Eating a little junk food.

Hiya all, silly question , if I have calories left over and dont want to eat anymore food .. And wish to have a treat, maybe crisps, chocolate. Is it ok too ?? And still log it all in and keeping in mind the macros etc. ?

Of course it's okay. It's also okay to have occasional days where you eat a good chunk of calorie dense foods. As long as it's all accounted for, your overall diet is nutrient rich on most days, and it makes dieting easier for you, it's even recommended. The easier to can make things for yourself while still getting the results you want the more sustainable and better it is.
Today I had 1300 calories of sweets and I'm eating to maintenance calories. I don't do that often, and it was a part of a nice get together. I don't feel even the slightest bit of guilt, I feel joy because I did not let my diet get in the way of my life but at the same time took measures to make sure life doesn't get in the way of my dieting.9 -
I always try and make 6 squares of my favourite dairy milk fit. It's totally fine2

I burned a ton yesterday on an especially active day. I had probably an extra 900-1000 calories left and would not have gotten to my deficit. After dinner: bread with 2 tsp peanut butter, 3 chocolate chip cookies and a glass of ice cold milk. Still ended up -1500 for the day. Love those days. Of course, my goal is not to be -1500 on average, so I'll probably eat just a touch more the rest of the week. (If I don't, I feel it in my workouts).0 -

First, it's normal for weight to fluctuate from day to day. 1 lb is well within normal range of things impacted by increased sodium, stress, time of month, needing to poop, etc.
Second, it isn't any particular food that is responsible for weight gain. Weight gain comes from eating too many calories, specifically, to gain 1 lb of actual fat you'd have to consume an extra 3,500 cals above your maintenance calorie level.
For sustainable weight loss (which in my mind includes a plan to transition to maintenance), I think it's important to set a reasonable calorie goal based on an appropriate rate of loss. MFP will give you a target based on that. Eat a variety of foods up to that calorie target, striving for a mix of foods that provide nutrition (both macro and micro nutrients), satiety (fills you up when eating at a deficit), and enjoyment (a little chocolate can help keep you going so you don't feel so deprived). If you exercise, log and eat back a portion of those cals as well. Be patient and monitor and adjust after 6-8weeks depending on your actual results.7 -

aw thats good, i never go into anything made from doing an work outs, or walking, im on a 1430 cal diet and had some left over so i used a bit with treats, still with more left over..0 -
I had a snickers candy bar and a serving of chili cheese Fritos yesterday. I also nailed my macros/micros and calorie targets (and ate around 900 grams of veggies and fruit). Look at the big picture -nothing wrong with eating chips, candy etc, as long as your fitting it into an overall balanced diet and your calorie goals3

Chocolate covered potato chips are amazing. You can't go wrong with sweet and salty in one bite!

But eating crisps or chocolate doesn't negate the nutritional value of the rest of what you eat, so it's really not a problem.
The pound you gained may well be a normal fluctuation unless you've been eating over maintenance by around 500 cals every day for a week?5 -

A calorie is a calorie, no matter where it comes from. Go ahead and enjoy yourself a bit. Dieting doesn't have to be a chore.4

I am not a chip lover, but I do have chocolate every day.
For me, all food in moderation, log it, make it work into daily calorie budget.6 -

Thank you, i have been losing and very happy, jut this week i had a small gain as you said it can be many things, i know i am in target with the food intake as i weigh everything i eat. I had a Easter egg that i ate over 6 days lol.. still weighing and writing it in the diary, and got told if i want to lose weight i need to stop the sweets and crisps, as its not going to work.. ok so i know now thank you i wont be depriving myself, if i want anything.4 -

It is important to my long term success to create a "Not fuel" category in MFP diary. For me to maintain, I don't look at food as "bad" or "cheating", but as I log everything, I do want to keep track of what I'm eating that has minimal nutritional value, as I look at trends.0

nutritional value and fuel aren't the same thing...
jelly babies are great fuel for runners, yet you would have them under 'not fuel' due to their nutritional value?1
