Just leaving this here for you later, OP.

Of course people can write what they like (within forum guidelines).
But when they post their thoughts, others are free to post their thoughts in return. It's how online conversations work.31 -
Oh is that how it works!4

Everyone should, but not everyone does...
Got to go now... only got 26 minutes till its 7pm and haven't eaten my tea yet... :laugh:11 -
Sure you can write whatever you want on here, but if you're wrong you'll be called out on it25

People have no way of knowing if what they are going to write is going to offend somebody. Chances are they actually will offend somebody because for some reason, people take a general statement on these boards and try to contradict it with their one of scenarios.
Also yes everyone should choose the best weight loss solution for themselves, but should not tell other people it's what's best for them.

No you're wrong. You can't write whatever you want.9
-
If they post in a free forum, one assumes they are looking for dialogue. If only looking for validation they can go to Motivation & Support or just say so. I also think "offended" might not be the right word. I'm not "offended" if someone says ACV made them lose weight.4

Wrong. You have to be within the site's guidelines or you get your posts altered/deleted, warnings if reported by enough people, and/or banned if enough warnings are on your account.
It's why I post stupid gifs.

Your believing the lies the diet industry sells you.
You lose weight one way, by consuming less calories than you burn.9 -
I don't take anything personal, but I do feel it is important to get a full range of information out there so that newer people can find their OWN way. Stating absolutes is never a good idea, here or elsewhere.5

Gifs comment aside, this is true. We can't actually post whatever we want. There are rules. And yes, the simplest thing might offend somebody...you have no way of knowing...you can try to be polite but you really never know.
I remember one time I was talking to another parent at school and she was talking about a growth spurt and I made an old joke my mother used to say: "Well, if you keep feeding them, that's what happens." The joke is two-fold: one, of COURSE parents are going to feed their children, LOL, and two, yes, feeding a young anything generally makes it grow. It was meant to be a cute, old-fashioned joke...she thought I was telling her that her kid is fat. You can offend someone by accident and particularly online, where people can't see you, it can happen, so if you want to avoid offending you have to basically just never say a word...you know?
But was there some reason you were making this point, OP? Was there something you wanted to say? I'm not sure what the OP was getting at. Maybe you should post your thoughts?5 -

blasphemy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!6 -
People telling you that you're wrong =/= people being offended by what you've said.18

If this is a response to your other two threads from this morning, I wish you'd jump in and join the discussion. I think that characterizing those who posted as "offended" really does a disservice to some really good information that's been handed to you. And I'm still concerned about the health implications of this diet that cuts out all fats you seem to be engaging in. That's a really worrying choice. It would be great if you'd take the time to clarify your thoughts instead of this random sub-posting thing.18 -

For example, it is against the forum rules to post that someone is trolling.4 -

Oh, I hate that thing...it's creepy...it reminds me of that frightening McDonald's moon in the commercial where it sang to the tune of "Mack the Knife."

Why do you think you said something wrong?
Why not join the discussion in your other threads (I only recall one other one, but I know there were some questions to you). I don't think anyone was offended or taking anything personally, but we were responding to the topic.1 -

This is totally correct. Even if someone is completely trolling, you cant call them on it.3 -

Maybe if you actually engaged in some of the conversations, you would see that we aren't all neanderthals here. There's a lot of spirited and lively discussions that go on. Remaining open to it when I first got here made a significant impact on my life. You might be surprised at what you can learn, rather than just repeating diet industry myths.5 -

I can confirm this as well... from personal experience. *moving on*

Preferentially on-topic for the forum, I would think. And we can't expect everyone will agree with what we say.5 -

And you certainly can't guarantee no one will be offended!2 -
Maybe you're posting on your phone and you've not been on web-based forums before? It is pretty old-school. I can see how if you are used to just blasting something on twitter or instagram or even facebook this kind of interaction would be a departure.
"Forum" by definition means, "discussion."
