He's just not that in to you... (he or she)

Isn't this a movie or book or something? Why do I always think of MFP when I hear that phrase? Why do I always hear people talking about how this isn't a dating site? Technically this is true, but isn't any type of social media a place to make connections? Why would a weight loss site that is based on social interactions be any different? Should it be different? Some people don't seem to mind and yet I read others posting about it with a lot of anger or disgust. If mfp was not a place to be social, do you think it would still work for you with weight loss? Or is it a case of social being fine, but some people take social to a whole new level? Has that happened to you? Has it been detrimental to your weight loss efforts or helped? Tell me your story, I'm curious.

What would I be doing on a dating site if I had a wife? Come on now. ;)

So my honest answer, I have been here 7 years. I never ventured into the fun/chit chat sections until last year. I was very successful with logging all that time. I lost 104 lbs in total. I stayed focused. I learned tons from the "serious" threads. The past year, I have stayed out of the serious threads for the most part and stay mostly here. I have met some amazing friends. They are caring and hilarious people. They make my day brighter, push me to keep going and inspire me. So in short, I am still focused but even better for having them in my daily life.

    wow 104...that's very impressive

I think if the social interaction (and subsequent flirting) wasn't on MFP. I'd probably just be kicking it analog. It definitely keeps things interesting.

honestly mfp is my favorite social media site right now, mostly because of the no politics rule. but now that i know i'm the only one not getting dick pics i'm gonna have to reassess my rankings.

The social aspect makes it fun. I do think people can find friendships, relationships, bathing buddies anywhere at any time so why shouldn't or couldn't this be everything to all? I think some see the "would you kiss" or "would you date" threads and think that is real and people are actually planning on kissing and dating but it is what it is a fun site to kill LOTS of time on and if you happen to make a new friend then yay.

and (1) do people actually only work 9-5 anymore?
    (2) aren't we all just really here for the D?

Well I work 8-5 but between 8-9 is when I'm taking all the pics I'll be sending out sporadically throughout the day so no time to chat then

well 8-9 is like the easing in period at work no? so you're entitled to that as your photo time
I always believed anything after 4 was winding down time....it's really best I not work in offices eventually everyone believed this

The social aspect has really helped me a great deal. It keeps me logging in, and logging in reminds me to log my food and watch my calories, and keeps me moving forward, even if it's slow.

If it weren't for all the silly, crazy, snarky weirdos in this place, I probably would have walked away last month when things were getting really tough. :)

so without the social aspects do you think you'd be as successful in your weightloss?

This is my 3rd time here. This is the first time I've made it past 50 pounds without giving up and regaining. I'm gonna say without the social aspect I'd have been gone last month when I lost focus and would be on my way back up instead of logging a new low today. :)

This is my 1st time here and I started AFTER I lost my first 60. That said, I have found a lot of people to connect with that the positivity is more in synch with what I am looking for in my day-to-day. A TBH there's a little bit of something for everyone around the site... it's not all weight loss all the time. I think that helps keep things interesting and from getting stale in the long run. JMHO.
