More weightlifting than cardio

Anyone else doing more weightlifting than cardio to burn fat? I'm newly obsessed with weightlifting and I'm at the gym as much as possible. I've made a huge diet change as well and since a week from today I'm down 7.5 lbs. (I moved in with my boyfriend and he's a gym rat and weightlifting)

I started off doing mostly cardio but now I have alternative days where I do more weights or cardio depending on my mood but do weights almost every gym trip1

Exercising burns calories.
Eating in a deficit burns fat.
In general cardio will burn more calories than weightlifting.5 -
I definitely do more lifting than cardio. But I'm pretty active anyway with a 6 month old who's enjoying crawling lol.2

Not 100% what you mean by structured. But, I do have a schedule of what I do on what days.

I totally get that. I have a 1.5 year old and he's running...EVERYWHERE! lol it definitely counts as cardio for sure1 -
I think 3 to 5 sessions of cardio and 1 to 2 sessions of muscular training per week is a good balance for total fitness.1

Ya I did cardio today for the first time in... a long time. I definitely lift way more than I do cardio. For me I lift weights to preserve the muscle I have, and cardio kind of helps the deficit (and heart health, etc etc)1

I hardly do cardio at all. I run maybe, a mile or a mile and a half per week, IF that. I focus mostly on compound lifts. Lifting in general burns as much fat as cardio does in my anecdotal experience.1

Weight lifting should be done with the purpose to gain or maintain muscle mass. Cardio for fitness and calorie burn. Hence when I lift, I don't try a circuit, I rest well in between sets, the point that I'm only trying to to maximize my reps at the defined weight. As to days lifting, I lift 3 and cardio 4 and if I need a rest day, it comes from the cardio.0 -

Cardio does burn fat and so does weight lifting. If you are only doing cardio it will result in loose skin after you have lost weight which looks unattractive. Weight lifting ensures body toning as well as tightening of the skin plus you also burn fat.
You could consider HIIT in your schedule if you really like cardio like 4 days per week weightlifting, 2 days HIIT. I think it's great that you and your boyfriend share the same passion of weightlifting. There is nothing cooler and better than having your partner working out with you, it makes it all the more a fun activity.

They both burn fat but cardio burns more calories per hour. However, to lose weight the important thing is your calorie deficit.1

I usually walk for 20 minutes after lifting. I've found that I'd rather eat less food if I want to be less fat...than increase cardio.2

I only do cardio 3 times a week, I prefer it that way.1

Do the appropriate amount of each to reach your fitness goals rather than just for calorie burns. Use food intake to control your weight while fueling your exercise regime.4

I lift 4 days a week and do no formal cardio. Sometimes I switch it up and run on the treadmill but no more than 40 minutes a week lol.1

I definitely do my cardio in a hiit fashion. But only 2-3 days a week. But we lift 5 days a week.

I lift way more than I cardio. My calorie deficit is my cardio. As far as making serious body changes, cardio is a waste of time in my opinion. But I just freakin love lifting heavy so....lol.1

I'm right there with ya! I absolutely hate cardio. I feel amazing and accomplished when lifting.0 -
I'm doing p90x, so it's mostly weights, push-ups and pullups with 2 days for cardio.0

"Newly" obsessed should not be lifting 5 days a week, despite the enthusiasm . Do not try to copy whatever your boyfriend is doing, get a beginners program, and take it easy, giving your body time to rest. Hurting yourself will not help.
As for HIIT, despite it being in fashion, if you are not an athlete, chances are (1) you are not really doing HIIT and (2) you are not gaining anything from it anyway. For most people, especially beginners, a 30 minute brisk walk around the neighbourhood will be far more beneficial than all the so called "HIIT" workouts one can find on the internet. Both for health and fat loss. All this "exercise for 10 minutes, and boost your metabolism, increase your lung capacity, keep burning calories for hours" that sounds too good to be true, it is too good and is not true Noone who hates cardio and has not spent hours running, cycling etc for a long time can do HIIT, it ends up being just a low intensity low duration interval training.2 -
I do more swimming than weights.
But for me, the swimming is in many ways mental health therapy. I swim 4 miles, 5 to 6 days a week. It is very calming for me. No music. Just the water.
Jerks my head clear on business travel too.
I do need to make more time for the weight room. Evenings after work. I swim before work.

I walk around 65 miles per week, I've lost 70+ pounds and am where I want to be weight wise. I do some daily stretching and toning exercise plus an hour's yoga a week. However, I have loads of excess skin over my toned muscles which I wold love to reduce. My hubby has weights in our garage can anyone advise what lifting I should do to help reduce all this wrinkly skin particularly around my stomach and midriff?0

I love to eat more calories so that is why I add in more cardio to my routine...but I love weights as well. I have found more of a circuit type training works well for me and I enjoy it. I know if I focused on just lifting heavy I would see more result, but I also want to enjoy my exercise.0
