Scared of it1

This would set me up for another trip down ED Lane. 5:2 works for some, not others.2

I couldnt eat next to nothing(for me it would be) for 2 days out of a week. I would be a crabby/hungry mess

I loved it - found it far easier to hit a moderate weekly calorie deficit that way.
Everyday deficit bores and frustrates me - that's what made me crabby in the past. Dieting effectively just one day at a time I found easier to stay motivated.
Bonus was that the transition to maintenance was a breeze as I was already accustomed to eating a maintenance level 5 days a week. Discovering what is true hunger as opposed to eating out of habit or greed was educational for me too.
@zyxst makes good points - there are quite a few groups of people best advised not to follow that eating pattern and it also just plain suits some people but not others from an adherence point of view.6 -

Just the thought of 500 calories per day (even if it's only two days a week) makes me hungry. And I just finished eating.
No thanks. The most effective diet is the one you'll stick to and provides the greatest satiety. I'd adhere to that diet for about 12 hours and then I'd be eating the drywall off my kitchen walls.5 -
Love it, so easy and lost 2 stone on it, hubby has lost 5.5 stone ... First couple of fast days were hard, but in the end full fasted for 23hrs on my fasting days ... now I just do it when I need to pull the weight back - if it works for you then it will be brilliant, if it doesn't then it doesn't3

I hate it! The thought of eating 500 calories, two days out of the week would make me stabby. I like eating two meals a day better.3

same here. I like food and if I dont get enough calories, its not good to be around me lol.I would end up eating over maintenance for those other days lol0 -
Love it! I'm doing 4:3. Easiest diet I've ever been on. I do 600 calories on fast days even though I'm female. I just can't get down to 500, so to balance it out better, I do a 4:3 instead of 5:2. On non-fast days, I eat 1300-1400 most of the time. Lost 23 lbs. in 5 months.6

Lauralee328 - you are rocking like my hubby - it works if you can get on the train!!

Love it!!
But it's not a diet, in my book, it's a lifestyle.5 -
Love it lost two stone over the last 12th months0

Doing it now. Love it. Probably 'go over' by 200 calories a day on fast days but have lost my constant search for snacks and high-carb food on my non-fast days after only doing this a week-so it all balances out.
I also feel mentally clearer, don't get that 2pm fog that I'm used to and aren't falling asleep on the way home from work. Too early to see results but love it so far..
The theory is so straight-forward... Eat less food!0 -
Love it. Been doing 5:2 or 6:1 for almost three years now. But I eat zero calories on fasting days. It's really easy and routine, once you get used to it.0

I'm a fan of it. I don't follow it currently, but have used it in the past to drop some weight. Easy to follow as long as I had my low calorie days planned out and prepped.0

OP - warning - this ^ isn't 4:3, or 5:2. Perhaps lauralee is incredibly tiny, or extremely sedentary.....but most people will have a much higher maintenance. This looks more like a diet + another diet.
5:2 is 500 calories for 2 days and MAINTENANCE the other 5. 4:3 is if you have more weight to lose.
