50 miles managed - final mile completed tonight despite really not feeling it. Not going to set a goal for March until I go to the physio next week to find out what is up with my hip

No run today so the month ends with 90.8 miles out of an initial goal of 70, revised to 90.

I will see you all over in the March thread. I don't have a goal in mind yet but will ponder it on the plane tomorrow to sunny Arizona! Probably no run tomorrow so my month will start on Mar 2.

Congrats everyone on a great February.

@skippygirlsmom - so happy that you won't need surgery and I hope the non-surgical treatments are a great success.

February total to date – 203.01

Nominal Challenge Goal – 225 miles
Real Goals: Survive travel to and from Bend. Train well toward Boston. Avoid injury.

Today's notes – Final February report! Today's assignment was 2 x 3 miles at T pace with 3 minutes recovery, then 4 x 200 at R pace with 200 recovery. The nice indoor track was closed because it was set up for a non-running event tomorrow, and the setup was prior to 5 PM. That canceled evening use of the track, even though the facility was not in use for the special occasion during the evening. Grrr!

So I ran the interval workout on the outdoor track, because the weather was nice enough to run outdoors and I hadn't brought my headlamp. With the headlamp, I could have at least run the 2 x 3 miles at T on the roads instead of doing laps on the track. But I expected to be indoors. Oh, well. I substituted 4800m for 3 miles and called it close enough, though Garmin autolapped the miles before 1600m. Huh. The first mile, I had to pass some people; the rest of the time, I pretty much had the dark track to myself. Add a 2 mile warm up and a 1 mile cool down, and I got over 10 miles in this evening.

So for the month of February, I'm over 200 miles but short of the nominal 225 mile goal. I knew this was coming, as I missed too many running days in the disaster of travel to and from Bend. As far as real goals, I'm running very well right now. I had the stamina to run the 2 x 3 miles at T tonight, I ran the 200s at R faster than I thought I could (39, 39, 40, and 38 seconds), and I'm feeling pretty healthy. So I'd say training toward Boston is right on track, and I survived the travel to and from Bend in decent shape. Real goals were met, and I'm not going to fret about being short a few miles for the month.

Finishing up February with with a run on the treadmill tonight. 3.4 miles in 37:37. Warm up walk, 5 x 5 mins run/2 mins walk, cool down walk. This was my first run on the treadmill post-injury but it wasn't too bad since I was doing intervals. The flat and even surface of the treadmill makes me hyper aware of my gait and running symmetry. I can tell I've improved a little bit but I definitely still have a ways to go. Tomorrow evening is my much-anticipated gait analysis appointment and I'm very interested to see how it will go.

To preface this, I have a appointment set with my Primary care physician who's a DO....Question for ya'all, could tight quads cause pain near the top of my shin? I notice it most when going up and down stairs. When I run, it goes away after a while. The reason I asked about quads, is I did some stretching at my desk, and I noticed that my left quad is a lot stiffer than it used to be....

My #1 running hero is my boss.

She says that after running for years, you get used to the fact that there's always some sort of niggle.

You also get used to knowing if it's a niggle you can run through, or an injury you should rest.

If it was me 18 months ago, I'd be panicking. Now, those sound like niggles. FWIW

    2/15 - cross-training - zumba + a little weighted ab work
    2/16 - 8 mile general aerobic run w/8x100m strides
    2/17 - 6 mile general aerobic run / cross-training - weights

    2/27 - rest
    2/28 - 8 mile (some kind of speed/tempo) run

    Total: 100/116

208 miles/2,017 miles - goal for the year

So I didn't quite make my goal, due to two missed runs from the neverending sinus infection. Note to self: don't make my monthly goal here the exact total of perfectly getting in all my scheduled runs. Wiggle room is good! Lol.

Yesterday was supposed to be 7 miles, but I swapped it for today's 8 miler, because who wants to end a month at 99 miles when it could be 100?! The 8 miler was supposed to just be an endurance run, while the 7 was a mixed hill/strides workout. But I had a deadline yesterday and ended up running the 8 at a faster pace than what it should have been (my HM pace from my 1st HM). So we'll see how the 7 goes today, whether I'll incorporate the full speed workout, or maybe just do the strides portion.

@Elise4270 I was actually very happy that my bday coincided with a rest day, lol. Don't think I'm quite at the level to run 34 miles in one day :D There is someone in my running club who does that, but she also just completed a 100 mile ultra, lol.

And thanks for all the birthday wishes!

See you guys on the March thread!

Congratulations & all the best to all of you!
@Elise4270 You should have made the "run your age" suggestion 10 years ago, maybe I could have done it then. This year my birthday will be a week before a marathon that I might sign up for; I'm not sure 32 mi or even km fit in with the taper. Maybe my age in minutes ;)

@skippygirlsmom Woohoo, great news that you don't need surgery!

@potatowhoruns Great job making it to 50mi. I hope there isn't anything serious wrong with your hip.

@lporter229 I always feel like the trails are so far away from me - 15-20min by car, depending on where I want to run. I would prefer to have them right outside the door. But I guess "far" is relative. It's usually worth the drive :-)
I hope your PT appointment goes well on Friday!

    --

7km run for me yesterday. I even (barely) got back before midnight, so it all counts for February. That brings me to 202km for the month. Some technical challenges along with that - Strava wouldn't let me upload last night, and that other ticker site I was using gives an error message when you want to enter a current value larger than the goal.
But nevermind - after three month of recovery/travel/holidays/illness, I've finally made it past 200km again, yay!

I'm happy to hear I wasn't the only person having Strava issues yesterday, lol. I had to go in this morning and manually import it from my watch, because it wasn't pulling it from Garmin Connect.
