I know you weren't asking me, @IVMay , but I think the JC cover blows the original out of the water. Trent Reznor even said once that, when he first heard Johnny sing it, he felt like someone had stolen his girlfriend. The music video is pretty epic, too.

Ditto. So damn true. The emotive sense you get out of Cash and the self reflection of his life, troubles and self destructive tribulations.... I mean - no amount of Trent (and don't get me wrong Trent is a great innovator in terms of industrial genre) could provide that...
Did you ever watch that Columbo episode with Cash as a guest star country music singer? I found it so well fitted his duality of man type character.1 -
