Healthy/Delicious/Filling Ice Cream - seems too good to be true!!

I just had to share this new ice cream I discovered recently. Halo Top. An entire pint of the mint chip flavor has 240 calories - 44g carb (12g fiber), 6g fat, and 24g protein. Tons of other flavors available too. I've tried almost every flavor and this stuff is delicious, healthy, and filling (due to lots of fiber and protein). Just to give a comparison - a pint of normal ice cream can run you anywhere between 1,000 - 1,200 calories.

This find was too good not to share on MFP! Please share other tips of healthy/delicious foods if you have any.

They just got this at my local supermarket - I'm trying to convince myself that trying it is worth $10 a pint...

It's good, but I'd never pay that for it. I get it on sale here, for 3.49.

$10 is ridiculous! It's $5.99 at whole foods where I get it, which is $1- $2 more than the other pints. Definitely worth it in my opinion.

I think it's $5.99 here but on sale this week for $4.99. I haven't tried it. I did get a free pint of Enlightened ice cream yesterday, but I haven't opened it yet.

I live in Australia, and it's $12 a pint here

OP do a search, there's loads of Halo Top threads here.

None of the Woolies in my state carry it..... yet. I go in and check on a weekly basis lol

A supermarket 30 minutes away has it, but i still haven't been bothered driving all the way there to get it. Plus the price irks me slightly. But i will eventually try it and see if it's as good as everyone says it is.

@Christine_72 Check Woolies again, they announced on FB a couple of days ago that they now have it and sure enough - mine does.

I called the one closest to me and they didnt have it. But a teenage boy answered the phone, and i don't think he walked over to check. I'll go in tomorrow and look for myself. Thank you so much for letting me know

Also check out 'Enlightened'. Sprouts has it, not sure where else.

... I say this, but I've only tried their "Banana Foster" flavor. xD Banana is the only thing Halo Top is missing for me.

FYI - Kroger has them on sale right now: 5 pints for $3.49 each.

I look at Halo Top the same as Quest bars: an expensive treat that I'll have a few times a week.

has anyone found this in Canada, at all?

Heh, they just got Halo Top at my Jewel (they seem to have gotten rid of McConnells, though, which irritates me). I was browsing with a friend after going out to dinner the other day, and am not currently buying ice cream, but was helping her pick out some. She found a mint chip for around 300 cal/serving (Graeter's, I think), then saw the HT and said this is supposed to be good, looked at it and said "eh, not much different." I got to point out that it was 240/pint, not per serving.

Nope. I asked about this at Whole Foods and emailed the company to make sure, its all about the English / French labeling on the container and the company not willing to spend the money to print that on the label. Sucks.
Plus, would you spend $10CDN on ice cream?

It's unreal that we can get it in Australia, but you guys cant get it in Canada. And for an annoying reason too!

How are people on these forums and NOT aware of Halo Top? It's gotta be the subject of, what, every 5th post?

Haha. Some people use these forums sporadically. I hop on here every few months or so if I have a question or want to share something, so I must've missed the previous Halo Top threads.

I bought some last week, I was so looking forward to it. I bought chocolate and didn't care for it at all. It tasted rubbery and fake. Not good at all. I may give another flavor a chance. But yea, I wasn't happy paying six bucks and after 2 bites say Yuck. So it seems I am in the minority here

People say the flavors are different and some are better than others. I think the texture of the chocolate is often recognized to be not as good.

The texture is a little different than normal ice cream, so you should put it in a pot of hot water for about 5 mins before eating. I also have never tried chocolate, but would highly recommend the chocolate chip cookie dough and the red velvet.

Costco has a 4 pack of vanilla for under $12. It's a great base to add healthy toppings to.

@Alatariel75 I finally bit the bullet and drove down and got some. They had the basic flavours, choc/vanilla/birthday cake so i got a tub of the chocolate and i also bought another brand called 'whey whip peanut butter choc nut crunch' flavour, so i can mix them together. I can not get over how small these tubs are, especially as i just forked out $21 for effing icecream!!
They had slightly melted by the time i got home, i couldn't help myself and had to have a little try.. I'm super impressed, the halo top was creamy and delicious, and the peanut butter whey whip was equally as good!

I'm definitely saving these for when i don't have many calories left for dessert, definitely wont be an every night thing, I'll go broke lol

Oh, thanks for the review and heads up! I'll keep an eye out for the other brand too. I think we will bite the bullet and try this weekend - chocolate is definitely the go to for the first try.
