      Not often but I am British. The technique of men here seems to be to stare someone until they make eye contact and synchronise your trips to the bar until you're drunk enough to make some mundane comment 'it's busy tonight' 'I love this song' etc. Then dance kind of near you getting closer until you are dancing together. Then wait until you make a move or talk to them.

      I don't know if that counts as being hit on.

      rarely with strangers, a few times 20 years ago. But there's been a couple of people who know me quite well hit on me when they've had some booze.....

      that tells me:
      1. I'm not visually attractive
      2. I have an attractive personality
      3. people find me intimidating

      I hit on women A LOT however......

      Yes I do. I think it's about being approachable and also about not caring lol. I've been happily married 23 years so when I go out (rarely). I couldn't care less if I'm hit on, I'm out to hang with my girlfriends and not be "mom" for a hot minute. So maybe my being aloof helps? Dont know. But while it's nice to receive a compliment , it's even better when that compliment comes from my husband. Hands down!
