to consider it. It is $10/$20 digital/paper.

    You are going to be so happy for the rest of your life over giving up the grains.

    I read Wheat Belly and also recommend it. Arthritis pain gone in my left knee for 3 years. I'm 60 and do from 30-60 min a day of strenuous workout 5-6 days a week. Thought I'd have to stop working out a few years ago. I can gain weight wheat free, so I'm on here like everyone, to develop better habits around eating.

    I really need to do a wheat free diet.. I'm allergic to wheat and am pretty sure it's why I have daily headaches and so many migraines. I'm curious on others suggestions too and how it has helped them.

    So if I am on a wheat free diet can I have oatmeal? Oatmeal is gluten free so it is allowed on a gluten free diet.

    There is a little bit of gluten in rolled oats but none in steel cut oats. You can see if you can get away with eating the oats. I eat oats and it doesn't give me joint pain like wheat.

    They sell gluten free oatmeal. Always look for that label on the box, because you'd be surprised what sneaks in otherwise. Including actual wheat in the same brand that also makes the gluten free one! Gotta find that label. For actual celiacs you want the box to say processed in a gluten-free facility or similar.

    I also read wheat belly and chose to be gluten free. Been eating delicious meals without wheat for years and am very satisfied. I've explored so many alternatives since then which I'm really happy with! Once in awhile I'll have something that isn't gluten free just so I won't become completely intolerant to wheat but that's hardly ever. Give it a shot it's super easy.

    My poor mom! She's had her joint pain greatly reduced since cutting out gluten, but she hasn't quite managed to practice reading the labels.

    Tonight she found out wheat is an ingredient in her ice cream bars.

    It sneaks in everywhere! Good news is, for her issue, she doesn't have to be perfect to get results. But now she wants to get strict about it to see if her seasonal allergies go away, as per my brother in law, who is celiac and discovered a hay fever free life after changing his diet.

    Ask your doctor to clarify it for you. Maybe over the phone to save you another visit?

    Ask your doctor WHY wheat free. That will help enourmously to decide whether the idea has merit, and what else you should or shouldn't stop eating.

    That makes the most sense to me. I am wheat free due to a specific carbohydrate I can't digest in wheat, not gluten at all. Mine is to help with IBS. Your doctor could try be getting you off gluten, off something else in wheat like I am, or just want you eating less carbs.

    Due to my weight gain and a few other health issues I'm having. She thinks this at help with that. She said wheat and gluten then said just wheat. I go back this week for my lab follow up make sure there aren't any underlying heath issues

    Hi I'm new and need to lose weight but also recently had it confirmed i'I gluten and wheat intolerant. Joint pain has cleared up really quickly off all pain killers and IBS is much much better with everyday. Headaches seem less and pins and needles in hands a feet seemed to have gone.

    I'm finding it hard to get info so if any of you could add me as a friend or point me to any other threads of interest please do. I go to the gym 6 days a week and hoping I can still meet my energy needs

    While I cut out both sugar and all forums of all grains Oct 2014 I got the same results that you got. I will try to find the MFP sub forum containing the info you are asking about. I just posted it at the top.

    Thanks so much I've just spent far to long reading all the threads.

    I too don't have sugar, due to an allergy I can't even eat some fruit without having a reaction but so used to it now since it's been over 30 years living with it

    That's amazing - my doc said I should find the weight starts moving now we know I have to avoid gluten and wheat but I couldn't find many people with success stories.
